Still behind Moyes (I know i'm probably half fcuking mad) but I still think he can change things around with time... Beat Olympiacos is an absolute must now for Moyes, if we can contain City to a goal or 2 and beat Olympiacos then he will survive until the new season but if we are properly embarrassed by City (3+ goals) then I think that could be that.

Can anybody give a reasonable answer as to what the tactics were yesterday? I had no idea what was going on.

    genuinely, no.

It looked to me from the outside that no united player expected to win that game, it looked like they went out there to get it over with. Expecting a defeat.

It was the meekest, lamest capitulation i've seen from a man utd team.
    Dreadful.

but on the positive side of things for man u, moyes simply cannot remain in charge for much longer.
He's done nothing to suggest that under him, this seasons form is temporary.

But what about the performance against West Brom? Surely it buys him some time?

You see this is the bit that sums it up for me.

When has any of us said that any time in the last 20-25 years?

Even when we had Djemba Djemba and Liam Miller in CM we always be thinking of nicking a win against Chelsea or Arsenal(top teams at time).

Now we have better team then that 04-05 team and now its gone to hopefully we will keep the score respectful.

and we will be the home team!!!!!!!!

You're right though. Its only going to be a matter of how much City win by. We might see a little repeat of the 1-6 game, but take away our goal and add on another 1 or 2 to them.

Should be beating them without any difficulty.

FFS contain City to a goal or 2 madness, Moyes is out of his depth i supported him until recently he hasn't shown any sign or indications of what way he wants the team playing.

one thing that shocked me was Moyes saying "we have to make ourselves harder to beat".

I was like What? Harder to beat? that's something a manager who's trying to stop his team going down says. He's managing United. Serial Winners. winners for the best part of 25 years, and before that. make them harder to beat? he's joking surely.

Well SAF couldn't handle them either when we lost 6-1 ...we were humiliated beyond belief that day - they are a powerful team and anyone in Europe would struggle against them on their day.

In our current state and them baying for blood in a Manchester derby things could get ugly - very ugly, I really do fear a total demolishing altogether ... would a new manager at this stage help us beat City - I don't think even the great man himself returning could manage that feat.

But that was 1 off. Yes City proved a real point that day and gave us a lesson, but we ended up losing the league to them on Goal Difference after blowing nice lead.

A bad result is acceptable if its only a handful in a season, not every week.

I feel sorry for him. I really do.

as a man, from a realistic human point of view i really feel sorry for him. Publicly he's working in a job in which he's clearly out of his depth. I've always thought of him a decent guy, a nice man. He's aged terribly this season. If he was a family member i'd be worried about his health.

However, if I was a united fan i'd be wanting him out. Get a manager who has a plan in. Even if you guys had a **** season, if there was progression (like liverpool under Rodgers) the manager would get time and support. even from a financial standpoint he's being paid 8m a year, going to cost 35m in CL revenue, about 10m in lost PL prize money, and then he's going to want to spend huge money on top of the 70m he's spent already with no improvement?

On the other side of things, it's obviously great as an opposition fan.

But did Ferguson majorly improve the team after that humiliation? no, they have added more strength and depth if anything. Now I love SAF to bits but towards the end and we all know it here the team was massively in decline even with the addition of RVP who probably won us the league last year... we have reached crisis point and the lack of continuous quality signings on a regular basis has raised its ugly head in frightening fashion.

You have a point, but we were still miles miles better then this.

I never expected to win the league this year and I expected few awful performances, but I did not expect them week in week out, bar maybe 5 decent games this season.

Once Liverpool went 2-0 up yesterday that was it. Liverpool fans were cheering every pass they made after about 70th minute. They knew it was over, I knew, every United fan, even the dogs on the street knew it was over.

When Vidic got sent off I was like " Dam this could be 5 or 6-0"

We dont create chances now. We never really looked like scoring yesterday.

Its awful seeing a PL, CL and WC winner like Mata being turned into a lad who looks like he has never seen a football in his life.

A few things dawned on me yesterday. It really hit home yesterday how bad things are.

Im half laughing writing this. Im not angry or disappointed for some strange reason.

Its just gone too funny now.

Honestly how in god's name has he not been sacked. Hopefully getting knocked out of the CL tonight will be the final nail in the coffin.

He does not deserve any more time or money. Get rid asap.

His negativity has infected the whole team.

David Moyes couldn't even manage that.

What kind of fcuking talk is that - no matter who is in charge or where we are in any league, how the fcuk can you wish the team to lose  - I've heard it all now.

Sorry wednesday even :S It's a given anyway. I'm not sure how anyone could be optimistic about the game. We will concede at least 1 and we have no chance of scoring 4 against them.

I can't fault the formation or team selection for the pool game. It would have been the best with maybe Kagawa instead of Jan but once it became obvious that VP was again playing ****e he should have been taken off. He offered nothing for the entire game.

Just because he's getting 200k a week does not mean he can't be dropped or subbed off early. Moyes is afraid to rock the boat. VP should have been taken off with Wayne moved up front and Kagawa or Mata slotting in behind.

Regardless we aren't playing any sort of cohesive attacking football and it's all down to Moyes and the ****e coaches. This situation is not going to improve with even world class players brought in.

I'm not wishing the team to lose. I know we are going to lose. We might win the game but not the tie. How can you be optimistic about it?

I watched the Southampton v Liverpool game few weeks back and watched how easy and how well Southampton played. Im sure even the Liverpool fans will admit 3-0 victory was flattering.

Southampton created chances and played some lovely stuff. This is a team in Mid Table.

Yet we were nothing like that. No nice 1-2 passing. No unity between defence and CM and then to attack. Its long balls down the wing all the time.

The distance apart between players would make Trapattoni angry. It was awful yesterday.

Can anybody give a reasonable answer as to what the tactics were yesterday? I had no idea what was going on.

At least with Trap Ireland you knew what was happening. You knew there was game plan even if awful to watch.

Yesterday it was no game plan, no unity and a hammering. Im just glad Liverpool were average yesterday.

I very much agree with the bolded part, the fact is Southampton were a way tougher match than Utd. They did have spells of domination , play some lovely stuff and cut Liverpool open a few times, where as utd did none of the above. I know Pochettino would be well down the list of managers you might want in, but he would be a huge upgrade on Moyes because he at least has a game plan, similar to Rodgers, it's all about the pressing these days lads, the pressing!. United were so disjointed it was untrue.

As a non Man Utd fan I have to say Moyes has got to go, he's a no hoper, things will not change, should never have got the gig, cut him a drift, get in a decent manager and you'll be more than likely back in the mix next year.

Still 90+ min of football to play - optimism has nothing to do with it.

    What then?

Do you think we can keep a clean sheet while scoring 2-3 goals in the 90 minutes?

Do you think if when we concede 1 that we can score 4.

All of this with no Mata and Moyes's refusal to play Kagawa combined with a seriously out of form Van Persie and an over reliance on Wayne to create everything.

The answers to these questions are pretty obvious.

i am old enough to remember listening to utd v barcelona in second leg of 84 game on mw 606 or 909 bbc. reception bit hit and miss but **** was there some atmosphere that night. stapleton twice and robson if i recall correctly and big ron in charge straight from topping up the tan on his sunbed in his office. :D

always look on the bright side of life.

Can Manchester United score 3 unanswered goals at OT to Olympiacos - YES!

I admire your optimism but it's completely unfounded. I've been right about this all season.

I'll be more than willing to eat my words and some humble pie if we win on wednesday but I have a funny feeling I won't have to.

Bearing in mind if united go through, they'll have to play Bayern/Barca/Real/PSG. It could be serious humiliation against one of them.

We can win this 3-0 alright. We can just as easily get beat 0-2 again.

I think we will need 4 though.(at least)

Its one of the things i sat there thinking watching that game on Sunday surrounded by Liverpool fans was the fact very early on they felt it and i felt it we never looked like we could score.

Every time they brought ball forward i felt ah **** this could be trouble the pace of there play just totally over powered us it was really unbelievable to watch this as a United fan used to watching our team overpower clubs instead even more so having big performances when they where really needed.

I taught about some of the big moments down the years the year we beat the record breaking Arsenal team the treble year the 4-3 against City etc.

Not once this season have i felt we were about to witness a day like that.

Our build up play at this stage is just gone we get past our own half and freeze its as if these players all of a sudden turned into part timers and dont know how to play!

Its beyond bad really at the moment because there is nothing there to say things could get better as long as Moyes is at the club or he continues to do things the way he is.

Even a few big signings in summer will make no difference i mean hes made Juan Mata look like a non league player.

Ah at this stage really honestly things can only get worse as long as Manchester United are without a world class manager a true leader of the club.

Ah i'd hope we could beat Olympiacos and go on to the QF of the Champions League - things can be decided after all competitions end...
