Definitely welcome Lallana. He's more consistent than Coutinho I'd say and it'd be great to have both competing particularly as we are in the CL.

Would be a nice start to the summer to nab him

It's all about the new teeth - unless that's his daughter or something??

so richards, caulker and lallana in before the world cup - cost about 40 million

good start for us with three youngish english players (although lallana is older than what I thought he was)

Rodgers has already said we'll sing some defensive players. He must recognise the different for City and Chelsea in having real leaders in defense. He doesn't have that yet, his most experienced defenders are not reliable in a crisis.

I have no doubt that we'll sign a big-time CB.

Hmm well we spent 17m on a CB last summer. You think they will spend that again on a CB?

Liverpool would have the most English team in the premier league if that was the case. If they added Delph from Villa like I suggested it'd be definite overkill on English players

Please please please sign Ivan Rakitic this summer, with Sevilla missing out on CL football next season he should be able to be tempted away.

Lucas is after posting a bit of a cryptic msg on instagram, in work so cant post a link. He says thanks and goodbye in it and thanks for the support over 7 years.

No to Micah Richards thank you. Made of glass.

Hasn't he already agreed to sign for Real Madrid?

2 places below where we finished now? You can't justify one and not the other.

I don't care that Arsenal celebrated. They beat their rivals to 4th spot when it previously didn't look like they would.

Liverpool's turn of fortune and run since January was as good, if not better than Arsenal's and far from what was expected. Of course fans got excited and celebrated something that was unprecedented for many in their time supporting the Club.

The whole, "Ye're the worst fans/too big for your boots/haha look at ye now" thing is fucking farcical.

Smacks of jealously and pettiness. We enjoyed our season, as we are fully entitled to do. Get the fuck over it.

there's literally nothing to get over though. I don't have a problem with any of it. The original point was that liverpool shouldn't be getting stick for missing out on the league because 19 other teams did too.

but they didn't come ooh so close only to slip up.

Ontem terminei minha sétima temporada pelo Liverpool. Gostaria de agradecer aqueles que me apoiaram todos estes anos. #obrigado #tchau Yesterday I finished my 7th season with Liverpool. I want to thank the ones who supported me all this years. #thankyou #goodbye
    .

Looks like goodbye, bit sad he went from "oh no Lucas is on" to a mainstay in the engine room. Just a real pity that two bad injuries robbed him of his strength and pace. Italy calling?

Nothing cryptic, he's gone I think. He'd be perfect in Serie A.

Just checked twitter, he said the goodbye is about the season just gone and nothing else.

I'm not comfortable with the club spending big sums on English players. 20 million wont get you much these days but I think its too much for Lallana. This is a guy who 3 years ago was playing in League One.
While I do think he shouldn't be compared to someone as limited as downing, I think we should be aiming higher. I would prefer Konoplyanka over Lallana if I'm honest.

I'm also concerned by the fact his team had a good season and now he is hot property. No one was interested in him last year.

I don't think it necessarily looks like a goodbye - just seems to be celebrating the fact he has completed seven years with us

However with the way we are playing at the moment I just don't see how he fits in -seems better suited to a counter-attacking side who sit deep and just try to cover ground and break up play, so if we were playing barcelona or bayern munich or someone like that he'd probably have a cracking game but other than that I can't see him being a started especially with Lallana being a likely arrival

All we need now is England to start missing out on qualifying for tournaments and keep our players fresh!

Strange message from Lucas. On the phone so cant link but goes along the lines of "today I finish my 7th season with Liberpool. Thank you everyone who supported me through out this"#thankyou #goodbye

Would be sad to see him go. I still think hes a quality defensive midfielder.

He is also great friends with Suarez.

So as it stands, possible first team departures are:

    Lucas
    Daniel Agger
    Glen Johnson
    Reina

I would hate to see us sell Agger and I think we should hang on to lucas. Johnson needs a definite upgrade imo. Hes also on 100k a week isnt he?

    Squad departures could be:

    Aspas
    Alberto
    Jones
    Toure
    Borini
    Kelly
    Suso

I reckon we will keep hold of Borini amd possibly suso. The rest are gone imo.

Wisdom, illori and Ibe will most likely go on loan again next season.

A special good bye to superstar Moses.

I'd prefer Lallana if honest. True, 3 years ago most would not have known who Lallana is, but he has had two big seasons, this year being particularly impressive. I have no doubt Kono is a good player from what I have seen, but I think I'd prefer to go with the guy who has already impressed in the PL, rather than the guy who looks good in the Europa league and against Kyle Walker at international level :).

They are both probably in the same price bracket, but Lallana would be less of a gamble I feel.

Lucas still has a massive role to play for us imo.

Rodgers can't set up as we do away to a top team in the CL. Well he can but it could go horribly wrong!

We'll need to be more cautious and set up accordingly. The likes of Lucas will certainly be beneficial there imo.

I just don't think he has the legs for the role anymore. I was watching him in particular against Palace and he was completely static.

Ya and he has been very good anytime I seen him play for England. Should be starting IMO on his performances this season for club and country.

I'm just a bit once bitten twice shy over the downing transfer.:( He is easily for me our worst ever signing.

Nah he is shot since his injuries. He's slower than he ever was and is too often too late in his challenges. He's a great guy by all accounts and loves Liverpool but its time to move on I think unless he can accept been a lowly squad member.

I really like Lallana, I think he'd be a Perfect Fit in the Way we Play.

But if we're going to Pay 25M+ for him, why not try for Isco? He's not getting much Game-Time for Real Madrid. And who knows? Maybe he'd like to come here and Play CL with us.

Yes, if that's what it takes. We need players of the calibre of Terry, Kompany, Vidic - they don't come cheap. If you try and cut corners, it'll cost you 10 goals a season...

    Which role?

Lallana's stamina was a concern earlier on in the season. Didn't Pochetino keep subbing him after 70 minutes or something?

That's not much of a Concern, considering we'll have Coutinho as Sub, if he Runs out of Steam. That's assuming Lallana plays AM for us.

Any midfield role. His legs are gone.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 7,872 ✭✭✭Dickerty

I think Lucas may have looked better if he'd returned in his usual position, but Stevie had stolen it from him. I think that cost us with Hendo being out, they were starting with Allen and not all quite in their perfect positions.

I think Lucas' time may have passed. Not dominating enough to protect a patchy defence, and contributes very little in attack. If he was someone else's player, we wouldn't buy him!

Well it should be a concern if Liverpool are going to spend 20 million plus on a player that can only run for 80 minutes!
