Great day here today. Mowed and windowed second cut or rather what wasn't grazed of it.
Pit stripped. Great excitement here this morning eldest young lad brought his first bale from the stack to the shed on his own. I didn't think I knew as many prayers while he was doing it. He was made up.
Would have liked it a bit sunnier.

With all ye're talk of Bulmers I tried my first last week, now calling to the pub every evening on way home. In fact it was a warm day wasn't it??

There'd but one hell of a write up on the IFJ after that walk. I think I've led a sheltered life after reading that.

There's turf and there's turf, and there's creels and there's creels. I'd guess 4 tonne.

Parted ways with my subsoiler tonight after several Donedeal induced phone therapy sessions. Had tried to trade it with a dealer for a mole plough, but he would oonly allow me 100 euro for it. He laughed at me when I said I'd hold out and sell it myself saying that it was only scrap value. He won't be laughing when I wave the check for more than 10 times what he offered me infront of his face tomorrow and tell him that I can get a better straight deal elsewhere.

    Reilig 1 - 0 Dealer

Around E400 delivered. (10-15 miles) But like Bizzum said there's turf and there's turf. I'm putting in a back boiler stove replacing the open fire and while I have timber, I could do with some turf.

Turf's a good idea... It'll keep things from getting hot and then you have the "fun" of carrying in the turf and back out 5 times the volume of ash after its burnt.. :p

Spend your €400 on another load of timber and have proper heat in the winter :D

I gave 250 for a 10x6 load and I thought that was dear

I've had turf at home that would give coal a run for it's money. If it's heat ya want it's hard to beat good turf, well saved, preferably a season old.
Maybe it just the bogman breaking out in me. Old habits and all that....

With all the talk of turf, heard my mum speaking about 'an offer on in Bord na Mona' (littleton) presently for loose briquettes, I wasn't really listening to her as I didn't want the job of bagging it when she brought it home, herself & dad went for a load on Friday & her friend borrowed our trailer yesterday to go for another load

one thing about turf you get plenty of excerise, drawing it in and drawing out the ashes, :D

And with much of it the exercise is the only way you'd get warm too..

When we were young there would be loads of turf got each year, it was all duff as far as I'm concerned.. I've never seen this "good" turf people talk about.. for me there is nothing like a good timber fire.. I'd even go as far as saying that seasoned fir would be better than most turf.

    lads & lassies

when i first entered Reps 4 IN 08 My teagasc advisor filled out my Reps application and lodged same, He made a mistake which cost me approx 400 euro in a penalty, It was supposed to have been appealed, but I have never once heard anything from Teagasc about it. This is my Final year in Reps and I have been reluctant to pay Teagasc this years fee until they sort something out. The flip side is that I have never had an inspection and if they go chasing dept now will this draw attention to my file,
I still think TEAGASC should be accountable for their error and offer some compensation

    any comments

    1) If you appeal now, is there a link between this and an inspection? Is this just fear / speculation, or is the likelihood of an inspection higher if you do make an appeal?

    2) If they do inspect, how confident are you that you would be ok?

    3) If it is appealed (regardless of an inspection or not) whats the best outcome? Surely the dept, will say "yeah, plan was wrong to start with" Will Teagasc give you the 400 then?
(As the appeal would be with the Dept, I am not sure what this would mean for Teagasc? )

Do you have it in writing that they were supposed to appeal?
If so - send em back a copy of the letter, and ask them whats the status of the appeal?
State if no appeal has been lodged to date, don't create a request now, as you feel so much time has passed, but as you are down 400 euro due to a Teagasc error, and they have failed to rectify even though they said they would, you expect this to be reflected in your bill.

If you don't get an answer you are happy with, then leave Teagasc and find someone else. (or you could just leave them now, and cut your losses)

    Best of luck...

Don't rock the boat I did and I'm still trying to get payments. Even though teagasc were completely wrong.

I am pretty sure I would pass a test, some minor tidying up but should be ok
Their is no direct link between an appeal and an inspection but I believe in letting sleeping dogs lie,
i was told back in 09 that an appeal was lodged, although I never seen a copy of the letter

I have a letter drafted to Teagasc asking, (1. whats the status with appeal, 2. stating I dont want dept involved now, 3. stating that they should compensate me due to their error). I just have not posted the letter until I heard peoples comments.

I am in BTAP which is Teagasc run so I cant up sticks until next year

Have to replace a drinker and the main that its on is very slow - often only filling at night. So the idea of a round 100 / 150 / 200 gal drinker appeals to me. Did people here say in the past that there is an issue with these type of drinker? I'm looking at a JFC or a concrete one.

Anyone got an approximate idea on the price of one of them?
