this is a long one so bear with me, a few years ago we had a problem with neighbours dog chasing heifers, we got dog warden and guards involved and shot the dog on sight on my land. This morning 3 of my heifers where in this neighbours garden, fence is like fort knox and no visible sign of where they got out. There are 2 houses close together, this lad has 1 and his ex wife the other... the cattle went from one garden to the other with a fecking jack russell biting their heels:mad: now initially the dog owner said dont worry about the damage but his ex wife was fairly pussy... i said we would fix it up. Rang a lad he will fix it up at weekend will also ring insurance company. Anyway when i got home a neighbour rang to say the jack russel had been after my cattle this last few days:eek: i know one day last week the cattle where very nervous when i went to check them... so what will i do? i am very annoyed, oh says say nothing and fix it up...

Warn the owner that the dog will be shot on sight next time it is worrying your cattle as is your right under the law. That usually puts an end to such nonsense.

Under no circumstances touch his lawn. Ring your insurer first and let them deal with it.

On the dog thing we had a similar problem and mentioned to neighbour that we would shoot dog. All well for a while till her two boxers killed a calf. I didn't have to shoot them, her husband did and paid me in full

Had a heifer calf down to a HMY today also, the 1st heifer to calf to a FR in many years here, my dad avoids it because he had problems before with difficult calvings. I put afew incalf to FR last year, mostly bigger ones with good EBIs/production. Took alot of convincing him! Anyways she calved not a bother herself, calf up and sucking this morning when I got up, only problem is its a bull, and typical my dad 1st comment was "would have been better off with an angus" ha! Ya can't win!

17days is very early, was she AI'd more than once, I'd guess it was from an earlier serve?

organise through your insurance to have it fixed, but let them know that you are aware the dogs have been chasing the cattle and if it happens again there will be consequences

Ah, there's a pair of them in it then. Stick the boot in, he should know better from the last time. Living in the country brings it's own responsibilities.

that should be going on the dog owners insurance as the house dog is covered under home insurance. maybe your insurance company will recoup it this way anyway

what the worst scenario would be if ye where broke up and still living in the same house, i'd say that would be fairly toxic

Let it be a lesson to everyone. Kids should be moved out of the house at maximum 21 and made stand on their own two feet. "Mammy" ruined many's a happy marriage without intention.

Saw "how I live now" last night. I have to say Saoirse Ronan is a class actress. Well worth seeing and I'm glad I knew nothing about it before hand.

would you not be able to push up numbers quicker if ye were to put the heifers incalf? And your ebi would go up alot quicker. We've never had problems with heifers now i must say. Nope just served the once. My fatjer wont here of an angus in a heifer at all. We were puttin AA into anything calving from mid march on and a heifer came bulling and he put an FR into her. That just defeats the purpose ha
