Wonder if we'll get frisked now... They try and find something wrong with what you have.. One woman every year never fails to rile me..
Came in last semester everything in my hands, 2 pens, 2 pencils, eraser, pencil sharpener, calculator, ruler and student card... Asked me why I had so much, said just in case one breaks. She said 'What, all of them?!' Glowered at me and told me to move to bottom of row. Little things but they anger me before a test.. Maths test and I used everything bar spare pen.. Broke two pencils and had to resharpen them both.. Only ever see her in EGO though, but there seems to be one like her in every hall. Like a traffic warden when they're ticketing a car. Nothing is above them.

    You only brought 2 pens?!

I bring about nine (three of each colour) and I type the majority of every paper... :P

I always get extremely paranoid that I'll need to write something and none of my pens will work... :o

Oh that's me. I bring about seventy pens into the exam! :pac::p
    Just in case!!:pac:

If I get into the exam and neither of my pretested pens work then I see it as fate... I am clearly not mean do this exam...

For anyone who hasn't seen this: I presume the drop off area is the SU? Wonder how much time you will have to allow yourself to make sure you get to the exam a half an hour before?

    *Exam Notice.
Due to the decision to not allow bags, books, coats, phones etc into the exam halls., the Students Union would like to help in the following way but under certain conditions:
    • You will present yourself to the exam centre on time with exam material (pens, pencils calculator, water)
    • If you have baggage, mobile phones, coats, jackets or notes we will operate a left luggage system to coincide with the exam week campaign.
    • This will be a ticketed system where you will sign in your merchandise and because of the quantities of said merchandise we request that you collect it straight after your exam as to accommodate all students.
    • To ensure security and safety of your goods you will be asked to sign them in and out and as a singular unit (no bits and bobs)
This system will operate from Tue 06/05/2014 to
Mon 19/05/2014 (including Saturday exams) 8:15am to 6pm Daily.
You can also grab some of the exam freebies each day and a cup of tea and coffee for the walk to the exam center.
The drop off site will not be a last minute study area, get the study done be confident in it, hand in your left luggage and rock it in the exam!
We feel that this is a helpful alternative to the recent decision and that you use it to your benefit. The operations of this will be run by Paddy Rockett in conjunction with the exam campaign.
We wish you all the best in your exams.
(Please like and Share to get this around to as many students as possible over the next few days)
It may not be Ideal but at least it keeps your luggage safe, your mind on the exams and you ready to do well.
    Paddy

good to see during my 5 years here that UL still focus on the major issues. Feck that some rooms dont have lighting or wireless connectivity, its the bags you werent allowed to go near during exams thats the problem

Cant even bring in your car keys into an exam what a joke. I'll leave them in my car to be safe

This is probably a realllyyy stupid question but we're allowed dictionaries in my German exam, I assume I'm not going to be stopped going into the hall with it?

Since all of this talk of them being strict this year, I don't wanna have my dictionary taken off me, especially when I'm going to really need it :/

I always get one bitch that picks my dictionary up and sits reading it for ages just when I need it!

You won't be stopped with the dictionary, if their allowed for the exam. The invigilator may check them for other notes.

Key the keys in your pocket. Nobody is going to check.

Apparently items can be left outside halls at your own risk (as it always has been), according to comments on the latest FB status by the SU

Walking through the Schuman and there was just abandoned bags every where in the lobby with no one near by, a robber would have had a field day.

Presumably the University feels the need to do this due to concerns about cheating, which is really sad. Fiar play to the SU for trying to offer a solution.

Like the unattended laptops in the library, this **** is a goldmine for any thieves who happen to cop on to it.

Its even better than the unattended laptops, people would give an odd look and might remember someone walking around with a laptop under their arm.

Nobody would look twice at someone with a bag and you have a good 25-20 at minimum before the rightful owner knows its gone

That's pretty much it when the senior invigilators explained it to us. Cheaters are getting more and more inventive/elaborate/etc and so SAA take stricter and stricter measures to try and combat it. As long as there are a**holes out there willing to subvert the rules to their own advantage, this will happen and it makes life harder for the honest students.

Yup! I was repeating it this year. Safe to say I'll be repeating it again in August. 4th time lucky?

No one I've spoken to was happy with Science Maths 2, so believe in the bell curve guys!

Ah hopefully! I need at least a C2 in that and the other module I'm doing, or a c3 in maths if I get a b3 or higher in the other module I'm repeating. Devestated yesterday though, so I've kinda accepted I'll be repeating it in August.

I'll definitely be repeating it anyway. I didn't like the way that if there was a question with 9 parts for example, if you didn't get the first 3 to a satisfactory standard then he won't even look at the next 6 :(

I think he means that UL are making a big deal about the whole bag saga when it's a minor thing and they should have really just left things the way they were and let people risk their belongings at their own risk instead of focusing on the big issues of the Uni like lighting and connectivity.

He's not comparing or whatever them. He's saying it's 'great' UL is focusing on the 'big' issue.

Academic standards are a big issues for a university, more so than wifi, students only have the cheaters to blame.

Quite literally nothing. I just find it funny that after 5 years some things that desperately needed addressing when I was in first year have had nothing done about them yet the bags, which I still don't see how people were cheating with considering they were left at the back of the room/outside the exam hall, should merit such attention

Is there a general cheating problem in UL?

SO how do these cheaters manage to get to the back of the room like a ninja to get to their bags? whats this new rule going to achieve?

Dont see how these rules will help one bit.

Its more they are seen to be doing something, quite what that something actually achieves however

I've never experienced lighting as being an issue but ulwireless is awful alright.
While I can appreciate the huge increase in the number of smartphones, tablets and laptops on campus, that has been ramping up over years and quite what ITD have been doing, bar sitting on their hands, is beyond me.

I can't speak to the exact thinking behind the ban but there are areas (thinking of the Schumann exam venues and maybe outside the Sports Hall also but I haven't been to an exam in there since it was rebuilt) where leaving bags outside is a safety issue. There's obviously also the thievery issue as I've seen signs up about it around exam time previously.

Maybe an invigilator can clarify about inside exam venues and whether that needed policing or what, exactly.

Honestly, unless they start actually frisking people I won't worry.

Had my phone, keys etc in my pockets yesterday.

Turned the phone off. Where else was I going to leave it.
