Jamie Jackson with the first of the articles saying United don't think Kroos is likely and that they fear getting the players they want will be difficult - due to the transfer climate and no cl.

Going to be a long fecking summer.

It is going to be painful to be honest, once the season ends Im not going on twitter or reading any sports pages until the new season starts. It really is going to be drivel everywhere and we will end up having signed Coentrao and Carvalho come deadline day. Its so predictable!

#mufc briefing journos: "..there is a recognition that buying any elite class player is particularly tough due to the current market place"

That's the tweet going around about our lowered expectations.

Bit of a joke really. Club spend most of the season talking big about the summer and building up a "Just you wait...." frenzy among the fans and now, the line seems to be "Eh, we dunno...". We'll still lock in a half dozen sponsors though.

    Resus is on 35k
    Young is on 120k.

It says a lot. Although Young in fairness has not been as poor as some this season.

Some of our players wages are ridiculous and mere embarresing.

But that is the case in England in general - it isn't a United issue.

Should Reus move to England this summer, he'll be on more than Young as a result.

Footballers get paid more in england, it is just the way it is.

It's criminal the amount of money footballers (especially those underperforming) make. I would love to know what Athletico are paying some of their players, for example.

That's not an actual quote. That's what Jackson has written in his piece about the club you know. They're quoting Jackson there, not United.

    EDIT:
While United have not given up completely on Kroos and are prepared to keep all options open regarding the Germany international, there is a recognition that buying any elite class player is particularly tough due to the current market place. Even if Kroos were minded to leave Bayern, United would face stiff competition from a host of other top European clubs for his signature

Exactly. It's Jamie Jackson speculating (as he has a fondness for doing) based on a quote from Krooses' agent. Of course it's going to be difficult to sign elite players, it always is.

I'm not arsed typing big essays but ideally what I'd like to see in the summer would be two FB's, a CB, a CM, & a winger. We are in desperate need to sort out our defense and I'm sure Moyes will make that his priority.

The likes of Reus & Kroos is so hard to imagine coming here but boy, if it happened I'd be the happiest man in Ireland.

As it stands, I believe our best team for next season is along the lines of:

    GK: De Gea
    RB: Rafael
    CB: Evans/Smalling
    CB: Jones
    LB: Buttner
    LW: Kagawa
    CM: Fellani
    CAM: Rooney
    CM: Mata
    RW: Welbeck/Januzaj
    ST: Van Persie

Never been a fan of Carrick, would start Fletch ahead of him. As for RVP, if he gets fully fit and back to form he's easily one of our best players.

United could have briefed Journos saying.
"We're doing all we can to sign top players this season, granted it will be more difficult without the allure of CL football, but we are confident of getting our men"
Or waffle to that extent, and the Jamie Jackson quote would be equally as applicable. But wait till you see the spin this quote gets. I guarantee you before the day is out we will get fans on twitter and other social media with

"MOYES TELLS JOURNO HE KNOWS WE WONT SIGN ANYONE THIS SUMMER" or ilk to that effect.

Its not just United issue, but it does underline the flaw and makes you wonder can we tempt better players for only double the wages they are on, as well as still saving money from English players wages.

    A Middle ground basically.

Its not that simplistic, but its just a thought.

    My 'outs' would be:

    Lindegaard
    Evra
    Ferdinand
    Vidic
    Anderson
    Giggs
    Nani
    Kagawa
    Hernandez

I find it mind boggling to believe than any list of outs would include genuinely talented players and not the likes of Cleverley, Young & Valencia.

Yeah but without Valencia's 2 goals and 2 assists were would we be? BOTTOM THAT'S WHERE! (Or top, who knows? Thte fact is he's ****e)

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,288 ✭✭✭Oregano_State

I very seriously doubt Valencia is going anywhere, and I don't think he should either. He has his limitations, but is solid at what he can do. A lot of the problems with him come from our midfield not being dominant and being able to deliver the ball to him in good positions. His run down the wing and cross for Evra's goal on Wednesday night were very good, for example.

I'd have no problem letting Young go but if we lose Nani I don't think he should be sold.

If Kagawa leaves I might cry.

I think RVP has to go.

I doubt that is Mitch's list of who he wants out. The reality is we are more likely to see Kagawa, Hernandez and Nani leave than Cleverley, young or Valencia which is frightening.

    Lets see,

    - No champions league
    - The complication and distraction of the World Cup
    - Our inability to close deals quickly and efficiently

Signing world class players is difficult even under the best circumstances. This Summer has the potential to go very wrong. If the club get it wrong again then we are fcuked next year.

There is no reason not to have our deals 90% in place before the window opens. If the majority of our deals are not concluded in the very early stages of the window I think we could be in big trouble.

Let's just hope to Christ the club have their arse in gear.

The summer hasn't even started and already our threads are going into meltdown.

No amount of funny gifs can save us now. Gentlemen, it's been an honour (sort of).

To be fair to Valencia. He has regained a lot of his old form in recent games. Particularly games in the CL. I for one would actually reconsider letting him go if he keeps it up. It seems a lot of the ire directed towards him (Mostly on the match threads tbf) Is people who see Welbeck and Valencia on the teamsheet and instantly saw

"Sub em off bring on X and Y"

I've been as big a critic of Welbeck and Valencia in the past but imo they have genuinely been two of our better players recently.

A year of failing to meet low expectations, two transfer windows we struggled/failed to address the major issues....yeah, i am sure the summer will see magical changes occur....

If that turns out to be the case then Moyes deserves to be smacked like a ****ing child. It makes me furious just thinking this might happen. It simply cannot be allowed to happen.

I have a genuine concern that if United go out and splooge £200m this summer and still, somehow, fail to qualify for the CL next year, it could be the beginning of the end for the club.

I mean, I don't really think anything that bad will happen, but the thought of it would still put the fright up you. In the same way as when your girlfriend goes for a 30 minute run when it's dark out and and doesn't come for over an hour. Then you realise she was in her running gear and didn't have a bag with her so she's hardly stopped at the shops, so you get irrationally concerned for a minute until you ring her and it turns out she's just stopped at her sister's for a chat and you feel silly because you had completely forgotten that you only live around the corner from her sister now and... that analogy seems to have gotten away from me somehow.

What 'vibes'? You seem to be embracing all the negative talk and ignoring the positives. There have been plenty of indications that Utd are confident on finally addressing the long standing midfield problems that have plagued the club for years.

This talk of the upcoming transfer window is all too familiar. Current climate, no value in the market, players not available, and so on. Heard it all before. How many transfer windows have been wasted at this stage. Last summer was wasted chasing the likes of Fabregas, when other midfielders were available, and at good value.
Gustavo (15-20m), strootman (16.5m) Cabeye, matic. We never went near them. It's so frustrating.

And to think of the midfielders that have been on the move over the last four years or so. Turan, Toure, Dembele, Hazard, Vidal, Pogba... the list goes on...

Magical changes? What are you talking about. Man Utd have a lot of money and they seem to be determined to spend it. Last year the new man fcuked up and it is very hard to believe he will fcuk up for a second summer in a row. It seems way more likely Utd will spend this summer than not. What's magical about that?

It was the same talk last summer too....
