id be thinking 2-0 united at 90 mins

    any ideas??

I said on match thread 1-1.

The very best we can hope for is extra time and that is pushing it.

United to win the match but not the tie imo.

The optimist in me wants to say 2-1; yes, even the optimist in me can't see us qualifying.

I hope I'm wrong. I think we'll win but not keep them from scoring. But the sad fact is that every time a team comes to Old Trafford now and actually shows a bit of desire, we crumble and give in. I think some people are thinking we can win cause "shure it's only a few greek lads", but if they've made it this far, they aren't a bottom of the PL table team :/

I hate how Moyes has made me dread games though. Just feel more and more depressed going into matches now. :(

similar side to sunday, with young in for mata.

    united to go out.

There's very little to suggest Utd will progress. Depressing when you consider the Utd of old would be very confident of overturning a 2-0 deficit against a lot of clubs at Old Trafford.

    1-0

An early goal for United could shake Olympiakos. They're obviously confident after the 1st leg, but I'd expect a better performance than that tonight. I can see Januzai making way for Kagawa, Young coming in for Mata, hopefully Nani on the bench and give him 20 minutes.

Just please no Valencia and Cleverly.

Smalling and Evans are still out, so will prob see a back 4 of Raf, Jones, Vidic, Evra. Midfield pairing of Fellaini and Carrick. Attacking trio of Rooney, Kagawa and Young, with RvP up front.

But we need to score early. It will be difficult, especially when they'll have 10 men behind the ball from the kick-off, and try to catch us on the break. I'd actually prefer if we played an attacking wing game tonight.

I can see Olympiakos scoring an early goal and that will be it!

Im hopeing against all hope that Moyes has had some brain intervention and plan tonight to really go for it tonight.
Id love to see an attacking Utd team, with pace, quick passing counter attacks etc etc...

But ive been wishing for that all season and left dissapointed each time. I dont expect any different tonight. Utd wont get more than 3 goals and i think Olympiankos will score.
2-1 to Utd and dumped out of it !

their defense are more than capable though. i dont think united will have a lot of success if trying the attacking wing game

players like nani januzai and rooney playing behind rvp could actually work tonight

that would see lots of players making runs into the box instead of just lobbing it in and hoping rvp gets on the end of it.

or even put rooney up with rvp and play jan behind them and have nani and young making runs on the wing with fellaini "protecting" the back 4

the liverpool fan in me will flush my head down the toilet and steal my lunch money for this but i think united will go through tonight. might go to extra time to do it but like leverkusen, olympiacos dont travel well. they got a win at anderlecht and a draw at benfica but if you seen those games they looked so poor. add that to the fact that they conceeded 5 goals in their last 2 games in the league..................... might seem like im over reacting but what if i told you that in the previous 27 games in the league they only conceeded 4!!!! they lost their last 2 and conceeded more than in their whole season. they where unbeaten since november away to psg and unbeaten in the league since the 3rd of feb 2013

manchester united will and should go through tonight. so what ye lost to liverpool the weekend. liverpool are having their best ever season while ye are having yer worst. that game is over now. so what ye lost in greece its a hard place to go. ye just need 2 goals at old trafford against a greek side who are going through their own bad patch. ye will take them

I have no doubt we will go for it.

Just think it will be Sunderland again where we will do the minimum, get ahead and then sit back, letting them come in for some extra time comeback :/

That's what I think will happen as well, probably get back level, then go all defensive play for extra time and get caught out again.

Just wondering how people would feel about Carlos Queiroz coming in as assistant manager ? Unlikely to happen of course for obvious reasons but he is a great tactician.

Have you answered the question you were asked earlier? If that song isn't about Hillsborough, why is the first line "the sun was right"? What did they report about Heysel?

We have to go for the win tonight. If I see a defensive lineup I'll scream.

think that has been dropped at this stage

Mod Warning: Just to make this perfectly clear to all.

With the anniversaries of Hillsborough and Heysel coming up in April and May, and with the anniversary of Munich having just been in Febuary, We are sure that there are certain posters who will see those tragedies as an excuse to act the fool, feign ignorance or outrage, troll, or just make outright spiteful comments.

This thread and the Liverpool FC superthread are the threads most frequently used by those likely to engage in such behaviour, and as such this warning will be going in both threads.

Anyone caught trying to use the tragedies to further their own childish and petty internet fueds will be looking at a forum ban, and anyone who already has a chequered past in this forum that engages in such behaviour will also have their names passed on to the admin with the recommendation that they be given permanent bans from the forum.

There will be no wriggle room if you get caught, and if you have a track record of using the tragedies for petty spats in this forum over the years, then that will be taken into account when it comes to bans and recommendations of perma bans.

This warning will not impact on the vast majority of posters who read it, as they are capable of having adult discussions on such topics, but for the small number who are incapable of such, this is the only warning that will be given so don't come crying about bans if you decide to use tragedies as a means to get reactions in this forum.

this is a manchester united thread btw, pls stop trolling.

some rumours last night going about that van gaal has been contacted.

I don't think he would be the answer tbh. not if we could be willing to wait until after the world cup to replace moyes

Any deal with van Gaal will have to wait until after the WC, so would be the middle of July before he could take over. Moyes took over at the start of July, don't see what difference a week or two would make.

If we are waiting until after the WC, then I would hope that some transfer targets have already been identified.

Realistically, I don't think Moyes will be sacked in the summer, maybe by Xmas if it doesn't go well at the start of next season.

I guess the main difficulty in these situations is trying to play attacking football while not conceeding an away goal

I think we'll make ourselves hard to beat out there tonight.

Was Van Gaal, Fergies choice originally in 2002, I think I remember reading that he was. He could keep the seat warm till Klopp or Pep becomes available.

    Carrick
    Fellaini-
    Januzaj----Mata---Welbeck
    Rooney-

    or

    Fellaini
    ----Januzaj----Kagawa
    Mata
    ----Rooney--Welbeck

Is how I'd set Utd up for this, the former a bit less less attack minded, the latter risky but exciting. Leave RvP on the bench as Welbeck will do more even if he is less talented.
