According to the Record, Lennon has banned the swapping of shirts and the Sun are saying that they are to ignore the Barca players in the tunnel. Hopefully Lennon can keep them all focussed for the 90 minutes with small tweaks to their preparation for the match.

Looking forward to this game as I am sure all Celts are big time. Really love how the team is developing again this season. We are clearing getting better at looking after the ball and playing an attractive brand of football which is fun to watch. Realistically we will get beaten tonight but you never know and I think we will give them a game where they will really have to earn the right to get the points.
What worries me more then anything though is that our good form does seem to have got the attention of Barcelona both players and coach. So there will be no sneaking one in under the radar tonight.

Tonight will be another stage in the development of this young team, they've made great progress under Lennon with a decent performance last season in the Europa being built on to allow for a game against the best team in the world on the biggest stage.

Hopefully they'll learn from tonight no matter what the result

This 'best team in the world' didn't even win La Liga last season.

Not that it makes much difference, mind you.

True but with the players they have they're most peoples picks as the best

Really looking forward to this. This is the type of game we all look forwarding to seeing the Hoops playing in.

Fancy of us to give them a game and maybe nick a goal. We will have to be careful of that Argentine player they have I hear he is good. Bet he is no Sammy though :).

Hoping for an epic Celtic performance tonight. We're playing as well as we have under Lennon, so hopefully that combined with the experience we are beginning to build up with this squad in Europe will help us. They should not be overwhelmed by this game.

Tbh I think I'll be happy with any score aside from a pumping, so long as Celtic put a good shift in. I'm going to be the eternal optimist and go for a score draw though after a Hooper goal and a huge amount of dogged defending, 1-1. :D

You were so close to being right on the scoreline. Think this benefit celtic long term once they get over the disappointment.

Completely agree. Of course they'll be downhearted, but they made life very difficult for Barca on their own patch, and that is all any team can expect to do, no matter how good they are. I'm glad we have them next at home tbh.

4 points and two away games out of the way is not bad at this level. Spartak at home will be crucial. Tonight will definitely give us confidence for getting something away to Benfica I would think.

i dont think it makes the home tie anyway easier tbh. by the time it comes around, we are expected to have learned alot more than actually possible from a single game. expected to do more in possession and style of play. hard to have a go at them without exposing yourself! by then beating spartak at home and getting a result against benfica will be just as important as it was yesterday imo, nobody was/is catching barca

    Sickening result. Brilliant performance.

They look as strong as any Celtic team in the Champions League.

But here's to no more 'heartbreak for Celtic' headlines!

Was fun to watch the nuggets on here trying to dampen it down in the match thread if nothing else, going from 8-0 predictions to "yeah..... well.... you still lost". My god, there are quite a few of them on boards.

I don't think some people can cope with the fact that Celtic are an improving side. Our side a couple of seasons ago would have been destroyed by Barca. Lennon deserves a huge amount of credit for bringing in young players and taking them to this level.

They dont know as much about football as they think they do. They watch a German/Italian/Spanish league game once in a blue moon and it goes to their heads! :pac:

Sitting in Barcelona airport now and although am gutted, I'm also extremely proud to be a Celtic supporter. No one gave us the slightest hope, but we all believed in eachother and no one can take that away from us.

Ah well, at least the supporters can hold their heads up on the way home(even the ones with a hangover like my nearest and dearest). He has a long journey home Barcelona to Beauvais, Beauvais to Edinburgh then the long drive to Glasgow about one in the morning - he has work tomorrow morning too:rolleyes:

Totally agree Paulo. Huge credit to Lennon and this young team for an excellent defensive display. They continue to improve as does Lennon as coach. Heartbreaking way to lose but I think this performance should give our players even more belief and confidence in themselves.

STV say that big Vic has rejected new contract offer

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 20,529 ✭✭✭✭Dempsey

What needs to happen now is Lennon getting the team selection and tactics right for the next league game. we had a tough games, players will be tired but we need to get that aspect of things right too.

the contract offer was well short of expectations apparently. hard to know who was being unreasonable but he'contracted until 2015 as it is. not worried until 2014!

You see Celtic defending with 10 men and almost snatching a point - that is not fair.

Nothing is fair in football, its all about what works and what doesnt. That sort of defending works to a point on Barcelona's system. Is he really suggesting that teams should just play to the strengths of others rather than themselves?

I went to wikipedia to check what job he was doing at the moment and I wasnt surprised to see that he has too much time on his hands and I saw this nugget of info from his last job.
He was criticized by the Turkish media for trying to implement a reckless attacking style of play

Seems that he doesnt like the idea of defending in football, he'll probably want the slide tackle outlawed altogether next!

Meh.... attention seeking and nothing else tbh.

Given that non-champions are also part of this competition, I'd love to see how he would exclude league champions from the competition.

Regarding 9 behind the ball, parking the bus, anti-football or whatever else you want to call it, it's not against the rules, so if you don't like it, tough titties. You do what you have to do to try to earn points.

In any case, I believe there's a big difference between choosing to play "anti-football", and having no choice but to play defensively when outclassed by a more skilled and pacier side.

Schuster is an idiot, another one who would prefer a tournament that only includes the really big clubs.

If anything, Celtic have more right to be there than Barcelona, what with being champions and all that.

Big clubs except Chelsea of course, he didn't like their style of play v Barca either it seems! :)
