Montoya came on for Alves iirc?

3 of them never would have become the players they are if they hadn't left Barca, one of them was even dumped by barca because he was "too short".
That's a bit presumptuous about Cesc, he was never let go by Barca, could easily have went on to be a great player at Barca as well.
Regarding Pique, did he play much for United? 12 league games over 3 seasons according to Wiki, and he was sent on loan for a season.
I take you're point about Alba, but would he be the same player without having gone to La Masia??

Anyway, 8 players that were at Barca all their lives on the field is some achievement, takes a typical anti-Barca comment from you to take away from that.

I think Piques time at Manyoo definitely manned him up somewhat. I have no doubt about it in fact. He may not have played much, but he learned from Vidic and Ferdinand in his position and would have learned from Scholes, Giggs, Neville etc.

Re Fabregas ditto but probably to a lesser degree.

I made a wallpaper style picture of Tello from a match photo on the internet. He is the slickest player in the league.

Brilliant performance on Saturday night against Bilbao. The team seems to be completely re energized, I just hope they can keep at it. As the fixture lists get more packed we might start to dip in form like we have in other seasons. But I guess Tito is trying to kill off the league ASAP.

    Here's the goals btw

On a side note, very impressed with Adriano's form going forward as of late. 2 goals in 2 games, and they were his first starts in 2-3 weeks if I remember correctly. What make's it even better is both goals came from games where he played on opposite wings. Valuable player to have idd but I just hate seeing start the big games (Madrid/champions league knock out phases) because he always gets caught out of position.

And lastly, after saying last week Pique looked to be getting back to form, he goes and scores this weekend, fingers scrossed Piquebauer is back for the Atletico game

Good performance last night especially from Pique and Busquets. I agree with you on Pique looking as if he is close to being back to top form. I thought Busquets was one of the stand out performers last night aswell, he was all over the pitch.

I do like Adriano even though he is'nt the best at defending but last night he did everything well and for a (suppposed) defender he gets his fare share of goals considering the lack of game time he gets. He is probably more dangerous going forward than Dani Alves, he's a great squad player to have.

Messi 28 goals this season already I think..

Barca fans, will he better last seasons total?

Was he awarded the first one from last night or what's the story?

    ^ Yes.

No I personally don't think he will better it, I don't know why and again, he will defy all odd's and probably do it, watch

Yeah Busquets was good, a little casual once or twice in possession but he seems to be trying to force games a bit more than last season given he is often the one that finds himself in that extra yard of space between the lines.

Just wondering who you guys think is suffering the most these days? Pedro seems to be a little hopeless in front of goal at times. He is always busy doing some thing but just doesn't seem to be having much luck netting the ball.

Edit: Worth mentioning Cesc is providing and scoring fairly regularly, Tito seems to be able to fit him in much more easily than Pep did.

Yes and no. The referee did, UEFA did but Marca didnt. And marca are the ones who count goals for the pichichi (top scorer or golden ball in spain)

I actually meant to mention Pedro in my above post but forgot to do it, he was pretty poor against Bilbao. His touch was bad at times and he managed to lose the ball more often than not. He use to be able to take one touch and take a shot on goal and hit the target when inside the box but lately he seems to be more hesitant to go for goal than what he use to be, he seems to be over thinking alot of the time when he recieves the ball.

David Villa - not being allowed to complete a whole League game 90mins.
The man is amazing, and scoring pretty regularly when he gets some gametime.

Are you joking ? He winds me up the most of any Barca player at present.
I know he's young and will only improve, but he just does the same thing 80% of the time.
Run to the byline - maybe do a stepover or two, possibly boot the ball into the side netting of the near post. He drives me MAD

It must be hard indeed for David Villa, truth be told on form he should be starting ahead of Pedro but maybe Tito doesn't want to overuse him too soon and risk aggravating his injury because lets be fair he was out for what felt like a life time! :(

I do hope he starts more games soon, and i'd even like to see him play one or two games through the middle because in last weeks copa he reminded us all what he can do in and around the box :pac:

Edit: to elaborate I feel that having him shifted out wide is kind of taking away from his strongest point, yes it has worked, and will work but Messi doesn't have to start 100% of games upfront. While i'm typing this I just remembered Villa's first Classico and the brace he got playing as the furthest forward player.

what chance does messi have of getting 100 goals in a year lads?

I'd say he'll just fall short

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 15,173 ✭✭✭✭kmart6

I'd be surprised if he got more than 92!

"Mascherano, Iniesta, Xavi, Pedro, Alba and Cesc not in the squad to face Benfica." :(:(

Can any of you tell me how you'd expect to line up?

Is Puyol back? A back 4 of ??? - Puyol - Pique - Alves with Sanchez, Messi and Villa up front wouldn't be too bad I suppose. Who would play in midfield? Song...?

The last time Messi was too short they pumped him full of drugs to sort it out :pac:

Unlikely. He will only get around 88!

Tonights line up at a guess

    Valdes
    Montoya...Puyol...Pique....Barta
    ..........Song.........
    Sergi Roberto.........Adriano
    Tello....Messi.....Villa

Not a bad side by any means. Kind of hope Valdes doesn't start just to rest him and allow others a chance.

That really doesn't fill me (Celtic fan) with confidence.

We beat, and nearly took a point from a much better Barca side than that, who had it all to play for.

I (neutral) watched an arguably weaker than that Barca "B" side play in the UCL last year, I think you should be a bit more optimistic. They're still a good team and the problem Barca had against you guys was they had too much of the ball. Barca are the best counter attacking team bar none. Just that so few of their goals actually come from counter attacks because as far as counter attacks in a game are concerned they're mostly the team defending counter attacks.

Yup, if there's any space in that final third, even briefly Barca score. What teams like Celtic and Chelsea do is sit as deep as possible and eliminate as much of that space as possible. Both have had succes, but I admire Celtic for it and despise Chelsea lol.

But, the game is tomorrow not tonight xD

Probably because our whole team cost about as much as the yearly wages of one Barca (or Chelsea) player. Also we actually tried to attack :P

Believe me I know, can't stop thinking about it all week. Just heard that team news on Twitter so thought I'd ask here :)

You said it bud, best of luck to Celtic any way, you guys deserve it for your heroics :)

Messi has said Celtic deserve to be in the knockout stages, and that would be quieter without them! http://www.givemefootball.com/champions-league/lionel-messi-inspired-by-amazing-celtic-fans-with-

Also, Benfica's President claimed Barca didn't take Celtic seriously. Talk about shooting your own team in the foot. . .

Villa for me too, criminally underused. It only really annoys me if Sanchez starts ahead of him. Pedro on the other hand is maybe settling down to his level in terms of converting chances. He had an incredible first couple of seasons, there was no way he could keep that up.

^That team should be more than enough to get a draw at least, then it's up to Celtic. Personally, I'd play Song at centre half instead of Puyol to give him more time there. In fact I'd rather Barca start with 10 men than send the glass of Puyol out.

    What's up with Thiago?

Been very injury prone of late, hope he gets himself together, still waiting for him to have a run of games, at any level. He needs to start getting game time if he wants to be included with Spain imo.

Yeah it would be nice to see Puyol eased into things but he's like a bull on a leash, rearing to go :p

Looks like Messis injury is only a strain so no need t worry it seems.

2 tough games ahead - away to betis, which isn't the happiest of hunting grounds for Barca, then a home game to Atleti who usually up their game for Barca. I would be happy enough with 4 points from the 2 games. Delighted with 6.

I would probably prefer to see a win at Betis if I had to pick one game. It's a while since I remember a win there. There was even the heavy defeat in the Copa Del Rey when the tie was over and Betis were in the 2nd division.

Barca lost a few Scottish friends last night, could have been a lot more had they lost. Really poor attitude to put that joke of a team out. Spartak had even less to play for and still played their strongest team.

Umm, we were through? Why pass up the opportunity to play our young players for a team competing in the same competition that we are. Stupid attitude to have yourself...
