I think you could quite easily argue that Lazio, Valencia and Barcelona were all a step above City at the time, City having achieved nothing in the modern era at the time.

Not a chance Citys intent was obvious at that stage only case would be Yaya and he had already fallen out of favour at Barca by then

Who cares if the teams had Champions League or potential or whether it wasn't a step down.
The point was business gets done in World Cup transfer windows, nothing else.
As usual somebody chimes in with a dumb comment that has nothing to do with the original point.

There's no argument that in terms of prestige Man City could match any of the three clubs mentioned. They also didn't have Champions League.

What they had was money to spend and an obviously strong desire to get into the Champions League.

I'm failing to see how anyone can argue that United this summer will have any less allure than City did that summer, it's nonsense.

You lads are underestimating the huge prestige and the attraction of playing for a club like Man Utd. You also seem to be underestimating the attraction of big wages.

Are you predicting that Utd won't spend a significant amount of money this summer?

Of course not. Between the two windows, we've already spent a significant amount of money. 65m, not including wages.

There's a difference between spending money and spending money well; I have no doubt we'll bring in a player or two. The problem could come in whether or not they will address the problems we need, cause so far we've spent 65m and not fixed anything; if Moyes and a lot of fans are to be believed, we've spent 65m, promoted Januzaj and somehow naturally dropped back from champions to 7th.

Without the comma it has the opposite meaning of what you presumably meant to say.

Not a chance City's intent was obvious. = No one knew what City's intent was.

Not a chance, City's intent was obvious??? = Everyone knew what City's intent was.

A comma changes the meaning of the sentence completely.

Ah English was never my strong point, Thanks for the lesson folks.

I'm sure I'd find that hilarious if I had any idea about Irish-based sports :D:p:pac:

I thought Kroos was a shoe in?

    You thought very very wrong.

    Why?

Because of the dialogue in here. It seemed like it was going to happen, if this thread was to be believed.

    Why?

Cause if you hope for something hard enough, it's sure to come true :P

So you take what random, anonymous nobodies on a forum say as gospel?
More fool you if that's the case.

Messi is on our radar now

No, perhaps I should rephrase, as there is confusion.

Thread regulars, many of you appeared to see Kroos as a dead cert for United, but it would appear that is now unlikely to happen. What are your feelings on this?

    More clear?

There was no confusion on my part, just humoring your sarcasm...

Few have stated they thought he was a dead cert. There was interest from us, and most have expressed they'd love him at the club, but with any deal, until it's officially announced on the club's site, you're better off presuming nothing is a "dead cert".

    You're a touch paranoid. Relax.

I think uniteds rebuilding programme will be very interesting. That's all.

Nope. You either (a) Genuinely thought he was a shoe-in from what some posters here were saying.
    Or
    (b) Were being sarcastic and mocking.

Since you cleared up it wasn't (a)...

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 2,437 ✭✭✭redbaron_99

Realistically the only way kroos is leaving Munich is if he falls out with pep. You'd be mad to leave that club now.

Rooney plays his position and Valencia is on the right, so Messi would only end up having to play out on the left and he isn't strong enough defensively for that.

    False dichotomy. Look it up.

I'm not looking for a fight, so I'm not responding to you anymore.

Doesn't take a genius to work out your angle. I'm not looking for a "fight" either, there really was only 2 ways your post could have been taken, yes I said taken, look it up ;)

What we need is a good nobody signing...like Ronaldo when he signed, he was pretty much a nobody , do you remember the laugh every other club was having with him...'oh that pansy' ' jesus would you look at him falling over again' 'them stepovers will never work the ejet'.......

    2 seasons later...

    'Ohhhhhh ****'

Ok, I may have been mildly wumming, just a little. But I wasn't trying to piss people off. And I am interested in peoples reaction to this news. Who are your alternatives now, in your opinion? I am serious when I say I am interested. I think united this summer will be very interesting, so much will be going on. Great for a neutral.
