Not living on campus. Worried I won't get to know anybody and therefore will miss out on potential house parties. First world problems!

Do not feel worried or nervous about making friends, everyone feels like that at the start. You will find it is real easy to make friends. Start talking randomly to people during Orientation week, then during Freshers' week talk to people in your class. Clubs and Societies are great ways of making friends as well, as you will find loads of people with the same interest.

Hey can anyone tell me what's the story with fees? I applied for the grant but I don't know if I have got it yet (should though) so do I pay the 100 online or wait until registration? Also what letter do you bring to show them you applied for grant but still waiting for confirmation on its approval ?

Pay the levy and bring anything that you have to show that you have applied for the grant. That should be sufficient.

The best partys are always off campus. Don't worry.

The only party (with alcohol) I ever went to in Maynooth was on-campus. :(

Can anyone help me out? :D

It's prob been asked before tho. So my SUSI documents are still be processed and I still prob won't know by the time registration comes round if I got it yet or anything, so that gives me the option of just paying the €100 student levy until the grant gets back to me..
Can anyone tell me if I pay this levy online where the €2500 is paid or do I pay it in person at registration?

    Thankssssss :D

Manic2, weren't you the person on the LC off-topic forum who was planning on doing Science Ed in Maynooth but changed your mind? :p Have you been in Maynooth all this time?

    That is me! :D

And I repeated the LC last year and got into Science Ed this year! ;)

Repeating was the best decision of my life :P

Oh fantastic! :D That's great news. Well I'm going into my second year of Science Ed so if you ever have any questions just ask me!

    Ah brilliant! :)
I've been on the campus a few times last year visiting friends and I've gotten myself fairly used to Roost at this stage :D
I don't think I have too many since I know a girl who did general science last year and she's kept me pretty well informed about everything. I'm just mad to get moved into the house and just get started really! Hoping the labs and tutorials are all kept away from Friday so I can have it off! :D

Do you drop one of the subjects after 1st year and if so which did you drop?

You drop two :) I dropped Maths & Physics. The vast majority of the class seem to be doing Maths & Biology while just a few of us are doing Biology & Chemistry. From what I know, there's only 2 doing physics.

Oh 2 I never realised that! Well thinking of job prospects I was thinking Biology & Maths since Biology is the main reason I'm doing the course and I thought it'd make more sense since it would allow me to do Biology & Maths at LC and Science & Maths at JC as opposed to just Science at JC if I drop Maths. Yano? :P

I'd say 70% of the course are doing Biology & Maths. It's so popular and probably the better combo for jobs. I don't want to be negative about Biology before you even start but don't expect too much from it. First year labs are a bit chaotic

When I was reading the handbook I came across a part that said make sure you pick the modules you want to do. I'm doing Arts and trying to make a timetable there is only the option of 2 modules per subject, does that mean these are all that are running and I select both?

Yea, for most first year modules you won't have any choices.

If you've already paid I'd say you're grand, I think it was sent to everyone regardless of if theyve paid or not :)
