There's a planning application on the window of the former O'Neill's opposite Carrig Don seeking to change the use from retail to coffee shop.

South 51 all painted up and work going on in there. Heard its going to be a restaurant. Scaffolding up outside the wool shop, its a big space that extends way back. Also planning permission sought on the chemical afflictions premises across from Simons place... plans to knock down the building and construct a new two story premises for retail.

Doubt it. Was in there today and they were in the middle of re-arranging everything again. The electrical stuff is down at the bottom of the store, with cd's now along the left hand side after the counter.

Still no decision? It will reflect very badly on Wexford if this does not happen.

New shop looks good and very busy over the weekend. There was actually a queue waiting for it to open on Sunday. Great to see such a well known and established shop opening in Wexford. TK Max due to open in March according to reports....hopefully more to come.

It'll last alright - there is enough money around and plenty of it passing that roundabout to/from rosslare all year round.

All new retail outlets in Wexford get a fantastic initial splurge. Look at Mickey D's, KFC, Homestore & More, Mr. Price etc. It will b the same with TK Maxx

There aren't enough people in the area to support everyone. For each new business opening, someone is going to close. Natural selection I suppose

No doubt some will be affected more than others and some will close (no loss in some cases) to make way for the new but the customer is the winner because the likes of Meadows and Byrne and Home Store and More are great additions to the town. A bit of competition is great for bringing up the standards.

People said Tesco was great for the time at the time but on reflection when you look at the amount of business that closed on the South Main Street it really destroyed allot of business and livelyhoods.

True but we have to move with the times and adapt. Some of the business that will be affected by Meadows and Byrne etc have been sitting on their hands for years while they had it handy running second rate busineses with no competition...its time to step up to the plate.

Im curious as to what business's suffered on Sth Main St from Tescos opening?

South Main St is and was basically full of food outlets, pubs, entertainment centres and auctioneers none of which loses business to tesco!

Easy access & free parking, combined with cover from adverse weather, that's what these bigger shops offer that small town shops can't

How about every local business in Lowneys Mall that had been operating for a long time some since at least the 80s that had to close due to Tesco moving ?
