We're going to be overpaying for everyone this summer. I'd just get used to it now and try not to think of how much money we're paying for players we need.

As for Rooney's goal, there was an element of luck about it; the vast majority of "Goals of the season" have luck involved. The goalkeeper did muck himself up and lose the ball, and Rooney has tried that shot a few times this season.

But yesterday he nailed his end spot on, with the perfect power and placement, and bad goalkeeping shouldn't take away from the fact it was a phenomenal goal.

Plus the claim Toni Kroos is keen to move to United even with no Champions League.
I will be in heaven if Kroos does move...

    Goal of the season.

Arguably was only the third best goal of the day! Tettey and Toure's were sensational. Rooney's strike was incredible but the keeper did make a complete hames of it.

Arguably it was goal of the season.

I love the way people always have to try sh*t on anything good.
It was the same after his goal against City "It was a fluke, he shinned it"

That goal yesterday was a spectacular hit. The height and bend on it was what tied the keeper in knots and would have done the same to a lot of keepers in that position. I don't think people realise how hard it is to run backwards and eventually forwards looking at something hurtling out of the sky and over your head.

Awaits the "could do that in me sleep" comment.

Its a reaction to the hyperbole over such goals.

Rooney's goal yesterday was a great strike, not just that but his awareness in knowing it was on.

But then you see the likes of Steve Bruce, literally having a **** in the middle of a press conference over the goal, and that's what encourages the negativity, which for the most part, isn't criticising the goal, but dismissing the comparison to other such goals.

Anyway, judging goals is subjective, so doesn't really matter a huge deal. In my opinion, as good as it was, I don't think it was as good as his strike against Newcastle five or six years ago, though obviously others will differ

Carvalho and Kroos, it's a bit early in the year for the papers to start this shít

Not really much else they can talk about United wise though. Can't talk of any title hopes cause there is none, can't talk about pressure on Moyes after two wins, so transfers are about all they can "realistically" speculate on.

It still shouldn't stop people from being able to admit it was a spectacular goal. The match thread was full of people sayin how awful the keeper was and you have someone come in here and say it wasn't even a good goal.

There will always be hyperbole but it goes just as far in the other direction with people trying to disagree with the popular opinion to the point of delusion.

Missed the match yesterday lads (christening) - seen the goals but in general how did we get on? - what kind of game had Mata, Fellaini & Kagawa?

    Entirely agree.

Didn't follow the match thread, so didn't realise what others were saying.

    Irrespective, great goal.

ah ya sure Rooney's goal was grand like, see them every week.
Just volley it in from 50 plus yards. Simple.

MOTD raving about Rooney's goal! Why??? It was a goalkeeping error.

If the keeper took a few steps back instead of running round in a circle disorientating himself then he would have caught it with ease.

Not a great goal, not even a good goal, just a goalkeeping error.
Ball bounces twice, Rooney nudges his marker and speculatively hits the ball from 54 yards, ball bounces a couple of yards before the line and goes in.

The keeper runs in a circle and disorientates himself otherwise he could have just taken a few steps back and caught the ball.

Any keeper should have saved that. This keeper didn't. It's a goalkeeper error.
A lovely shot... that should have been saved by any other keeper.

A goalkeeping error, not a good goal IMO.

Thing is, Rooney does try that every week, he frequently shoots first time trying to chip the keeper. Keep trying something enough its bound to come off eventually.

Buttner shoots every chance he gets too, so if one cracks in to the top corner I presume you'll be like eh it's just lucky guys he tries it every week it was bound to come off.

Ah Lampard shoots all the time it was bound to come off.

A number of outlets running with those stories alright. Hopefully we get our rumoured, and needed, 4/5 signings done before the WC and then announce that we've concluded our transfer business.

Least we'd avoid price hikes because of the WC and stupid paper talk for July and August. Would be a sign that Ed and Moyes learned something from last summer.

I never said it was lucky.

Haven't seen anything of Carvalho, but if the deal is indeed done, I hope its a sign of things to come.

There are also people in the middle who make reasonable points. For example I said it was an incredible strike by Rooney but the keeper made a hames of it. The two are not mutually exclusive. The guy who said it wasn't even a good goal in this case totally deserves the way overused label "deluded".

It was an absolute peach of a goal, but then comes out the comparisons and mickey waving with other cracking goals (Suarez, Beckham, Alonso, etc etc) which I just don't get.

I'm sure when each player (moments before they hit each ball) thought 'I'm going to beat <insert previous similar goal/player here> .not!

Each goal should be taken for what they are....marvellous.

I don't know why people struggle with this concept, instead they just get uppity because you didn't immediately proclaim it the best goal ever.

It was a fantastic strike that very few players could replicate, but Rooney does attempt it frequently and the goal keeper does indeed make a complete hash of it.

Ah here, not even a good goal?? Will you stop, it was absolutely superb.

Yes the goalkeeper was all over the shop. And yes, he would have easily caught it had he been on his line. But the fact is, he wasn't on the line which is why Rooney took the shot. He wouldn't have done so had the keeper been on the line.

He looked up, saw him off the line and showed a great bit of skill and technique. Had Kris Commons scored that, you'd have gone into spasms!!

    Who has done this?

Great goals come from doing the unexpected and catching people out, it was amazing awareness and technique end of story...
