Scrubber, is the gorse not in flower yet?

Not quite. With all the cold winds we have had it will be a couple more weeks. Still in good nick. Green staff working on bunkers due to heavy rains but only one spot on 9th wet on fairway.

Thanks - I'm down your way to take photos of the course next weekend (14/15/16 March), and was planning it around the gorse being out. Fingers crossed for a warm run of days.

    Kevin,

Lovely photo. For my money, Arklow has one of the very best set of modern greens in the country. The second is my favourite of the lot.

    I rate the course highly.

Nikon D600. The lens is 24-70mm. Been saving up to buy them for a while!

Greens are glorious, alright. Fantastic to the eye and wonderful options for approaches. Do you know who did them, Ally.

Have to confess, the 9th green is my favourite. A brute of a par three to get into - as this pic shows:

Great shots of Arklow Kevin - the light is spectacular.

Arklow is another hidden Gem that you hear very little about. I guess the quarry views take a bit away from it for some. Also very tight to fit a course in, in places.

    I love it.

I like the way it is in a town too. Always a bit more life around the place.

Was half thinking of buying a new set of irons later in the year, but after seeing that shot I might just treat my trusty D40 to that lens

I can't remember which cost more: the camera or the lens. I think I closed my eyes when the guy at Conn's tried to show me the bill... which may explain why the irons I'm using were bought in 2005. Weigh that one up, Loire!

Maybe this is miles off the mark - but does the rough look very cut back on the left hand side there.
As in you have a shot.

No your dead right Fix, i asked the same due to hearing all these stories about how bad the rough is, i was told that in the winter they cut it back, probably only reason i got a good score, i pulled few drives and still found them

Played there last summer and the rough was brutal. Two yards out of position = brown bread

1st hole is a cracker. Don't remember the rough though, and was there in July (2008). I think the attached shows a bit more of it.

Sorry Kevin - missed this question.

Eddie Connaughton was the designer and it was DAR who constructed and shaped them.

Thanks Loire, thankfully the fog lifted quickly after that and it turned out to be a beautiful morning.
