Jones did very well man marking Ronaldo last year. He could be used in a similar role on Robben to help Buttner out or on Ribery.

Robben is nowhere near the sort of quality where I would do anything like that, certainly not relative to the rest of his teammates.

I hope Moyes takes this opportunity to play Mata or Kagawa in their favoured roles and push Rooney up. Probably won't happen though.

What is with this all encompassing fear of Bayern Munich? Has nobody ever beaten them? Should we all just stop playing the competition and give them the trophy?

Sure United will struggle and they will struggle against any of the other seven, but come on.

Yes, acknowledging how superior they are to us is the same as saying we should just give up and hand them the title

Anything can happen in football. We'll play them. But it's realism time; Bayern are easily the best team on the planet right now, whereas we're having massive problems.

Weirdly, I think if this announcement had come without the "benefit" of the moral boost after the Greeks, I think people might have a bit more of a realistic outlook at how bad this is going to be for United....

Meh, after we lose to West Ham this weekend the delusion will quickly evaporate and after City beat us by 4 or 5 we'll be back where we were prior to wednesday talking sense.

    I'd go:

    Lindegaard

    Smalling-Ferdinand-Vidic-Buttner

    Valencia-Carrick-Cleverley-Young

    Welbeck-Hernandez

    I'd go

    Lindegard De Gea
Raf Smalling Jones Vida Wio Evans
    Fellaini Carrick Fletch

Should give us an even money chance of keeping a clean sheet!

We've got pumped this year by Chelsea, City and Liverpool and beaten at home by Everton, Newcastle and West Brom. Considering Bayern are light years ahead of the first three, we ****ing should be terrified of them.
Obviously Bayern are a much better team but unless you only started watching football yesterday you should know that this doesn't automatically equate to a hiding. Liverpool lost to Bolton, Olympiakos, Birmingham (twice!), Middlesboro, Burnley, Southampton, Newcastle and Palace the season they won the Champions League. Yes, I agree that Bayern are more than likely going to win this tie but I don't think it's going to be the annihilation you predict.

I'm confident enough we should do ok against West Ham. We tend to do grand against bottom half teams.

Silver lining, with RVP out, we can push Rooney forward and actually play Mata in his proper position.

lol joke, start Welbeck and leave Mata out wide.

Nice and fresh for the World Cup so. What's odds is he to be top scorer? Should have an advantage on some of the others who will have cone off a long hard season. He's hardly played all year.

    RVP out, dear

    Valencia Carrick Jones Welbeck
    Kagawa
    Rooney

We'll definitely score against Bayern with that team, it's a matter of out scoring them though which is very unlikely to say the least.

I hope not, i've actually a real worry at the moment that we'll string a few half decent results together and that coupled with Moyes getting a pass for Bayern thrashing us as it's to be expected, keeps him in the job another season.

I'd rather lose a few more meaningless ones (not so much the likes of city though as **** getting beat in those sort of games) like this weekend and be sure to rid ourselves of the clueless one.

There'll be at least 6 clear goals in this, take it to the bank.

This has to be a chance for Kagawa, he needs to grasp at this in the rest of the league games and the games against Munich

Utd have to be favourites against Bayern eh?

Shame to lose RVP for the Bayern games. Best finisher we have by a country mile, he could have made all the difference if we kept things tight.

I think we were better off getting Bayern. Its a test for Moyes to see if he is tactically able to compete with the best in Europe and it also will give a clear indication as to what players are worth keeping.

0-0 would be a very good result at home. The pressure will be on Bayern then not to conceed . I hope he keeps it tight at OT and hopes to nick an away goal or two.

Stick a fork in Kagawa, he's done.

I can almost guarantee that Moyes will bring in Wellbeck, Young or Hernandez before Kagawa, with Wellbeck the most likely.

    Its a crying shame.

After Moyes publicly said Kagawa would feature in the Olympiakos match and he didn't, I'm 100% convinced he's as good as gone

Moyes can;t compete tactically against the likes of Stoke nevermind against Munich.

We already know the players who are worth keeping. Basing on what players do over two games where we are going to be battered makes no sense.

It would be great if he did a run of games,it would be a chance to get himself in the shop window and get a move away in the summer for the good of his career, its a pity it hasn't worked out for him at Utd.

He played well against Swansea, was the only one creating chances in the league cup second leg against Sunderland and then wasn't seen till the first leg against Olympiacos played a peach of a pass getting Smalling in to set up RVP for that chance,

What happens after?? A cameo appearance against WBA and life back on the bench while the team struggle to create chances.

I think we are saying the same thing. He'll put Rooney up top, Mata behind, and then Valencia and Wellbeck the wide slots.

Yep. Even if does get back to full fitness, he won't risk getting injured playing in meaningless Premier League games when his final World Cup is a few a couple of months away.

Expect a few "He's a week or two away from full fitness" statements from Moyes in the future.
