lol, ridiculous newspaper drivel. Lennon is on about 200k. The assistants are on around 100k. McGuinness is a long way down that hierarchy and will be on around 50k max.

To put it in perspective, Man City offer around 70k for the same role.

I think that's because you are one of those people who thinks 'ultra' means hooligan.

I doubt Lennon is getting paid that little for that level of responsibility tbh

Neil Lennon on less than 4K a Week , You are talking nonsense , FFS He was earning almost 10 times that as a player in the MON day's

Johan Mjalby on £2K/week , He would hardly move his family to earn less that 10% of his Playing Salary , I don't think so.

BTW Some League Of Ireland Players were Reportedly earning 4/5k a week a few years back ,

50k a year for five years, Donegal GAA people are raging now, he's a 'sell out taking a step down'.

    GAA fans are mental.

Its deluded to think a guy with all those qualifications and experience/success wont follow the money. 3 day week for £50k p/a or whatever it is. You'd want to have your head examined to turn it down!

Celtic have been lacking in getting their own u19's into the first team, hopefully this is another piece to the jigsaw along with working with schools to develop players. Lennon seems more committed than GS or MON to developing players so hopefully more Forrests and Watts will come through

    EDIT

    http://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/0/football/20273830

Celtic manager Neil Lennon has revealed the club have entered negotiations over a new contract for Tony Watt.
The teenage striker netted what turned out to be the winning goal in Wednesday's 2-1 win against Barcelona, having made his Celtic debut in April.

"We will hopefully get over the line with it pretty soon," said Lennon.

Meanwhile, the Celtic manager insists few management jobs would be able to offer experiences like the Champions League victory against Barca.

"Would I get a better night than that anywhere else in football? I would doubt it very much," he said.

"It is what makes the club unique, there is something special about the club on a European night and it manifested itself in all its glory on Wednesday.

"I got an inkling that there could be something special in the air for Wednesday night and it was a very special couple of days.

"But it will not be up to me, it will be up to the board whether they want me here or not.

"They know what this club means to me, it is a good fit for me.

"I have a good relationship with [chief executive] Peter [Lawwell] and [majority shareholder] Dermot [Desmond] but that doesn't last forever.

"But we are going in the right direction."

Many congratulated Lennon following Wednesday's result, including one notable celebrity.

"I had a lot of texts from people in the game which was fantastic but I got a call yesterday from left field from Sir Elton John believe it or not, congratulating me," added the Celtic boss.

"I thought my missus was winding me up but it just shows you the interest it has generated among a lot of people.

"He was very knowledgeable about the game and knew a lot about myself and it was great that he took time out to call me, as he is going to Australia on tour."

    Get that contract signed!!

In other news, media goes fishing for soundbite of Neil Lennon wanting to leave Celtic!

The Key word is Consultant , He will be billing Celtic by the hour/day and will have agreed a contract with a set number of days per year.

I forgot Lennon signed a new contract, but his original one was 200k and Thommo, Mjallby and Parker were around 400k combined. These were published in the annual reports.

I'd follow Donegal GAA quite a bit and the job he has done with us is incredible, turning a team that was little more than a joke two years ago to AI champions. I know they are different sports but he I believe he is an extremely intelligent man and I think he can adapt and apply his qualities to the role. He is known to be a great motivator and someone people listen to. Golfer Paul McGinley commented recently how impressed he was.

From a Donegal viewpoint I'm disappointed as I think this could be the beginning of what leads to his departure from us :(.
As a Mayo supporter it's a pity he didn't take up the job last year :pac:
Still, if Celtic are winning matches and Celtic are winning games then I'm happy!!

    http://www1.skysports.com/football/news/11781/8237129/Celtic-midfielder-Joe-Ledley-is-in-talks-regarding-a-contract-extension

Joe Ledley has revealed that he is in discussions regarding an extension to his current contract at Celtic.
    Joe Ledley wrote:
"There are talks going on. I have one more year after this season and hopefully I can stay.

"It's a fantastic club, I love playing for Celtic.

"Talks have started and I have spoken to my agent so hopefully something can happen.

"People are always going to criticise Scottish football for some reason. I think it's a fantastic league. To play in the Champions League is a huge honour too. It was a great move for me to sign for Celtic."

"I could have maybe gone to a Premier League team and just sat in mid-table. I didn't want that.

"I like winning games, I want to win things and play in the best competition in the world, the Champions League."

Another player in contract talks, an important player imo that rarely grabs the headlines. Important that Lawwell gets this one done

BARCELONA star Pedro insists no team in Europe will want to take on Celtic at Parkhead after their Champions League heroics.

The Spanish winger was hugely impressed by Neil Lennon’s team’s 2-1 victory on Wednesday night.

And Pedro reckons the Hoops can now beat ANYONE at home.

He praised the Hoops crowd for their part in one of Celtic’s greatest results and refused to belittle their achievement despite Barca’s superior possession.

Pedro said: “Nobody will want to play Celtic over two legs after what they’ve just achieved against us.

“How many clubs play Barcelona twice and have such close matches?

“They have shown the whole of Europe they are not in the Champions League just to make up the numbers.

“If they can beat Barcelona they can beat anybody. Before, you might hope you draw a team like Celtic in the knockout stages of the competition.

“But I don’t think any club will be feeling like that now.

“As a player, you know how difficult it is to play at Celtic Park. The crowd makes it 12 v 11 and those fans would motivate any team in the world.”

Pedro and the rest of his Barca team-mates were denied by Celtic’s resolute defence and keeper Fraser Forster produced a world-class display to keep the Spaniards out.

Pedro added: “Their keeper is an excellent player. After the first game I thought maybe he’d just had a good game.

“But now it’s clear to me he’s special.”

    Commons is English :pac:

    Anyways,

Remember Mo Bangura? Seems to be getting his groove back with AIK Solna, scored a belter against PSV in the Europa League during the week. Dont think anyone mentioned it.

  • Banned (with Prison Access) Posts: 1,940 ✭✭✭BhoscaCapall

Hopefully AIK buy him back. I would say the pecking order up front is:

    Hooper
    Watt
    Stokes
    Miku
    Lassad?
    Samaras
    Murphy
    Keatings
    Bangura

Obviously can't say much about Lassad, although if he can't manage to play 2 games in a row he may as well be put down. Sammi is down there because he's a winger IMO.

Bangura had a serious knee injury shortly after joining and never got the gametime to get back to match fitness, thats not good for a player trying to settle in a new country. See what happened Lustig when he first joined, he suffered badly aswell. I never thought he was a bad player and there is a reason we bought him for the amount we did and still believe he could be a good signing for us. He's gone back to AIK to get his fitness & confidence back and it looks like that is happening which is great. Hopefully when comes back to Celtic, he can get a run of games and show everyone why we spent what we did on him. I wouldnt agree with that pecking order tbh

I don't care about his injuries, he wasn't even capable of the simplest of tasks - running with the ball, getting a shot on target, finding a pass, making a run.

I think Miku is a good comparison. Miku didn't get much game time, and didn't score for ages, but he at least showed glimpses of a good player - good footwork, few deft touches and some nice runs.

Bangura is an absolute donkey. The moment he said he'd be off to Man Utd next season we should have left him to rot in the reserves.

His comments didnt endear himself to the fans but his motivation for playing well for Celtic is as valid as anyone else's. I'm not going to use it as stick to beat him with.

CELTIC (4-4-2) Forster; Matthews, Ambrose, Wilson, Mulgrew; Brown, Wanyama, Ledley, Commons; Miku, Samaras

Subs: Zaluska, Watt, McCourt, Kayal, McGeouch, Lustig, Ibrahim

Would like to see Watt, McGeouch & Ibrahim get off the bench today

Nasty looking injury for McCracken, looks like a fractured cheekbone.

    EDIT

Tony Watt makes an instant impact after coming on at HT, 1-0

Ledley looked knackered coming off. Good to see Kayal on, incredible that he hasnt played more this season despite the time out injured.

    EDIT

    Incredible reaction save by Forster!

Hasselbaink scores afterwards, Celtic need to up the gears now!

Disappointing performance again after a UCL match. Lennon needs to sort that out.

  • Banned (with Prison Access) Posts: 1,940 ✭✭✭BhoscaCapall

The result doesn't particularly bother me. We had too many injuries to rest our players who just faced probably the most mentally and physically exhausting team to play against. We're 2 pts off top with a game in hand, in the long run it doesn't really matter.

Hope the players get a good rest and we will beat Aberdeen on Saturday.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 4,681 ✭✭✭ColeTrain

Have to say I'm not too downbeat about the result.
After the effort against Barca the players were always going to be drained.
I also think you have to give the SPL teams a bit of credit. While they are far from world beaters, they are usually well organised and can be tough to break down. In saying that you would expect us to win these games 9/10 but it doesn't work out that way all the time.
Credit to St.Johnstone today and Hibs, Felon has turned them around and they've put together an impressive run.

we beat this lot 5-0 just over a week ago! barcelona is no excuse for a laboured performance like that nor the one against kilmarnock.

miku was poor, samaras is best wide left, not up front. ledley looked fecked, why kayal wasnt started instead of himself or wanyama is a poor decision.

lennon cant blame midweek matches forever. he needs to improve the preparation for matches like this, like every other european regular team does. we have good squad dept, good enough to rotate more than he does without a huge drop off in performance imo.
