WTF, I tried to accept an invite but it said to restart because my playlist was out of date. So I did, and it reset me back to level 8 when I was closer to 15. Lost everything I'd purchased :(

its aimed at alot of people.

the thread is being spoiled for actual fans of ghosts who wants to discuss the game.

I gave my thoughts on the current game in my first post on the thread.

I posted one thing I truly did enjoy, Blitz. I also liked the new SnD game mode I forgot to had mention originally.

I stressed that I didn't want to comment on Battlefield, but when replied to with what I consider ignorant comments on the game (the game being too grey, err so is COD4, BOPS, MW3 and Ghosts. So what? The Operation Metro (a map in Battlefield 3) comment in particular was just beyond baffling to me), I'll be answering back, no two ways about it. I did bring up FIFA though, yes. I feel Activision and EA Sports namely are made from the same cloth both in the way they run things and the fans of their games. For reference sake, I don't buy FIFA any more for similar reasons to COD. FIFA was innovating and improving for a couple of years before doing down the toilet once again.

I explained what I hoping to see from the game, perhaps not in great detail but it's fairly known what I wanted with anyone posting in this forum over the past 4-5 years. A couple of posters and regulars over the years that I speak to near daily outside of this place can confirm that I truly wasn't paying much attention at all in the build up, so I was going in quite blind in trith (I saw one trailer and the TV ad that is played ad nauseam here in the US, the music for the ad I like. See, another positive!) till I got my hands on the game at a friends place a few days ago.

I tried to put forward that social aspect and gameplay aspect should be separated when judging the game as a final product, but some dare I say refuse to do so out of spite towards me and others just are unable to do this. If Clayfighters, one of the very worst games I've ever played in my 20 years gaming had some multiplayer system in which all of mates was playing currently, I wouldn't pick it up because of them.

I tried to comprehend it's appeal at this stage and the lack of weariness creeping in. People here I'm fairly sure this is the only game they play. They've playing COD since 2008, would be the general consensus going by past polls. So 5 years, playing most nights for a couple of hours at a time if not much more than that, it adds up. Yet people are still putting in the time and effort like it was nothing. Even as a big a COD4 fan as I'am, someone with a lot of time put in on both the Xbox and then PS3, I had to have other games to play to offset that.

I've been vaguely accused or called right out as a troll and a COD hater (I still play COD4 every now and again, heck I was playing COD2 on my friend and neighbours PC a couple of weekends ago and loving it!) by some over the years, be it when I running the forum more or less on my own for a year or two or after I stepped down because I had enough cop on to realise it was unfair of me to mod a forum that my interest in was eroding by the day. And then to round it off, as of yesterday, I've had some gob****e accuse me of using alternate accounts to further establish my point. Yeah, I'd really do that knowing admin can suss out whether or not I was using an alt-account(s) in a reasonably short amount of time. That'd be real smart of me to do. I'd actually have an inkling as to who one of the new accounts belongs to in fact going by the name alone :)

Anyway, I stand by what I said, it really sounds like you want this to be a happy chappy, all positive thread about the game you love and see not much if any fault in. I'm done with this thread.

I dont normally post in the COD forum anymore but heres my 2 cents on COD the series :P
Im not a COD hater but im just sad at what the series has become and the devs have forgotten their roots.
Initially COD was a semi realistic WW2 FPS that was pure class COD, CODUO and COD4 MW in particular were fantastic, since then its evolved into an arcade shooter.

I love my simulationand relism/semi realism games, lets use them as an example, technically and for the seasoned sim crowd they are great but not so to the mass market.
Obviously any dev will go with what the masses want and where the huge revenue is and who could blame them?
Ideally id have loved if they continued along the lines of COD and CODUO aswell plus another offspring that being the arcadey route they have taken what the game is now ,best of both worlds but was never gonna happen.
Personally i really enjoy some sort of realism in my shooters thus i get this from other games on PC but i often boot up either COD4,MW2,blops,blops2 to just sit back chill out and frag people, this is what COD does really well.
Compared to other games [on PC atleast] COD simply cannot compare in terms of scale, graphics, diversity, longevity but what it does it does damn well.
MW3 and Ghosts are the only games in the series i havent bought for myself [my son has them all on console],if the PC port was decent i might have considered Ghosts but alas the devs have shafted PC gamers once again with a shoddy effort.

I dont think I ever again want to play a ww2 shooter, between all the medal of honor games on the ps1 / ps2 and up to call of duty 3 I've had enough. I didnt even buy world at war.

we could have an american civil war or french revolution shooter. 1 shot muskets that take 30 seconds to reload - hit x, take out your powder bag, tamp it down the barrel, get your next bullet, tamp that in, set up the fuse, take aim....
The tension would be unreal. scorestreaks include maggots in the enemys rations for reduced health and trench foot for reduced mobility.

Thank god tis friday, I'm being terribly unproductive....

Have you tried day of defeat source or red orchestra?

    I lolled.

And a 25 kill streak gives the enemy team the plague/consumption and rats start suddenly flying around the map?

Half the battle is getting to grips with the maps, I find there's always a few hot spots and "go to" high traffic areas where most of the action takes place, once you get to know them the size of the maps seems less daunting imo, it just serves for more annoying hiding spots for campers > : |

But if anyone is playing later give us an add/invite? RS Ramza is my xbl gt

not at all. but there should be a different thread for people to moan about it and one for fans to chat about the game in general. i read all of your posts about the game this week and they were very informative and i agreed with alot of it.

Well lads I did create a megabitch thread so wouldn't that be the appropriate thread to bitch and moan about the game?

Anyway I think the thread should move towards discussing gameplay, Clan ops answering general questions about the game, rather then constant slagging from moaners, I agree with you Mark all this negativity where it might be justified for this game we have it now and we might as well get on with it for the next 12 months.

Just an FYI Double XP should be live now for the weekend lets all level up as much as we can, as it's going to be a slow climb to prestige all 10 Squad players ;)

I was thinking more for multiplayer games, like MOH:AA, RTCW, CoD:UO + CoD2, BF1942/3. All of which were probably the best games in their respective series and for me far more fun than these over the top, sit in the corner while your combat pigs get you 50 kills, styled **** that has been released over the last 5 or 6 years. I mean... its pretty much been the same theme since CoD4, with the exception of w@w. I think its about time we got a solid WW2 game again.

I guess you might be sick of them coming from a console point of view where it was just about the SP campaigns (Which where all probably a bit **** tbh). However im sure most people that played the games i've mentioned when they were in their prime would be refreshed with a few of these big names returning to their roots.

Yeah, i played DoD and DoD:Source a good few years ago, really fun games, hopefully valve release a new version with source 2.0.. would be awesome. Red Orchestra is too simmie for me, i was just getting raped from all sides when i tried it. I'd definitely be more excited about a new DoD than say call of duty or bf going back to that era... because i know Valve would keep it nice and simple and keep it about the gun on gun gameplay.

I wanted to sign up and give my two cents on this whole debate because gaming, and specifically FPS's, are close to my heart. It seems to me and the friends who've I've been speaking with over the last number of days that it is the younger generation that like Ghosts more or less and that it is the older crowd that dislike it. This is entirely understandable.

To the younger people out there that like the game and cannot understand the reasoning behind the hatred, I say this. As someone who has been playing Call of Duty for 10 years now, I, as have my friends, seen the game change considerably. Now I understand that games must change to a certain extent but I am not referring to innovation etc. I am talking about the direction to which Call Of Duty is going in. The original COD took the title from Medal of Honour. It was a piece of art, a masterpiece for it's time. COD2 followed, one of the best shooters to ever see the light of day. COD4 revolutionised the FPS genre. I have put well over 300 hours into that game. The COD franchise depicted, quite beautifully, the emotion and atmosphere of the WW2 time-period. That was Call of Duty. Today, the game has become an arcade shooter you'd pay a few cents into the machine to play for five minutes. It has become like this to appeal to the lowest common denominator in our gaming world. And it has done so at the sacrifice of what made it great in the first place.

Consider this: you love this band and attend their shows every night. You and your friends laugh, shout, joke and have a great time. One day you show up to hear the band and everything seems the norm. Suddenly, you close your eyes for a moment to really take in the lyrics and the sounds of your favourite band and when you open them up again, to your utter horror and disbelief, your friends have disappeared, and you're now surrounded by the shouts, insults, immaturity and screams of a million kids. What has become of your band?! Bob Marley on the stage has morphed into S Club 7! They're telling us to "wave our arms in the air like we just don't care", but my arms are not moving. Not even a little.

My nephew watches wrestling. The first thing he does when he walks through the door on a Saturday morning is turn on the TV for WWE. He's 12. I remember when I was his age and watched WWF. Instead of John Cena prancing around, our generation had Steve Austin sticking up his middle finger and telling everyone to "fvvck off!". The product has changed.

The reason I make these two examples is that Call of Duty has changed for us older guys. It's fine, I can accept that. But does this change automatically equate progress? Is it better? I would argue that it isn't.

I think the majority cling to COD for fear. Fear of what else is out there. Fear of actually enjoying another experience. Indeed, I would go so far to say that a lot of people that play COD perhaps don't play anything, if much, else. I can understand wanting to stay within the moment but I've been playing FPS for the best part of 20 years and I can honestly say that this is not an unusual occurrence by any means. It happened to Quake, it happened to Counter-Strike, it happened to Halo and it will, inevitably, happen to Call of Duty. At one point, a games time will come. I am not going to sit here and feed you some BS story about how COD is dying because it would be both true and untrue to some extent. The primary reason why a lot of people are negative about this franchise is because we expect the best. It's as simple as that. A poster earlier said something along the lines of "well, it's COD, what did you expect...you knew what it was going to be like"....I believe that poster, by defending COD, single-handedly created a fire-proof argument as to what is wrong with the series. It's an absolute indictment that this publisher and developer see it fit to refrain from giving us the absolute best when it comes to their product.

Battlefields' animations - that should be COD, Blacklights customisation - that should be COD, Skyrims skill-tree - that should be COD, Crysis' photorealistic graphics - that should be COD. The people that are negative towards the game don't hate COD for the sake of it. We're gamers just like you that have been playing COD for years and whom have witnessed the product stagnate. That's the basis for our negativity; frustration. It's genuinely insulting to us for a company to ask us to hand over cash for, what we know for a fact, is not their blood, sweat and tears, their heart and soul. It's simply "going through the motions". Kind of like buying a cool Rolex watch don't some laneway in the city. It's shiny and you look like a million dollars. Then on the bus home, some guy get's on and sits next to you. He, too, has a shiny Rolex watch. And it's shinier than yours. The difference being, his is the real deal and yours is some cheap, fake rip-off made in Taiwan. Which leads me into my last point as this is longer than I imagined it to be (when I start, I can't stop). Vince Zampella and Jason West are our Rolex watches. Robert Bowling, David Vonderhaar and Mark Rubin are the cheap, fake, imitating, made in Taiwan rip-offs that you bought off the back of that truck. An amalgamation of sycophantic "yes-men" installed in a position to churn out a near carbon copy of a product year in, year out in a bid to mislead investors and keep Activisions billionaires on the gravy-train with a game that is less than deserving of it's once rich history.

So next time, you shout "troll" at someone or rubbish someone elses opinion that may or may not conform to mainstream attitudes or trends, keep in mind that there is a lot of politics at work on the internet. Most things are not what they seem and more often than not, you are manipulated, even when you're not aware you are.

To those that are enjoying the game, I hope you have a great time. Gaming is awesome no matter what you're playing. It doesn't matter what you find enjoyable, as long as you do...because at the end of the day, isn't that why we're here? And to those that miss the old days of Call of Duty, I've a feeling there are a lot of great, honest people out there already well underway in bringing us that next big thing. ;)

    Thanks. :)

    Welcome Older Gamer! :D

@Magill - I'm all for a new WW2 game. World at War was by far my favourite Call of Duty.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,846 ✭✭✭Jet Black

I caved and picked it up. I was in tesco and it was sitting beside battlefield 4. Had both them in my hand but I didn't really play bf3 that much so got ghosts.

I have to say its not the worst cod I've played. Comparing to others its either 2nd or third worst.
Positives: It's playable which is nice for a launch cod title.
Sound is pretty good. You can make out where someone is coming from.
Maps are nice and open not all closed and confined.
Connection seems good, when I die its not completely based on connection.
Could only break even in TDM and barely get 8 kills coming last but back to about 20+ kills on top.
I like the new game modes.

There's plenty of negatives and all of my positives have bad points too before people start point them out, but I've been saying it for years on here and they've never been fixed..

I'm enjoying it so far for what it is. It's in no was a great game or even a good one and like the majority of CoDs is broken but its nice to have it just for some mindless fun now and again.

played it and finished it today, basically the same thing as the last two or three cods, sneaking up and slashing someone's throat, breaching doors,**** loads of helicopters shooting at you, and the usual adversary who is held captive but miraculously gets away.some things were good in it
