    Is that a joke?

It's OK, I've consulted my solicitor who informs me I have incurred absolutely no liability given the facts in the OP.

What, depart the scene on your tricycle? Unnecessary and puerile.

Just tell it like it is - that it wasn't your fault in any way. That's it. That scenario imagined in your head is usually the guff spouted on here that never happens.

I think the sarcasm is wasted on me.

I doubt it would register with someone that stupidly overtakes a cyclist in the face of oncoming traffic whose fault anything was.

On another level surprised she pulled in. The car sounding like an airplane must have alerted her to some something wrong in the outside world.

It's not a question of right or wrong, liability, or peoples assumptions when it comes to right of way on the roads. Somebody is in an accident and obviously distressed, who knows what kind of underlying conditions there are? You should have stopped and helped her. Yes she reacted badly and lashed out, but you ran away. Liable, guilty, or not, you left somebody who needed help.

What was I to do, crawl under her car and attempt to reattach her exhaust? Some people need to be protected from their own stupidity.

Or maybe it was some chancer hoping he would cough up some cash, either way its her own fault, let her sort it out herself I say.

No surprise there. Better safe than sorry anyway.

You serious? She performed a dangerous overtake which could have serious implications for the OP if it went wrong and you expect him to help her?

    Should he have towed her?

Fair enough if the motorist was genuine in their distress and not seeking to immediately apportion blame for their self inflicted predicament.

Next thing it would be you made me get pregnant....

"Sorry, I've had an accident, can you help me?" - Probably would help

"I made a stupid decision, broke my car and it's your fault" - Not a chance

Call me callous but it's true. I would expect the same treatment to be given to me.

You're right, the driver was obviously mental so OP did the right thing in scampering, who knows about her underlying conditions, she could be a serial killer, rapist, cannibal that was going to smack Pinch Flat over the head with her socket spanner, knocking him out, put him in the boot, take him up the mountains, drug him, rape him, kill him, take out his intestines, spit roast him, boil some spuds, maybe some mange-tout, buy some red wine and mushroom sauce, serve and eat him. OP you did well to get away from someone that may have been a serial killer, rapist, cannibal, you just don't know who anyone is these days.

Ah, no. Pinch Flat is a good welder. He could have got the work done on the spot.

Ha, yeah next time Aldi or Lidl have some welding kit on special I'll pick one up for those moments. I carry enough with me as it is....

That's the spirit! But come on! Mangetout?....maybe in a stir fry or with some grilled fish, but spit-roasted cyclist and mushrooms? You're out of line.

Ha yeah I think the neighbour is still getting psychiatric treatment after that one. Carpet was cleaned on Tuesday.

Would have been some laugh if it was her who passed me yesterday morning.

    i love those ;)

well, i do pay road tax for my car

if i decide to take bicycle instead then my car stays in my driveway, so i never can understand logic behind 'hurr durr cyclist don't pay road tax'

i paid, but i choose to take bicycle instead, so not only i have paid and choose to not 'block' the road with it but also i'm saving people from breathing my exhaust fumes and i don't take parking space - as simple as that

(consider this - why should anyone pay for their second, third etc. car - if he\she is the only person that uses those?)

but to keep on topic - i would probably came with some much more insensitive than 'sh!t happens', mainly to make her share the story with everyone she knows ;)

You don't pay road tax you pay motor tax (because your car has a motor - geddit?;)) - that's the point, which is well off-topic for this thread and has been done to death many times on the forum

What was her tone, OP? Is there any chance she could have been saying it tongue-in-self-deprecating-cheek? :pac:

(If not, just in 'impertenance cheek', so!)

Yes. My version of this arguement will end in a "... in fact, I think I'm owed a rebate" if anyone tries the 'road tax' line on me

After I've told them that they don't pay "road" tax either (it's "motor" tax), of course :p
Edit: Beaten by Beastie - I must be trapped in an alternative timeline

Hmmm, let hope that if a "motor" tax was ever implemented for cyclists its not based emissions like cars. I would be the equivalent of a chieftain tank

As I've already indicated, motor tax is off topic for this thread

    Thanks
