I have unblock us on my router so when I wanted a link I got the US ones with the price in dollars, suppose its just a dynamic link that changes depending where your coming from as Flubit had no probs using it.
Ah yeah, I used to use Unblock-us for Netflix. It's the same URI regardless, I reckon, but I remember Unblock-us used to give me the US Play Store when I used it, also; it doesn't just affect Netflix.

It's funny, it does give me the US play store on the web but on the phones/tablets it's the Euro one so I'm happy to use it.

It's possible that the Play Store app determines your location using a different method. I haven't tested it myself as I didn't put the Unblock-us DNS into my router, but rather just into my PC's TCP/IP IPv4 configuration, since I was only using it for Netflix on my PC.

The only problem is if you buy an app on the PC using the US Play Store, your bank may add some small fees to the transaction for the conversion from Dollars to Euros. It happened to me when I bought an app last week while mine was still displaying UK content and prices in Pounds. That's mainly why I wanted to change it back ASAP after my orders failed.

+1 for Flubit. You'll get it if you use them, people already have on here. Mine's on order with them currently.

As for Google taking your money, they don't take anything until they ship the product. If that hasn't happened, which is likely since they'd hardly cancel the order after shipment (would they?!), all they've done is put a hold on your account for the funds and you'll see the release take effect within a week or so. Two of my orders got cancelled when done through Google and my bank hasn't shown the money as available yet and it's been nearly a week. But they haven't taken the money, because why the money is not available, it hasn't been subtracted from my balance either.

Had them create an offer for me a couple of days ago......was coming in with a saving of about 12 euro ahead of a reputable seller on amazon...but that sellers price was imo still unacceptably ahead of what google play themselves were charging (and probably the google play ones would be updated)

ah I dont know....its been such a struggle for me to give google my money I'm not sure I want to anymore + I'm not what you would call a power user...more a poser user:D

Think I would prefer the android, especially the nexus 4 given as its android the way it was meant to be.....but I think ill deal with the workarounds and get the iphone5......its just less hassle.....

I just dont think I should have to beg or struggle to give my money to any company no matter what the product - they should be begging me, lets just say it goes against my principles:pac:

Hold on one second! You Flubited an Amazon link? Ah here, give them the Google Play link to the device (look a few posts up, I posted the links last night). You'll get a bigger reduction and pay less than on Google Play. I saved ~£12 on my order, so it amounted to ~£236 including the £9.99 shipping.

Stick with Android. I'll give you a gold star if you do and a smite if you don't. :P

Seriously, Flubit the Google Play links. We're all doing it, it's the new thing now! :)

the money has been debited from my account and they are definitely not going to ship the thing according to themselves

as in the full amount is gone.........gone gone gone - thats why I was fairly confident they were going to ship the thing to me

should I be worried I wonder? ...maybe they have actually cancelled the order after shipment....one department may not be up to date with the other?

will keep ye updated re situation in any event

Do and keep on at them for a refund if the money is definitely taken and don't let them email you with this crap:

"I'm so glad you contacted us here today. What I want you to do today is this and this. Have a wonderful day!"

I couldn't care less how polite they are as long as they do what's required as quickly as possible. They could be downright rude for all I care as long as sh1t gets done.

Don't worry its not debited, it only appears that way as it's in a shadow account with your bank. Search for my posts in this thread if you like, same happened to me 4-5 times.

They will but keep on at them to expedite the process. You should take note of the links so you'll know what to Flubit once you have the funds back. Since you'll be paying Flubit by PayPal and since they advise Irish customers to use Parcel Motel (they really do), getting the phone is more or less a sure thing.

If that's the case the hold will be released and your account will be back to normal in the next week or so, presumably without the currency exchange difference between the day of your order and the day of your cancellation being a factor since your order and money never went that far. Unless of course you have something on your statement mentioning the transaction. If not, Google don't have your money and there's nothing to worry about.

Ah....tks for the reassurance....ill confess i was a little worried

not that i wouldn't get my money back, just that it would be a gigantic pain in the hole to chase after it.

I have almost zero patience so a couple of phonecalls and one email would qualify as a pain in the hole in my reality mind:D

You should put in your demand now on Flubit, by the time you get an offer, your account might either have its money back in it or you'll be fine with buying it on the strength of knowing it will be there very soon. Plus, you'll have a day or two or three to consider the offer (the length of validity seems to vary).

I did. I don't keep a lot on my phone at any one time. The 16GB one would be good, but I'm on a shoestring budget at the moment so I was happy enough to stick with the 8GB one.

Yep +¹ for Flubit! Got a nexus 4 16gb for €338 all in.
Over the moon with it too.

No questions asked, just demand a deal, PayPal, delevery to NI and your done.

Had to email them twice and they were very quick to respond and help me out both times.
Will be using them more often for sure and not forgetting when a Nexus 5 comes out.

Anyone go from an s3 to this?
    Is it a backwards step?

Thanks to a member here, I picked up this phone during the week. He had ended up getting 2 as he had placed a second order presuming his first was cancelled. The phone was sealed and he also gave me the delivery docket with it.

I have used the phone for 3 days and it's just not for me. I've come from an iPhone and I just don't like Android unfortunately. As i've said, i've only used the phone for 3 days so it is in brand new condition. I've now put my sim back in my iPhone and i'm looking to sell the Nexus for what I paid for it. If anybody is interested, let me know.

I know this is slightly against the forum rules, so if the mods want me to remove it, that is no problem. I just thought i'd stick it up in here for members who are having a hard time getting their hands on this phone as the member who sold the phone to me did a good deed and didn't try sell it for a profit on Adverts like a lot of people, I thought I would pass on the good karma :)

    Yep I have a S3!

OK the hardest part to get use to is its an LCD screen just not an AMOLED... so colurs are not in your face punchy and black levels are, well LCD type blacks so if that's your consern then you may want to get a look at one before putting your money down. It taken me a few days to get my eyes back in check after looking at Sammy's screens for a few years.
Also the post pictures work done by the S3 can makes those pics pop and wow so as the Nexus doesent do this to the same level it can make you less impressed... But a third party app can overcome this shortfall.

(nexus screen is a hell of a lot brighter than the S3 btw, have a look at my pics taking in my car on a bright morning a few pages ago to see how dim and pinkish the S3 screen really is) The Nexus is like a rocket ship (even formatted both phones to compare speeds) the nexus is just a hell of a lot slicker at everything it does than the S3. Now I understand that some games run better on the S3 but any I've tried were just the same. Also some benchmarks suggest the S3 is faster but i can't see how that is as I am testing them both side by side and the S3 is falling behind in almost all day to day stuff like opening apps and loading webpages.

Over everything its the lack of stutter in the Nexus and andriod 4.2.2 within moments of starting it up that wins me over. As cool as the S3 is I can't do a simple pull down without seeing a few FPS drop as the OS used all the RAM doing something. Loving the fact that I see 1.4gig of ram still waiting to be used at the end of the day as the S3 shows only 100mb or so dispite only running Samsung background stuff.

Just to add something to your comments of praise to help maybe, along with what you said, put the Nexus on a pedestal.

The Adreno 320 GPU is better than the Mali-400MP found in the S III. It's even said to outdo Tegra 3. But I've heard that not all games are optimized for it, at least not yet. If you're looking for something future-proof, the Nexus 4 will probably win in the end when compared to the S III. Also, the Snapdragon Krait is leaps ahead of the S III's Cortex-A9. The Krait is said to have similarities with the Cortex-A15, which is what the iPhone 5 has (Apple A6), only the iPhone 5 has a 1.3GHz dual-core compared to the Nexus 4's 1.5GHz quad-core (with overclocking potential if you use a supported custom kernel!).

Benchmarks smenchmarks. If you're talking about Quadrant, god's toy, don't worry about it. Quadrant is a pile of steaming horse burgers! It received its last update in June, 2012. I saw a video on YouTube where the Nexus won in basically all the popular benchmarks (Geekbench, AnTuTu, GLBenchmark) bar Quadrant. When Ice Cream Sandwich came out in 2011, it took the developers of Quadrant well into 2012 to come out with a version that would treat the newest Android version with some respect as ICS scores on the more recent Quadrant release (during the Gingerbread era) were not consistent with the devices' true performances. Their updates are infrequent across the board and it's probably the least reliable benchmark of them all.

    EDIT: Just one more thing...

I am not sure that the S III's stock firmware (and TouchWiz) takes advantage of Project Butter, which is something Google introduced in Jelly Bean (4.1). Project Butter's aim was to finally, once and for all, kill the "Lagdroid" nickname that previous versions of Android had earned, due to even top-of-the-range devices appearing to lag through swiping and animations/transitions. The meat and potatoes of it is to limit the FPS (like Vsync) to 60 so that all swiping and animations/transitions would be consistently fast and prevent the phone from trying to render more frames than it can, causing it to stumble or lag, or in another but similar scenario, prevent it from doing part of the animation too fast and then slowing down near the end so not to complete it too quickly, thus giving the impression of lag. Triple Buffering is also part of the Project Butter line-up, a feature I've always enabled in my PC's GPU driver control panel (specific to OpenGL and not DirectX). Overall, Project Butter is boss and god's toy has already confirmed the real-world benefits of it. Again, whether the S III's stock UX takes advantage of it or not, I'm not 100% sure, but the Nexus 4 is smoother regardless (it could be all down to the hardware!).

I really can't justify spending that kind of money on something I already have (charger!) but I'm considering one of them chargemats....

QI is a standard like WiFi, loads of cheap copies available as well as branded ones.

Any QI mat (or orb in the case of the N4) will work with any QI phone.

Only problem is that PMA may win the battle for wireless charging, its got McDonalds and Starbucks (where your going to use it) onboard and makes hardware rings to plug into your phone.

    powerkiss.jpg

Probably down to whoever Apple supports.

The Google orb takes 4 hours to charge the phone btw, which is awful!
