Jaysis, if the day ever comes where I feel the need to put a camera on my helmet to put the reg plate of every car who ever beeped at me "on google" ...

    Can't say I blame him,
police will only do so much, he might as well get what revenge he can on the idiots he has to interact with

Except he seems to be almost willing a driver to do something stupid just so that he can get on his high horse, give a lecture at the lights and upload the video.

In my view, it's a minor incident on what is obviously a very busy road. If the car that overtook had lingered around just in front of him, then that's different, but it went way ahead. No big deal. As it is, another road-user drives off thinking cyclists are smug, self-righteous ar$eholes.

He wasn't though, the driver beeped at him for no reason. I seen no reason for the cyclists to react, although I did find it funny that he was freewheeling for so long just behind the car that beeped him

It really wasn't a big deal but I am a smug self righteous ar$e hole. I would have smiled and waved as I went by just to make sure they knew I was a smug self righteous ar$e hole. The look up your plate on google though is just trying to incite a reaction and distract a driver which is both irritating and stupid.

On another day I might have apologised and cut her a cheque. Was I too insensitive?

How about being conscientious and being the bigger person and asking if there was anyway you might help this fellow road user in distress?

I generally give a wave too, or a thumbs up, unless it's downright dangerous.

I do think he takes some perverse pleasure in encountering bad drivers though. I haven't checked, but I'd be willing to bet he's got quite a collection of similar videos online.

The driver came out all guns blazing and it was suggested a more conciliatory tone might of helped. Instead, she accused me of causing her to damage her car.

A couple of suggestions were raised earlier in the thread, like crawling under the car to reattach the exhaust or offering a tow. What other suggestion would you have, might I ask?

Edit - bearing in mind when I stopped to help the Hyundai driver a few weeks ago, his reaction was to utter an expletive and roll the window back up?

He was doing between 27-30mph in a 30mph zone, he in no way was impacting the motorists. The motorist is 100% in the wrong and just wanted to speed on the road in question.

Based on the road design and pinch points its clear the council designed it in such a way in order to reduce people's speed, this of course had the knock on affect of making it more dangerous for a cyclist and forcing the cyclist in the video to cycle the way he did.

The fact that by the very end of the video he was still right behind the car in question shows that its a busy area and he in no way delayed the motorist to begin with, even after they initially speeded to overtake him.

In short the driver was being a dick and the cyclist was dead right in doing what he did. Cyclist unlike motorists don't have horns to beep in most cases to show how annoyed,. angry they are or to use in the case of somebody doing something stupid/dangerous.

It's not the rightness, it's the righteousness.

Would you stop and berate a pedestrian for crossing a road between moving cars? That's dangerous and illegal too.

    Where does this end?

Give her your bike so she is not late to wherever she was going and then wait with her car to either repair it and drive yourself or if that is not your area, wait for the AA or road side assistance. Don't forget to exchange details so you can give her back her car.

But my cycling shoes are size 11. How on earth would have that worked?

If she was to wait with you for the AA to come you could ask her if she would like to play a game of Chess.

I really wanted to do that this morning. I was driving south past harolds cross and sundrive this morning, and my side of the road was clear whereas the other side of the road heading into town had a long stationary queue of cars, about 150m long.

I had passed the lights at the crossroads, and was going about 45km/h and out steps a woman from between cars and she runs across the road without even a look in my direction. I really wanted to stop and ask her why she wanted to get herself killed!

Back on topic a bit more though, I think you don't stop and argue with peds as you're most likely going to be faster than them when cycling the same direction, whereas you can catch up with cars who have 'wronged you' at lights quite often.

No, I mean as a pedestrian, why would you not stop another pedestrian and berate them for crossing the road unsafely?

I've seen that happen too. Cycling out of town up Aungier St on the with a queue of traffic going the whole way. I was cycling on the inside of the lane at about 30kmph and two peds decide to cross the road through the cars. One of them goes for it without looking my way as I'm about 5-10 metres away. I end up skidding a bit doing an emergency brake and doing a front wheelie for a metre, bruised my knee off my bars. Let off an expletive while seething and at least the other ped had the decency to chastise the ped who stepped out blindly. The original ped was just completely clueless, derp derp.

That's not what the horn is for.

Making sure to get a deposit from her also, to cover the difference in value between her car and your bike.
