I'd be happy to see Solskjaer celebrating on Saturday evening.

No team has ever retained the CL. And the team to defeat the previous CL winners has always gone on to win the CL.

Another record for Moyes to break.

Alot of Hyperbole....I don't think we'll get hockeyed, it's extremely unlikely we'll get through and are massive under dogs but I reckon we'll put up a half decent performance and go out by the odd goal or something.

We have been better in Europe and I think alot of that is we retain the respect around Europe that has been lost in the league. Bayern will probably show us more respect at OT than West Brom, for example, did, that's just the way things have gone.

Look at it this way, the only hope for the season is to win the CL and that is a massive outside bet, but if we are going to win the thing we'd have to beat Bayern at some point. And as someone above said, we may as well play the best team around now as we more than likely won't be playing them next season.

So you think we'll beat Bayern then? :)

There's just way too much quality in that team, 23 wins 0 losses this season in the league.

The only way they look vulnerable is from counter attacks, Welbeck and Valencia on the wings again, a midfield 3, and hope for the best.

    Didn't city beat them 3-2?

It was a nothing game for Bayern, they'd already won the group at that stage.

One result that does give me a little glimpse of hope is their 1-1 away draw to Bayer this season, a team we comprehensively dismantled.

Though they set up very differently against Bayern than than they did against us.

Anything's possible on any give day in a game of football. For me it's a case of hope for the best, expect the worst.

Yeah that looks like our only hope - can a 40 y/o Giggs manage in the middle? - fcuk it I suppose after Wen night you couldn't put it past him.

No it wasn't, one more goal for City and they topped the group. It doesn't give me much hope anyway, City are a far better team with a manager who understands tactics. I expect Moyes to park the bus and hit them on the counter, De Gea will have to put in two huge performances.

Giggs simply has to play in both legs.I can only imagine the implications if he plays Cleverley in midfield.

Bayern seem to be able operate at different levels of intensity depending on how the game goes.

They can easily win the first leg and then coast in the second leg.

The amount of time Giggs got on the ball was crazy and you won't see that against Bayern, whether he plays or not will be Moyes' decision and it's more likely to go wrong rather than well.

Starting both Giggs and Rooney beside Carrick is very very dodgy, Carrick is so bad when put under pressure, I'd probably rather Rooney play right wing and we put someone else in there but that's taking away Valencia's pace and Bayern looked suspect when Ox was running at them in Arsenal game.

I think Valencia & Welbeck will be the first names on the team sheet - I think Moyes will work his system around them because we need pace and the ability to break fast and beat the man to give Rooney and RVP a chance to do something magic.

Of course they will be delighted but I do think we will give them a game whatever the result and i'm sure Pep will be taking us rather seriously.

Ox's ability to beat players compared to Valencia is chalk and cheese.

embrace the challenge.... at least we will go into the game as massive underdogs no one will expect nothing from us... I already see all the 10-0 agg scores people have predicted. First legs is massive. IF united can keep a clean sheet would be unreal. we have a decent record against Munich as well as far as I can remember. I wanted Dortmund and if we had of gotten them I would have expected a win at least not no one is giving us a prayer against Munich.

Tactics will be the winning or losing of the first leg. Bayern will play with a false no9 more than likely Muller. I expect Carrick and Fellaini to start in a holding role filling up the spaces. Rafael can expect a tough night, whoever plays in front of him will need the game of his life. Alaba best left back in Europe and Ribery 3rd best player in the world will cause all sort of problems down that side.

Dante is suspended for the first leg and will be a big loss meaning Javi Martinez and more than like Boateng will play centre halves. Boateng can be got at and is rather clumsy.

    Cant wait for it....

I wonder if Kagawa will start against Munich. How many years was he at Dortmund, 1 or 2?

Looking forward to it anyway, hopefully we can manage to make it competitive. I don't think it will be the landslide everyone else is expecting anyway.

    Carrick, Giggs, Cleverley and Felliani

    v

Lahm, Schweinsteiger, Thiago, Martinez, and Kroos

I am actually embarrassed that three years after that spanking by Barcelona we are still having to use Carrick and Giggs, Fergie needs a right kick in the hole for not addressing the issue.

Still, I'm not particularly concerned that we drew Bayern. We were going to be massive underdogs regardless of who we drew, so no point fretting about it. In fact I would prefer Bayern to either of the Madrid sides.

Bayern hockeyed Barca 7-0 over two legs in the semis last year so what makes you think they won't hockey Man U in the quarters this year? Did they show Barcelona respect at the Camp Nou last year?

Since then, Man Utd have lost one of the greatest managers in history, whilst Bayern have gained an exceptional manager, to add to their exceptional squad, and have been scoring a shedload of goals in an undefeated league campaign thus far.

Man Utd have added David 'I will put my plans in place when the time is right' Moyes, and the squad has regressed. Morale is clearly in the $hitter, and they reward a disloyal player who has tried to leave twice with a record contract as a face-saving gesture.

To think that is going to end in anything less than a minimum 4 goal deficit is deluded.

Surely a middle three of Fletcher, Carrick and Fellaini will be needed? Cleverly & Giggs will literally be bent bent over by the Munich midfield.
    De Gea
    Rafael - Jones - Vidic - Evra/Buttner
    Fletcher - Fellaini - Carrick
    Welbeck - RVP - Rooney

Normally I'd agree with you but who are the alternatives to be honest? We'll have to score at some stage and sadly he is the only player we have capable of creating something from midfield at the minute. In saying that I wouldn't be surprised to see Rooney play that role either.
