just seen dortmund lost tonight at home....said it earlier today that i was hoping we would win tonight and hopefully draw dortmund next round....could be a semi final on the horizon if we draw them, anything can happen again after that....

    ideal draw

    real v bayern
    chelsea v barca
    man utd v dortmund
    psg v athletico

    semi....

    real v barca
    man utd v athletico

    final

    man utd v real

Vodka messes up the brain. He won a bet as well don't forget. I'm sure he poured himself an extra glass!

lol good man GNev, asked if he considers Utd outsiders he looks at Carragher and says 'There's been some non-fancied team in the past that have beaten Olympiakos and gone on to win it'

The first half was so enjoyable. The second half was horrific.

I'm lost for words when it comes to Evra. He gets more pathetic with every passing game.

I can't believe he is the captain. He doesn't give a ****. He needs to go. His performances this season are running his legacy, for me.

The atmosphere was great. A proper European night. God knows what will happen in the next round. I'm very scared.

It's great that we are through, but everyone in the draw will be praying to get us in QFs. Hopefully we can kick on and build momentum towards the QF as it is are only realistic chance of silverware.

Moyes "We`ll go into the quarters as underdogs" Probably true but not sure why hes saying it.

That list of the teams remaining is scary, so much quality

I really wish Moyes would stop saying Utd are underdogs.
I know it's probably true but really, you are the manager of the club, show a bit of belief and determination to your players ffs.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 972 ✭✭✭Deiseboy01

Moyes presser. We'd be underdogs in the quarters. Whoever we drew. then his trademark 'hopefully' we can do it. 'This club' can do it. I don't see why not?

Seriously get positive for once man.

It's not a realistic chance of silverware really.

It's slightly more realistic than it was when I was staring at the bottom of another pintglass after the liverpool match.

No I put my point forward earlier that clearly they had worked on stuff in training so his inclusion was not just a last minute one. Tbh the fact you think a PL manager changed his lineup the day prior to the game to prove a point to a tabloid is a joke.

What were these things that were worked on in training then? Tonight, for the most part, Giggs had little pressure put on him. When he did, he lost the ball. When given the chance, he picked out a pass; that should be expected of any midfielder.

I have zero doubt in my mind that Giggs was chosen today to try and quell the rumours, in the same way (as Moyes admitted) he left RVP on against Newcastle despite injury. Moyes has, on more than one occasion, chosen teams and changed tactics based on public perception rather than tactical awareness.

I think that's the correct thing to say on this occasion. Great result, the players will be on a high. But the 1/4's are where we should be and the final is the ultimate goal. I think this team can be 'mentally suspect' at times, it was shown against Real in the 2nd leg last season when they capitulated after Nani's red. The underdog label won't hurt us in this competition.

I'll never understand this attitude. Very strong teams but all beatable, even by this Utd side.

Utd under Moyes have zero chance of beating Munich, Madrid, Barcelona and Athletico IMO.

    My thread right now

Credit where its due. Giggs involved in two goals and passing was nice.

Valencia was well fired up. Not very creative but the right flank looked impenetrable.

Evra...my word. He stopped chasing so many times. Major concern. STEPUP Alexander and take.your chance by the bollox.

Van Persie body language a lot better. Movement..work in the channels and linkup play. Hopefully only a minor knock.

Jones at CB now as #1 please. Smalling or Evans to slot in. Been a long time waiting to see him get a run there. Obviously mistakes will come as he a barely played there for us...but he looks a tyrant at times. Needs to work on his tackling though. He runs the risk of injury too often.

    Are you David Moyes? :pac:

Seriously though, of course they have a chance. Every team has a chance. This Utd team has serious quality still in it and are well able to compete with any side in the world on their day.

Either Dortmund or Chelsea in QF's would be ideal - it would give us some sort of chance to progress.... I think Moyes should now use the PL to work out a structured system of play for the CL - almost forget about PL at this stage....

Any good photos of Valencia's eye?

We need to get that man an eye patch, the most one footed player ever, may as well play without a left eye as well as a left foot.

Was the RVP comment not said in jest in a post match interview? At the time I certainly thought that and couldn't believe the ****storm it caused afterwards.

I seriously doubt he picked Giggs to prove a point to the media. His own explanation afterwards seemed very reasonable (experience, cool head etc etc).

A good team would have beaten us tonight after that second half performance.

Even the best draw for us could lead to a hiding, we're going to need an incredible amount of luck and players being as good as they possibly can to get through the next two CL games

Aye but at least we will have absolute no pressure on us - everyone, I mean everyone will expect us to lose.... Even this team under Ferguson would be major underdogs up against most of the teams left.

Rooney and Van Persie. Who else has serious quality?

I disagree. He very much gives a **** and is a leader but he's ****ed. Saw him busting a lung at one point to try and get back and he simply didn't have it in him, there's so little left in the tank that he can't handle starting at left back at a top club anymore. His heart is in the right place though, he loves the club and gives his all

In fairness to Moyes it was a brave and right call now to pick Giggs. It will do against the Greeks anyway. He need to have a Plan B against better opposition.

Still its nice to actually be in good form for 1 match. It might be short lived but I will enjoy it while it lasts.

So do you lads really believe that either smalling or evans are any good at all?

I think the Olympiakos game was the make or break game for Moyes. He will certainly get another season at Utd and they didn't play too badly tonight barring some individual performances but those were from players who surely won't be a part of the team next season and bound to be replaced.

I think if Moyes steadies the ship and gets the team actually functioning Utd could get 5th at least.
