Conventional wisdom would say that we got the toughest draw, but lets face it, there are no weak teams left in the competition (including us). We will probably go out to Bayern but it certainly won't be 10-0 like some people are saying. I think the best method is sit deep and hit on the counter. It might sound crazy but Fellaini up top to act as a target man might be our best method. Midfield is by far our weakest area so why not bypass it completely.

No they are not, speaking to a Spanish who's a big Real supporter just now and he recons Bayern could surpass the 7-0 Agg they did over Barca last year ... no one except some of us optimistic United supporters are expecting anything more then a mauling.

not a chance it will be a mauling imo.... Bayern last year were unstoppable, went from back to front in seconds... this team is like the pep team at barca all possession pass pass pass pass pass very boring to watch even some of the Bayern directors were saying they hope pep doesn't turn Bayern into a barca style team, passing for the sake of it.

My post read, any team who has beaten the holders has gone on to win the Cup,not likely we are going to do it though.

Benfica beat Liverpool in 2006 and didn't manage to win it.

    Tip: Bayern can't handle Shinji.

    No Shinji, no hope.

This result if embarrassing will be the end of Moyes

Can't see it any other way. United have been toxic this season. Think we'll see the tie over after the first leg.

Doesn't matter to us. Could matter to Moyes if there's a clause in his contract where a poor league showing can see him sacked.

Also while the league position won't matter to fans, a drubbing at the hands of the cross-town rivals will. I think most fans won't accept a bad loss to City, even if the excuse is we're prepping for the CL.

That said, I feel it's, once again, a moving of the goalposts. "A loss to Pool will see him gone. Failing to get past the Greeks will see him gone, oh he did that, now he has to the City game....oh, but we'll give him the Bayern matches...oh we lost, well they are Bayern, he couldn't be expected to beat them". A new day, a new set of criteria for what is acceptable from the team and the manager.
I think he will see out the season now at the very least whatever happens in the City match - the second leg will run us up to 8/9 April, only 5 PL games left after so any new manager would make no difference anyway.

Can see it being a 0-3 at home and we play little better over there and only get beat 2-1.

5-1 on agg to Bayern for me

Would make a huge difference to get a manager in before the end of the season, especially it being world cup year.

Not that its going to happen unfortunately.

I have a horrible feeling Moyes may be at Utd beyond this season and that makes me feel sick.

This game might actually suit Moyes better... No pressure. After the way United have performed this season, expectations have never been so low.

This means, he can set up like he'd do if it was Everton, try and keep it really tight with banks of 4 or 5 and nobody will expect any different, such is the class of this Bayern side. Crowd won't get on the teams back etc, and if United come away from the first leg keeping Bayern scoreless, it'll then be a confidence booster for sure.

While I expect Bayern to be too strong, stranger things have happened.

Arsenal gave Bayern a run for their money this year, and a real fright last year. So man utd could do the same.....

Bayern were never in real danger of losing the tie against Arsenal. They could have easily upped their game if they needed to.

If we knock bayern out which is possible, Liverpool supporters will really ramp up the paranoia.

I think we can win, In fact we don't even need to beat them to go through lol.

no they wont, they will start spouting some **** like oh all you united fans wanted him gone a few weeks ago blah blah blah.

not trying to target all Liverpool fans just some people i know, one lad i know in particular who talks more about us than Liverpool, as one of my friends said before you're not a Liverpool fan more a Manchester united hater

Nasty draw but tbh I would have has us as underdogs for every team left in it. Be interesting to see how far behind the best we have fallen as Bayern are the best in my mind no doubt

Delighted we're at home first and on the Tuesday, why? Well I'm flying to Portugal on the 8th so would have missed the 2nd leg as in the air and now with the home leg first I'll be at Old Trafford and not having to sell my tickets!

We'll need a hell of a lot of luck to go through and probably a red card in our favor. Revenge for 2010, we should have won that tie

Well 2 weeks ago Moyes said we'd be seeing alot more of Shinji for the rest of the season. Before the CL match midweek he said Shinji would def play some part of the game.

So with that in mind I fully expect him to play. <- Sarcasm of the highest order.

Moyes doesn't like players that know how to play football. He doesn't know what to do with them.

Shinji why you no cross football? Shinji why you no left winger?

No it wasn't, one more goal for City and they topped the group. It doesn't give me much hope anyway, City are a far better team with a manager who understands tactics. I expect Moyes to park the bus and hit them on the counter, De Gea will have to put in two huge performances.

Oh that's right, I always forget about that with the group stages... I somehow had it in my head they couldn't be topped.
Teams level on points are separated by:
    1) The results of games between the teams in the tie (if tied, by goal difference and then by away goals counting double).
    2) Goal difference in all group games.
    3) Highest number of goals scored in all games.
    4) Highest Uefa ranking over the previous five seasons.

Yeah, like you said, it's pretty irrelevant anyway.

On form right now.. Probably. But I wouldn't be so confident as to make it an out right sweeping statement. Switch managers and its definitely United imo.

For me, United should have just as much a chance of getting through as Arsenal did.

Nah... there will be the "got beaten by the best team in the world" excusee to keep him in his seat.
Now if Van Persie hadnt scored 3 this week.....

Balls they are, same as Liverpool. Utd are playing way below their abilities but their potential is higher.
They most likely won't hit their best against Bayern but if they do they are a better team than Arsenal.

Great draw. Looking forward to what's after becoming a CL classic at this stage.

I wouldn't mind seeing Kagawa in a midfield 3 with Carrick and Fletcher, we will need his movement and passing to relieve pressure. Rooney playing off the right.

Tough draw. Get the rosary beads out, especially for the away tie. I wonder will Kag or Fellaini get a look in for either game.
