Just put the captaincy on McShane and watch the points roll in. He's on fire at the moment.

  • Registered Users Posts: 24,815 ✭✭✭✭emmet02

Don't have him in my team, and am not allowed substitutions, transfers or captaincy changes.
Someone needs to convince Steve Clarke that Shane Long is ready to lead the line again.

Also Walters is going to need to get amongst the goals too.

Currently 9-0 down on Head to Head weeks. (Line is set at 6.5 Ireland GW wins)

And the Classic League not looking pretty.

I thought this would be the place to post this, I am experimenting with a British and Irish Team, I would like people's thoughts...

    Cheers,

    Cheers,

Why on earth is Cameron Jerome in that side?!

I don't see the likes of Lallana, Brady, Barkley, Curtis Davies or Marshall, all of whom have been performing well this season. Dawson instead of Walker in defence and Lambert or Rodriguez would be a much better bet than Jerome in the forward line.

I'm currently involved in a H2H challenge with an English team (we have a handicap of 475 points) and thanks to Rooney missing for a fair bit of the season, I've done quite well (currently 50 points ahead of handicap).

Here's the problem though. We get to use our wildcard this week and this week only.

Rules of the challenge are pretty simple.
'New' (wildcard) Team is set in stone by end of this gameweek. No subs, no transfers, no captain changes.

I was fairly blessed/unlucky at start of year to be even able to enter the bet, as I needed 3 strikers and Conor Sammon only signed for Derby after we'd started.

Are there any improvements on this team available? There's not a whole lot of options!
    T P P CP SP PP NR
    Given Goalkeeper £4.5 £4.5 £5.0 SOU (H)
    Westwood Goalkeeper £4.3 £4.3 £4.5 WHU (H)
    O'Brien Defender £4.5 £4.2 £4.0 SUN (A)
    Clark Defender £4.4 £4.4 £4.4 SOU (H)
    O'Shea Defender £5.0 £5.0 £5.0 WHU (H)
    Pearce Defender £3.8 £3.8 £3.8 WBA (H)
    Harte Defender £3.8 £3.8 £4.5 WBA (H)
    Duff Midfielder £5.8 £5.8 £6.0 WIG (H)
    Pilkington Midfielder £5.8 £5.8 £6.0 NEW (H)
    McCarthy Midfielder £4.8 £4.8 £4.8 FUL (A)
    Walters Midfielder £6.6 £6.5 £6.5 CHE (H)
    McClean Midfielder £5.7 £5.7 £6.5 WHU (H)
    Long Forward £6.2 £6.1 £6.0 RDG (A)
    Hunt Forward £4.7 £4.7 £5.0 WBA (H)
    Sammon Forward £4.5 £4.5 £4.5 FUL (A)

    Looking at -

Sean Maguire transfer rumours to West Ham (replace Sammon, so long as he gets 5/6 sub appearances he is worth more than Sammon)
Marc Wilson's injury news (think this is a dud)
Richard Dunne's potential move to the states :(
Enda Stevens losing gametime at Villa
Alex Pearce's gametime threatened by new signing
Ian Harte's gametime being threatened by being old.
Any other Irish players entering the radar in the next 10 days.
    Needing a goalkeeper so badly!

Captaincy choice is essential. Has to be Walters though?

Here's the league if you want to follow progress.

    Cheers!

I am running a Nations League, if you want to get involved, give me a shout.

Have a no-transfer, no-substitution policy for the game already being played so not looking to handicap myself further really!

    ---

Good week for us this week considering we only had 8 players playing.

4 clean sheets (Clarke, Delaney, O'Shea and Coleman) and two goals (Long and Walters) gave us an above average 48 points.

However, Lambert and Gerrard (C) for England as well as Baines and Johnson keeping cleanies means we lose on the handicap (+17) still as England hit 71 points.

    Overall Ranking Percentile
    England 733,489 0.76
    Rep of Ireland 2,898,450 0.05

Westwood getting dropped is terrible news.
O'Brien, Duff and Brady with 0s and Meyler chipped in with 2 points

Ireland have at least 4 extra points this week anyway, the mighty Shane Long :pac:

We're on for our first H2H win this week!

    11-0 becomes 11-1!

    11-2!!

Meyler, Coleman, O'Shea and Long (C) 57 pointer

Mark Noble should be on your radar according to reports yesterday. 20 U21 England caps but his granny is from Cork!

Not scoring much but at least starts every game.

Apparently O'Neill had a look at him last night.

  • Registered Users Posts: 24,815 ✭✭✭✭emmet02

I can't have him in my side as he's in the England team!

We made rules at the start of the season about eligibility, as Noble hadn't declared either way, we went on his underage appearances.

However, if he were to come across the water I'd have to force the England team to cut him and I'd clearly take him into my midfield (Duff is useless this season - McCarthy next in line).

Only one opportunity all season to make changes, and it will be the January WildCard window. Historically this has been a disaster for the Irish side, as we have zero options to expand the team with, while the England team usually finds a few Andros Townsend, Luke Shaw, Michael Dawson cheap points, enabling upgrades to Sturridge, Rooney, Lambert strikeforce.

Damien Delaney with a few points for us last night. Good lad!

11-3 in the H2H (we win if we get 8 or more over the season)

    The comeback is on!

    England 670

Getting that high profile assistant in has really paid off Emmet, some run

    Two goals this week!

    By O'Shea and O'Brien :(

Need Meyler and Brady to massively outscore Routledge tonight for any glimmer of a result to surface.

I just read that an hour ago, would be a fantastic coup!

Can take anyone who declares for Ireland.

Only issue is transfers are only allowed during the Winter Wildcard.

Come on Martin, sign them up!!

  • Registered Users Posts: 24,815 ✭✭✭✭emmet02

Ugh, the turnaround is over I think. Back to drubbings.

12-3 in the H2H (beaten 33-15 this week)

    This week, we are without
    Westwood, Walters, Pilkington, Bunn, Mason
    and
O'Brien, Duff, Brady, Meyler are not guaranteed gametime.

    Clark (MUN (H)), Coleman (FUL (H)), Delaney (CHE (A)), O'Shea (WHU (A)), Long (Car (A) {C})

carry the flag well please gents, this could be a disaster week.

(England are without ; Nolan, Gerrard, Sturridge, Baines, Foster. And Hart not guaranteed a start)

    ****.

Out of 15 players in his squad 7 played.
Walcott as Captain and Hooper scoring sinks me again in the H2H.

Coleman and O'Shea doing their part to keep us in touch on the handicap side though!

Can we squeeze a team together before Friday? (In order to get an agreed handicap).

    Randolph / Given
    Coleman, Delaney, O'Shea, -x- , -x-
    McClean, Walters, Whelan, McCarthy, -x-
    Long, -x-, -x-

    Any suggestions?

(We'll probably remove the wildcard or else allow an additional HC for it, i.e if you want to use your Wild Card it costs you 18 points per transferred player)

No subs, no captain changes. Need to field 15 Irish Eligible players in the squad, pick the formation that works best, then cover eyes for the rest of the season as it goes miserably as per usual.

Arter & O'Kane @ Bournemouth and Tommy Hoban @ Watford could 'fill slots' if need be in midfield and defence, but their gametime will be minimal / none.

    Meyler @ Hull
    Lenihan @ Hull
    Ward @ Burnley
(Kevin) Long @ Burnley - not in FPL

  • Registered Users Posts: 520 ✭✭✭hurlingman97

Harry Arter should play for Bournemouth

Sorry didn't see arter in your op*

  • Registered Users Posts: 2,081 ✭✭✭GetWithIt

You're going to have to do some serious outside the box thinking to get some attacking talent. I'd suggest raking up a bunch of Engerland players who are eligible but may have already turned us down.

    Mark Noble

Or even English players with caps but who could have played. Obviously will require a rule change from FIFA.

    Wayne Rooney

Wow, really scraping the barrel this time around.

  • Registered Users Posts: 8,975 ✭✭✭finnharpsboy

    Ward crystal palace in defence?
Darren Gibson Everton probably won't see much game time

  • Registered Users Posts: 17,022 ✭✭✭✭Iused2likebusts

Michael Keane is eligible for ireland

  • Registered Users Posts: 24,815 ✭✭✭✭emmet02

We have no strikers bar Long.

    No good :(

Think you should lobby for the inclusion of any striker with an Irish sounding name:

    Long, Rooney, Sergi O'Ageuro
