****e morning here. Electric playing up all morning, not enough power coming. Finally went at 8 when I had 4 rows of cows left to milk. Came back at 20 to nine. Only finished milking now. Then a cow that calved two days ago started fighting, she was the boss last year. Knocked down an old cow in the yard. Took me half an hour to get her up. Thought she was a goner.

Had to give a bullock abit of encouragement to get up yesterday evening after dark...! I got him through two stubble fields on my own as he was casterated a few days previous and the bag had swollen up goodo and had a infection, so was feeling sorry for himself, when I got him into the yard I had to put him in with a few heifers that your in the yard, as I needed to sort out a place for him to go. Well the belt he got off 1 heifer put him on ground, he didn't get up for while!

    Con
I know it looks like there is a cosy club at the school but don't be dissuaded by that. You'll be surprised how many other parents will come out of the woodwork to thank you if you go the distance. A lot of advice on here so nothing really to add.

Hope the doors of the houses it hit werent open ! I wonder was he agitating when it burst or did something hit the tank .
I cant imagine there were many tanks built 60 years ago but I could be wrong .

I was thinking of your posts about getting an engineer to sign off on tanks to be on the safe side when building when reading about this , and I was talking to a lad the other day whose lambing polytunnel got wrecked in the storms and the insurance co. won't pay out because they werent inspected when he renewed his policy last year :(

I think the way it is now , you either have a watertight policy or the insurers will ride you over any excuse they can

at last renewal we removed the fire cover off our slurry towers, i specifically asked if they burst where we covered, she said we are, they are close to a river and there is a bund wall

Fire cover for the slurry tank ha, who dreamed that up! Did it knock much off the premium?

But the fire brigade would probably be called if one of them burst, I was told the local call out charges for our fire crew and if you had to stump up a days work for those lads it would be serious wedge. having over ground tanks covered might not be as ludicrous as one thinks
