Neighbour of mine lost 2 autumn calvers one yesterday and one this morning with tetany .

we always loose 1 around this time of year but what usually happens is they push the bucket under the electric fence so they cant get at it, this year we have 2 buckets with them

I was told a good aul story this evening.

A local farmers cattle had 'broken' out and he decided he leave them in the neighbours field and he left them there eating all the grass. Long story short, it went to court as the owner of the field wanted payment for the grass he lost. Judge fined the farmer 5 shillings and asked him had he anything to say for himself.

'Me lordship' he replied 'Could I get it next year at the same money?'

father is consudering having 2/3 of the herd high fert fr and the rest pue je. Im more leaning to the nice tidy 5-6000l high fert fr cows, and keep the high solids i have.

A mix of both would be nice to have jersey,if ur sticking with winter milk I'd try and predominantly have your winter calvers the pure jersey type and spring ladies your 6 to 7 k high fertility/ebi/solids hol freisan.the pure jerseys would bring you some money through the winter in a year like this.

Id prefere keep the fr cows around the same yeild as the je cows if i went that way. Ye wouldn't have a big difference in feed demand then and they would all be a uniform enough size.
I never thought of milking pure jerseys in the winter milk.

Anyone one watching Joe Brolly on replacements. Never thought of it before, anyway just told the wife if I go before her, give them whatever they want. Can't see any issue with an opt out system versus an opt in one. Makes you gratefull for what you have

Yea never liked brolly but fair play to him for doing that. Only watched it after I read the article in yesterday's programme.

Anyway they can have mine when I'm gone. Due what use is it to me.

Just boarded a plane gor Newcastle. Felka I work with is collecting me from the airport. Have to meet a few farmers in the morning but think I'll go on the rip tonight anyway. Fella collecting me says it'd be wrong to visit Newcastle and not get bleary eyed
