I wish! A rather small 1.8..... :pac:
A lazy day up here, just trial and error
First, source a suitable silicone pipe and pikey it to suit the oil return
The olde XUD on a pallet....
Glow plugs out, needed to clear the chambers of any fluids....
Once that's done, gearbox off!
And a seriously crappy clutch is unveiled :pac:
Glow plugs seemed ok so back they went
Original thermostat gets the bin :rolleyes:

Just trial and error..... But the oil feed pipe is on
Standard K14 line and all just bent slightly to fit
I also wasn't happy with my return pipe so I pikeyed in a Fiesta thermo hose. Much better fit :cool:
Cleaned up the engine some more

So I was having massive power lag in the RX8 at around 4 and 7k. So I talked to a dublin based rx8 guru and he said get a decatted midpipe so thats where I was this morning.
So this afternoon i took the midpipe out:
A bit blocked eh...
Anyway heres the old and new against each other:
Only issue was that the clamps and springs supplied with the midpipe don't seem to suit my catback as the springs were too short. The Original springs look spurious to me (in yellow). Also the pitch of the bolts and my original (flanged) nuts were different and I needed those to hold the larger diameter springs:
Anyway a couple of washers sorted that:
Apart from that no issues at all. The car is a different beast. It has a deep rasp and the car is much quicker to rev. It pops and bangs all the time and smells like f**k. Feels more torquey then when I got it too. I'm chuffed with it to be honest.0 -

So I picked up a new left tail light and some floor mats for cheaps
As you can see the drivers mat is a bit worse for wear but I have a Blue Peter plan for that
Needed some cleaning. Had to scrub them out three time to get them as clean as I wanted:o I then dried them with the trusty Lidl wet vac.
Next for the tail light. I needed to replace the one on the car as one of the bolts that holds it on broke off so I had to use tape to hold it on for the last few months. I was hoping to use the lens of my light because it is in much better condition but it is bonded to the back so I'll have to make do with the new one.
You have to be careful with the black lines on the lights as they can be polished off very easily.

In the turf shed is a corner full of Mk2 Cortina parts, undisturbed since the mid 70s.....
Sure you see our bench in some of the pics, there's a very battered tool chest resting there since the 70s.... In the other turf shed are paints in a cupboard there since the early 50s :pac:

We do have one shed with a loft that I've never been in but it's full of things that the previous owner of the house had. From the lower level you can see that there is a few cinema type chairs up there

We have a shed like that too, been here before the house apparently, found an empty bottle from 1850 in it one day, some mechanic owned it, so I'm sure I'll find more fun things!0 -

So I had to make a flange adapter (giggity)
I'd prefer a similar setup to what was on the Merc and will do so in due time

And I got it welded up, more on that later
Meanwhile, I decided to fiddle with the dynamic advance on the frankenpump :cool:
For those with some sort of interest or those wondering what I'm sh*tting on about this time, here's a self explanatory diagram
As revs climb, fuel gets pressurised into the chamber more, the piston moves over, advancing when diesel gets injected into the chambers. Shims in the timing piston chamber control how far and advanced the timing can go. XUD shims are 0.8mm thick
Yet banana Transits have shims 0.6mm thick
The result is even better response with full boot and a slight increase in economy as a side effect 0 -

dgt do you have flash on on your iphone? If so turn it off.
Theres also a focus setup that focus's the photo by tapping the screen for a couple of seconds. Theres no reason why those photos should be so grainy in even in the current light.
And if its neither of them, is your lens dirty?0 -

Nope not i-phoney, nokia e5 I'm just a lazy sh*te that never turns the flash off..... It may be scratched too as it has been hopped off the ground a few times!

I thought you had one.
turn flash off and see if it makes a difference. Even in a poor light outside , my photos regularly come out better without flash than with, unless there of people.0
