Hi all,
Vanilla are planning an update to the site on April 24th (next Wednesday). It is a major PHP8 update which is expected to boost performance across the site. The site will be down from 7pm and it is expected to take about an hour to complete. We appreciate your patience during the update.

Reversing and the odometer

    Random question, but when you reverse does it increase the odometer?

    Any modern car with an electrically driven speedo will increase the odo reading in reverse.

    The speedometer in my car has stopped working intermittently and the odometer doesnt count the miles when this happens. I'm inadvertantly clocking my own car every day...pity its worth very little!!!

    It's a 99 Daewoo with the way they're built I wouldn't be surprised if it rolled back the miles!

    Make sure she's topped up with reversing fluid before any prolonged reversing.

    An odometer will still count while driving in reverse but only slightly. That’s because only a very skilled driver will be able to drive long distances in reverse. As such, the miles counted in your odometer when you are going in reverse form only a tiny part of your car’s total mileage.
