He doesn't say too much about the new show in today's interview in the Times.

It will be interesting to see how Pat Kenny starts out at Newstalk. It nearly always take anyone starting on a new station months to settle in and find their rhythm. You can't just cut and paste a show from one station to another, there are always teething problems.

Given the huge profile of PK and the publicity surrounding the move, expectations will be unreasonably high. Hopefully he will get off to a solid start.

Will the usual Pat Kenny listeners put up with Newstalks very long ad breaks.

Dont know what to do tomorrow... Bit worried from the ad that they are going to try to give Pat a personality driven show, and not just move his Radio One show to a different station..

Kind of wondering what RTE are going to do with Sean O'Rourke as well.. Do they just get him to do the exact same show as Pat did... Will the first half hour be the topical part of the show? Will Paddy O'Gorman, Valerie "Dustbin" Cox, Tina Leonard, MLOD, all have their same slots? Will the banjo still be the show's preferred instrument?

Yes, these are interesting times, Jonathan ... It's a relatively quiet time for news at the moment (in Ireland anyway), and Pat thrives when there is a big story to cover.

I wouldn't put it past Denis O'Brien to engineer a big story for Pat's debut, a bit like Murdoch the entirely ficticious media mogul did when he launched his TV Network in Tomorrow Never Dies.

PS Tina Leonard left the 'Today' programme last week, she's going to work for the Alzheimers Society as an advocate.

I'm so excited, Skid, I'm thinking of staying up all night ... same as I did the night I found out that Santa Claus didnt exist (or was not punctual)..

I'd say Ronan Collins is rummaging through the collection looking for his very best records tonight.. :P

2 and a half hours of Pat Kenny. Good luck to anyone that listens to that.

The big story for Kenny tomorrow is er Ivan Yates and his bankruptcy hell and redemption :)

Lol - yeah, all the usual intensive preparation from Ronan. It would have been Billy Preston's Birthday tomorrow so he'll almost certainly play Let it Be. And also the Keyboard player from Toto, so we might get Africa.

I don't remember two high profile new shows going head to head like this on Irish Radio. When Ian Dempsey left 2FM he was put on gardening leave for months before he went on air. In a way, it's a shame the Sean and Pat are on at the same time, but I think it was a smart move by RTE to replace Pat with another heavyweight.

Eh, no. Pat is the best current affairs presenter in the business.

Wouldn't it make more sense for Newstalk to start Pat's show before 10 am - 9 to 12 or 9.30 to 12.

I for one wish her well in her new post. I am thankful she has left her old one.

You're 100 percent correct. Putting Pat on at say 9.30 would give him the head start he will need. Whoever is presenting on Radio 1 between 9 and 10 will have something very lightweight to deal with at times. A certain section of the audience would switch over if Pat were available.

I would say he's up there but there are some that can compete. Sean would be one of them. Pat's weak points are popular culture and certain topics that really get under his skin. Criticism of engineers at times and the that old chestnut of Astrology which he can't leave go, even mentioned it on the Irish Times again.

Bizarrely he's good at the hard questions but he tends to drop the low hanging fruit.

Pat's first guest will be Ivan Yates, he is returning to the Newstalk breakfast show :).

I'll be splitting my ears to review @patkennynt and @TodaySOR for @RTEMorningEdit. Back on the telly around 10.50 with the verdict.
