Direct Flights to Beijing and beyond

Could this lead to the future possibility of direct flights to china and the far east. I know there is some talk of the runways at Dublin being to short but by sounds if this a direct link is on the cards sooner rather than later although could be just talk.

It's roughly the same distance in a straight line from Dublin to Beijing as it is from Dublin to San Francisco.

Whether the actual routes/distance flown, predicted loads and aircraft available make it an attractive proposition will be a bit more complicated to work out.

Ah, but I'm sure Shannon's twinned with somewhere else in China like Urumqi or Kashgar.
