Getting red-carded is not the most noble thing in the world but circumstances differ. The two matches you gave an example of are very differnt imo. Evans was bad judgement and Vidics was frustration and sometimes fans applaud the player because he is part of the team and not the action. Its still showing support for the club.

Ole's red card was when the game was tied at 1-1 and is was very late in the match and in the season so a goal either way would decide it. We were losing the title race to Arsenal and it was a must win match. The draw was not enough and as much as I agree 99% of the time that you should win fair or not at all and deliberate fouls are bad sportsmanship but I also agree that desperate times call for desperate measures.

Some fans saw it as Ole putting team first and sacrafising himself and maybe even admiration for the way in which he managed to catch Rob Lee. Given what we know of the player he was not dirty so for me his red-card had more heart to it than those two examples and other dirty red-cards you see.

He knew he would walk and turned his back even before the card came out. Professionally he knew the consequences and committed a professional foul. He knew the cost another goal would have on our chances and the cost of the foul and did it anyway. I would not say its his worst moment in a UTD shirt and can understand the applause.

    Love Ole!

I love how when Becks comes over ye can see Ole saying "I had to"

So Eikrem was a weak link in the side it seems? Got rid of him then they improve..

Exactly. There was absolutely no shame in getting sent off there. The last thing Ole wanted to do was to ever get sent off but he made a professional decision there. Club first.

Was there a Boards.ie when we signed Ole?

Can you imagine the meltdown when we signed an unknown Norwegian striker instead of Batigol or Romario or whoever.....

Both comments were a bit of a tongue in cheek presumption. I doubt too much that their form either way has a lot to do with him but i don't really know as i haven't been following them.

Have we been 'in for' half of the names touted on here?

Forget the goal at the Nou-camp, for me this is his finest moment in a UTD jersey.
well considering that about 70,000 people clapped him off the pitch, i would think many people would agree with you.

The logic here is absolutely mind-boggling.

70,000 people clap and cheer when United score a goal. Is each one United's finest moment ever?

The specific names mentioned are an irrelevence to the point I am making, they were just 2 of the top strikers in the world at the time whos names popped into my head, even though we were indeed heavily linked with Batigol.

    Diferent times though.

United were just becoming a big club back then rather then being a big club now.

We had a history, but we had not won a league in 26 years only few years previous.

English football was still suffering the effect that Hysel disaster and following ban after also.

English football was barely in top 5 leagues in Europe back then

Monaco Director of football basically saying they were offered Nani but as of yet have not acted on it and don't plan to unless circumstances change.
Monaco sporting director Vadim Vasilyev claims the club have been offered the chance to sign Manchester United winger Nani.

The Portugal international's future at Old Trafford remains in doubt following the arrival of new manager David Moyes.

Nani has a year left to run on his current deal and the big-spending French outfit could offer him a lucrative move to the principality.

Claudio Ranieri has already splashed the cash by acquiring the likes of Radamel Falcao, James Rodriguez, Joao Moutinho, Eric Abidal and Jeremy Toulalan.

And Vasilyev has not ruled out a bid for the 26-year-old towards the end of the summer transfer window.

"He has been proposed to us," Vasilyev told French newspaper L'Equipe. "He is a very good player, but there have been no talks so far.

"We have already changed our group quite a bit and we also want to offer opportunities to our young players.

"We still have time to make a few alterations before the end of the transfer window, if needed."

i hope the likes of RVP and Rio dont have to play later to "please the sponsors" as Moyes was saying yesterday.

I thought I heard Carrick was injured/not fit last week. Seems a bit strange to play him today.

They know better than us though.
