It's about getting the balance right. Continuous CL presence, means Celtic can offer more in terms of wages while remaining within budget.

And Lawwell doesnt budget for UCL until Celtic are in the draw for the group stages.

Yes but Celtic will be automatically in the draw for the Group Stages after a couple of seasons increasing their co-eff by playing in the Group Stages. Might be worth taking a wee gamble in the transfer market if needed at the end of this season for example.

Is that not based on the country co-eff rather than individual clubs?

Can't imagine Scotland's will be doing too well without Dignity FC conquering Europe like the old days :pac:

Lawwell says no! :pac: I wouldnt get too far ahead of ourselves tbh

Celtic arent going to spend big in January despite having money to spend. They'd want to be totally convinced by a player to shell out now. Its the coming summer that we'll see the income of this season's UCL run being spent and most of it will be in the form of not selling a player to service debt tbh. I wouldnt be expecting wholesale changes next summer (no need really, just tweaking and replacing players that want to go) but I expect us to be doing our transfer dealings earlier in the summer unlike the sitting on our hands competition we did last summer until we were in European Competition

The presumption is based on how Celtic performed this season in the CL. If they can maintain that level of performance year in year out over the next few seasons, then I'd imagine they wont have to pre-qualify for the CL anymore.

It's hard to get info on it, I believe Celtic will have to pre qualify next season for example. But if they can qualify for the Group stages again and have another reasonably successful campaign, then surely it will start to have a positive affect on their co-eff.

I meant in terms of sale value. Striker + young + English tax.

I know you were talking about sale value, still think Wanyama would be worth more if sold.

We could easily slip up at the qualifier stages though. It will definitely have a positive impact on Scotland's coefficient if we can make the groups a few years in a row, but it does take a few years for the effect to be seen (in terms of getting back the automatic group stage qualification for the CL for 1st place in the SPL). Also depends on how the countries around us (like Switzerland) are doing.

It's a huge bonus to us though to be in the groups. If we can manage a few years consecutively in the groups, we could be in a very strong financial position at that point. It helps on so many fronts, players wanting to come here and stay here etc., and also deals like the Magners deal being worth what it is. You can be that deal was clinched on the basis that we'd have a European presence of some sort for most/all of the 3 years.

Edit: I presume the first thing that would happen with an increase in coefficient points would be 1 qualifier instead of 2... even that would help. Having a qualifier right at the start of the season is a pain.

    http://www.thescottishsun.co.uk/scotsol/homepage/sport/4741336/Rogic-is-a-steal.html
“I think Rogic is worth the money from what I’ve seen of him, but I would like to have a proper look myself before we decide.

“He came in on Saturday and we want to play him on Tuesday, but we will have clear that with Mariners and have to be careful for insurance reasons and stuff like that.

“But we like the look of him — he is a nice mover with the ball with a good left foot. He is still only 18, but he is tall, quite strong and athletic.

“Reading have been interested but we stole a march on them. The kid is excited about coming so we will see how he does.

“We’re hoping to get him back over to Glasgow for another week.

“I’m going back home on Sunday so won’t have seen him, so it would be good to have a proper look. We want to sign someone who can open teams up a wee bit more.

“We would like to play him on Tuesday, but if that’s not the case it is not a major problem.”

Better not end up losing out by this constant talking up the player.
Miku has not had an impact yet, but it takes time and a bit of adjustment to the Scottish game.

“We have not given up on him, but we have had a conversation and he knows time is running out.

“He wants to be a success here and we want him to be a success too.

“It has been quite frustrating, but I would imagine he will stay until the end of the season.

Miku has been bit of a let down tbh and I dont think he'll be here past the loan agreement.

And it seems that deals for Juan Agedelo and Juwon Oshaniwa are not straightforward as Lennon would like.
“You are always hopeful and optimistic but there are no guarantees.”

Lennon basically tells Green to STFU talking about Celtic. Cant wait for Greens next rant, maybe he'll file a sex discrimination case against Neil Lennon aswell!

That's rich, coming from the club who couldn't help but get a dig in at Rangers in a totally unrelated article (end of the year wishes or something of that sort).

Not to mention the AGM's where Rangers are a general topic :pac:

We are their biggest selling point, hence why Green brings us up at every opportunity. Unfortunately for him he has swiftly become a laughing stock and source of great derision in the footballing world, at least outside of the pathetic sphere that is Scottish journalism.

Not even close, sorry to disappoint you.

I do agree that Green should shut up about Celtic, but for Lennon to come out with that is ironic at best, given his comments about Rangers and possible title stripping during it all.

Maybe he would be better giving the same advice to his own fans ;)

it was a joke! are you sure your not insecure?

you are really clutching at straws tbh. there is a difference between constantly pressed on an issue of rangers at the time. what did lennon say exactly? and what green has been doing? nobody is asking him about celtic but he includes us in every rant. maybe you should look up the transcripts

Was that not a season review, where they were discussing games from last season? Should they have left out some key matches from the season review.

Green is giving almost daily soundbites with references to Celtic. It's surprising that it took so long for someone to answer him back.

    maybe lennon hit a nerve?
its about time he told green to shut his mouth

You'd think Green made bad comments about Celtic, the way Lennon (and some of you) respond to it.

He merely mentioned that Celtic too have been looking for a way out on numerous occasions, which is true.

Gordon Strachan appointed manager of Scotland. He'll do well in that job I reckon, they've got some decent players and should be doing better than they have been doing lately. He will certainly be an improvement on Levein.

Happy for Strachan, he never got the credit he deserved for the job he did at Celtic.

Dunno, but wasn't Strachan in charge of Scotland already?

Nope, was interviewed before and strongly linked with the gig but never got it, a very good appointment I would have thought.

Hopefully he(Strachan)will take no **** from the prima donna's of the Scottish squad.

Congratulations to Gordon Strachan. Delighted for him and he fully deserves to become Scotland coach. He has a tough job ahead of him and I wish him all the best.

Celtic are playing a friendly against Steaua Bucharest tonight and Bangura is starting up front!?!?

    Is his loan over?

Bangura scored in a 2-1 win after we went 1-0 down. 2 goals in three minutes (Sammy got the other) gave us the win.

His loan was up in December.
