I don't think Sakho is, or will be, good enough for our first 11, let alone captain. But I know a lot of people will disagree with me.

I would agree he's so nervous on the ball unless he improves then I wouldn't have in the first 11 over dagger and skrtl.

Keep forgetting Sakho was PSG captain. Once he sorts out the language he could do it also.

I don't know why people think Hendo could do it. Its just a feeling I get about the fella.

    Great to have these options.

Few English classes for Sakho, teach Skrtel which way to kick the ball.

    Sorted.

Considering most agree the guy shrinks a bit because he plays alongside Gerrard why would you want him as captain? Also he seemed to struggle with the price tag/step up from Sunderland. To me he just doesn't have the un-wavering mental strength I'd want from my a captain.

    He's only 23 remember.

He struggled when he arrived for sure. You fail to say he was played in a variety of position most notably the wing. To just blame it on his mental strength is very unfair.

Rodgers has utilised him in his preferred position and he's going from strength to strength.

Rumours in the gossip rags today Chelsea are looking at a £15m bid for Firmino from Hoffenheim.

Would he be a candidate for the cheaper Llalana alternative a lot here (me included) think we should be looking at?

He played on the wing for most of his last season with Sunderland. It's not like the position was alien to him. I blame it on his mental strength because he would hide in a lot of games and wouldn't make any effort to look for the ball. He seemed to actively avoid being being near the ball to avoid the spotlight/potential mistakes.

It seems on the high side but maybe the club doesn't want more protracted sagas and is prepared to offer a few million more to get him. The other thing is he seems to want to come to us for football reasons, (remember Siggurdson) wages aren't that high and less chance of getting vultured.

Tbh his track record is very consistent, stand out player in League 1, then Championship, a season to establish himself in the PL and then a stand out season. He looks like a player who would suit us as well. It's a bit over priced but its a better track record than Henderson when we paid similar type money.

    Its all early days yet.

£20m would probably be about right for Lallana.

Looks a proper talent, good with both feet, has a workrate that makes Henderson look lazy ( the recent distance run stats for him were eyeopening), good at tracking back, good tackler, good dribbler, good passer, and has an eye for goal.

Not to mention the fact that he can play on the left or right side of CM, can play in AM, and has played in the left and right wide slots of a front three.

Would see him as a good upgrade to the first team and would see him taking the cm slot that would have been shared between Allan/Lucas.

Getting his and the rumoured Javi Martinez moves done, would see massive improvements to our midfield options.

Aren't spurs being linked with their manager? You could see one or two Southampton players head east after him.

Jesus, yeah. People think 20m is too much for him.

Costa to Chelsea. Pochettino to Spurs. No Moyes. Things to worry about, regarding retaining a top 4 finish.

He is ungainly on the ball and I think this comes across as appearing nervous to folk. He has looked the same way for France and PSG. But one thing that does stand out about him on the ball is his passing, and it puts all of our other defenders to shame in terms of accuracy.

Nearly every game he has played for Liverpool has seen him get a pass completion % of over 90%.

Harsh to judge a players mental strength on his first season at the tender age of 21.

If anything he has shown great mental strength to bounce back and become a pivotal member of the team!

Twatter about Mascherano coming back to us or Napoli.

I haven't watched any Barca games. How's he doing ?

Does he fit the profile of players that the club wants these days ?

One observation I made while watching Sakho this year is he tends to pass back to Mignolet an awfull lot which in itself causes trouble as Mignolet isn't great with his feet.

It was just an observation from watching the games and have no stats to back up

The Mirror and Echo have running that story online on and off for about a month now. Hard to know if there is any truth to it or if it is just his agent trying to ensure a better payout from Napoli.

    True.

I remember the first few games he played for us, i was watching through my fingers as he passed.

It's the most awkward technique i have ever seen in passing a ball but it seems to work.

Versatility is essential in this team, especially with our resources.

If we got those 2 or similar we'd be doing very well and addressing a big problem area of ours, it showed particularly in the first half of the season (and Rodgers seemed very aware of it on the sidelines) and would go a long way to addressing the balance we need in the team.

Yeah I see his pass completion stats posted a lot, which would be grand if the "goals conceded when he plays" stat wasn't so abysmal.

I'd be delighted to be proved wrong, mind. And I often am.:pac:

Firmino is signing a new contract last time I heard.

In fairness goals conceded is more a team stat, his passing stat, is well, his own! ;)

He just looks awkward with the ball. Terrible running style!

I hate to be the guy who brings it up, but is there anyone else out there that thought that Sturridge over performed this season and that he wont be able to duplicate this seasons performances? I think we need another striker, just in case.
Dont get me wrong, he had a fantastic season, and I am aware that he works extremely hard, and he has the ability to score some amazing goals...but for some reason I am just not fully convinced that it is down to his class rather than him being in form.

If his good form had been confined to just this season maybe I'd agree with you, but any time he has had a consistent run of games whether it be at Bolton or with us from Jan to may last year, he has scored. Thats more then a purple patch imo. That he has flagged somewhat in recent weeks is less down to him finding his actual level and more tiredness due to this being the longest run he's had in a team in his career. There's no doubt in my mind he'll manage to hit this seasons heights for us again.

Kess, I know you've been a long time admirer of his, but surely you have to admit he has been very disappointing to date?

Getting away from the transfer speculation for a bit, is anyone going to the game tomorrow? If so, which first teamers do we expect to see getting a run out? Coutinho, Lucas, Skrtle, Flanno...who else?

The only error made with Sakho was buying him on the last day of the window - had he been snapped up in June, Liverpool would have had him sat in class with a French accented English teacher and he'd have been much more able to work with the others.

  • Site Banned Posts: 4,925 ✭✭✭Agueroooo

the jury is definitely still out when it comes to Sakho;but considering its his first season, and he was injured for a time then I will reserve judgement til next season.

but if we are still talking about the same things this time next year then its safe to say he has not lived up to the hype.

I actually thought it was already signed, but even if so, that could potentially just be to ensure they get a good price for him.

I feel like his ungainliness causes more problems then just making him look awkward on the ball. I think he swings at things wildly

    Case in point

    Liverpool-v-Manchester-City.jpg

And is often off balance making him easy to go around

He was our best defender against Palace. Liverpool conceded 3 goals. Don't remember him being at fault for any of them

This is just nuts - 31 goals since he joined.

There's no way Firmino will move for just 15m and that's before his contract extension (to 2017). 25m at least I'd say, so not a cheaper alternative to Lallana at all really.
