Ill put it down to Ger not being there, in fairness the start of the show was quite good, they talked about the Ireland match for about 10 minutes and it was quite engaging.

must be down to around 5,000 listeners per night now
based on this thread alone, and some calculations i've been doing myself

I've started listening to audio books for my commute instead of the OTB podcasts

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,411 ✭✭✭cullenswood

Yeah I would have missed very few shows since inception of this through both listening live, and downloading the podcast for the commute every morning. I no longer bother doing this. It's a real shame, but I suppose all good things have to come to an end!

I'm afraid I have to say that the show is just not the same without the lads. Anyone have any idea what they are doing now? Should start a campaign to "Bring back the BOYS".

Turned it on tonight, about half 9 and Roddy Collins was on. Never had a problem with him on before with Eoin but tonight he was on his high horse about the league of ireland, absuing "porfessionals" for being over weight and saying he wouldn't pay to watch them id they arent willing to put in the effort. Not really good radio, no one seem well informed enough to follow the subject on so Roddy kept pressing on about, just got that feeling they where trying to fill time for once.

Roddy is always hard to listen to with his "controversial" opinions.

    What calculations?

Seems everyone has lost out here. The guys who walked away are idle since, OTB seems to have lost its way according to many (I genuinely do not see a massive difference), and Newstalk seemto have lost listeners.

Interview with Giles was good tonight,Ger managed to cut down on his penchant for asking rambling questions.

Thought all that nonsense about the Ewing rule or whatever they were calling it was a bit forced... Like they were trying to recreate the banter that the other pair used to come up with..

I don't like this fluffy new version of Graham Hunter I'm hearing.

I'm hoping himself and Ken have resorted to ringing each other up off-air to talk over one another in an aggravated tone.

I wonder if the lads have considered doing a 'Not Off The Ball' Roadshow somewhere, to keep their profile up?

Rent a premises, charge a few quid in to cover costs, and get a few well known guests to appear (call in some favours). Maybe it wouldn't be possible with the Gardening Leave/ongoing contract negotiations, but it would be nice to be able to show support for them.

The gardening leave is up today, well for four of them at least. If they had something lined up all along I would expect an announcement over the next few days. If not...

It is with great sadness that I bring news of the death of Frank Sadlier. RIP Frank.

I'm pretty sure if they had a Plan B some word of it would have leaked out by now. Hope I'm wrong though...

Murph has been tweeting the same thing.

This is true, but I would still find it very hard to believe that five people would just jack in their jobs like that unless they had been approach by someone else first.

They got short shrift from Giles when they asked him for his opinion on it.

Heard one earlier with Ger and John Giles. Never really listen to today fm, is this a new thing? Ads for newstalk i mean. I know they are sister stations and that, but i've never heard an ad for today fm on newstalk.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 88,968 ✭✭✭✭mike65

Just to add they were cross promoting, so its still on Newstalk!

edit just beaten to it! and yes, that's the first time I've ever heard a show on one promoted on the other. A sign of things to come I'd suggest

No those promo's are only the current stuff taken from the last few weeks, none of the old lads are in them at all.

So, is the gardening leave over tomorrow? Should we expect some news?

It's over for everyone except the main man (Eoin McDevitt has 12 weeks gardening leave iirc - so he has 2 months to go). Surely they won't announce something without him, would they?
