Yes the goalkeeper was all over the shop. And yes, he would have easily caught it had he been on his line.

Its not that he was off his line, its that he completely lost his bearings trying to run back. He was like a headless chicken and had no clue where the ball was.

    Slight hint of sarcasm.

Very good goal and love to see strikers attempt them - I for one shouted it on it's way yesterday.

But not the best ever, not Rooney's best (City & Newcastles superior) and maybe not even the best goal yesterday - the technique Tetty showed for his goal, it's speed and trajectory were unreal.

We have to accept the hyperbole that comes with Rooney and the English media. It's gotten so bad in the last 12 months that everyone thinks he's a N.10. He's not - as was seen yesterday he is an up top striker and one can does a very good job there. Not bad when you already have two very decent 10's in Mata and Kagawa.

For those who enjoy a good pun.....

Antonio Valencia was another walking wounded member of United's victorious XI.

"Antonio has a real bad eye which is closed over," Moyes said. "It is not quite settled down yet so we will need to keep an eye on it, if you'll pardon the pun!"

Hey, if you want to salivate over it don't let me stop you.

Yea cause my 1st post on the goal which calls you out in your bull**** is salivating on it..

you'll notice i've not said anything regarding the quality of the goal but that's okay you just keep throwing in random assumptions to add with your ridiculous hyperbole.

Contrary to what you have stated he doesn't try 50 yard volleys week in week out...synopsis in short....you're full of ****.

But hey don't let me stop you making a tit if yourself.

    Yeah, because of Rooney's brilliance.

Dont get involved, he tried to defuse the situation which is actually pretty sound/uncommon for him (no offense intended)

Great shot, shiit keeping, great goal

He needs to work on his puns to be honest.

Antonio has a real bad eye which is closed over, were trying to patch him up as best we can.

According to Yorkie and Jamie, it's an incredible gift to even be able to kick the ball that far; something not many players can do. Apparently.

Missed the match yesterday lads (christening) - seen the goals but in general how did we get on? - what kind of game had Mata, Fellaini & Kagawa?

Fellaini was good, got around, made loads of tackles and interceptions.

Mata/Kagawa had good games, lots of accurate passing and creativity.

We counter attacked nicely and coped with West Ham's constant aerial bombardment very well.

De Gea didn't really have any saves to make

We had good possession and weren't totally reliant on crosses again.

I'm willing to give him the benefit of the doubt on this one. Any more bads puns are on him though and eye won't hesitate on calling for him to be sacked if he doesn't at least show signs of improvement.

Liverpool supporter here - fantastic goal by Rooney - lots try but not many score from that kind of distance.
Beckham, Alonso... even Suarez scored from some distance v Norwich this year.
Beckham's will always be the original but Rooney's was a spectacular goal too.

What team would you go with vs City?

    DDG
    Rafael--Jones--Vidic--Evra
    Carrick--Fellaini
    Valencia--Mata--Welbeck
    Rooney

Thanks lad, good to hear it was a good day all round - city now will be an extraordinary challenge but its good preparation for the Bayern games at least.

Could be spot on with that line up Mitch,Welbeck and Valencia will be needed to track back and help out when we don't have the ball.

Buttner for Evra and if he could manage another game so quick, I'd have Fletcher alongside Carrick and Fellaini with Kagawa coming in and Valencia and Welbeck dropping out.

Buttner for Evra and Kagawa for Valencia.

I can see the argument for both changes, but I don't think either will be the case.

Moyes will go with the more trusted options, Valencia mainly to combat the City full back threat (however ineffective that plan might be) and Evra cause he is likely to be more trusted than Buttner.

That wasn't that long before Beckhams goal. Nayim's goal was also lot closer to the goal but was a lot more important.

Pat Jennings 1967 Charity Shield ;) Although its by a goalkeeper and out of his hands, it's still an awesome achievement.

I watching English football since the 70s
I can't remember any goals from that distance pre Beckham - the balls were too heavy I'd imagine

as per my above post, I can see the arguments - but I would be shocked if Fletcher starts after doing 90 yesterday - don't think he would have it in him.

Also, I don't think the team would be at all set up correctly to have that 3 man midfield, then have Mata and Kagawa off Rooney - the City full backs would have a field day and wed be congested through the middle.

    Sorry, shouldn't have been condescending.

Steve Orizovic 1996 was another one.

    Go to 4.15

Apart from the major superstar signings we all want i would be happy with a bid for Vertonghen this summer. Good player who can cover left back. Can also step into midfield with the ball too.

Lallana is also the type of player I would have if we sold the likes of either Ashley Young, Valencia, or Kagawa. Otherwise its hard to justify buying him.

Other than those two I could imagine a bid for Coleman and maybe Shaw which would be fantastic but expensive and difficult to get.

I can only tolerate David Moyes keeping his job if he does major surgery on the squad this Summer. Otherwise it'll be the same story next year.

I wonder would Uniteds best ever 11 of the modern era still not be as good as the bayern team we will face in April, I guess to match them we would have to play a central 3,This is the team Id go with, what ye reckon would this take the current bayern team?

    Schmeichcel

    Neville
    Stam
    Vidic
    Irwin---

    Scholes
    Keane
    Robson

    Ronaldo
    VanNistelrooy
    Giggs--
