Then Scott Brown was asked by that Russian journalist if Celtic players watch Braveheart before their games...

SB with a straight face: "Yes we watch Braveheart, and before every game we also put our kilts on and all dance together...

    :)

That is brilliant. Sounds like something Skoosh would say too.

what do you all think our chances are to snatch a result tomorrow?

I think we have a chance of snatching a draw, I don't think Spartak are any better than us and we have a pretty much full strength squad. The plastic pitch may be an issue but still an improvement on some of the pitches in Scotland.

Having said all that this is Celtic away from home in the Champ Lge so not getting my hopes up

I predict a pumping tomorrow night.

Was gonna ask who we were drawn against in the Scottish Cup today then realised its only the diddy teams in it

A draw it will be, and Gary Hooper scoring.

Will be very strange to see Aiden lining up against us.

Not too confident about tonight unfortunately, vital as usual we dont concede early.

I reckon 2-1 spartak with hooper getting one back for us late on. :(

    'Mon the hoops though :)

Spartak Moscow's Aiden McGeady emotional about Celtic reunion

Aiden McGeady will experience a "strange feeling" when he lines up for Spartak Moscow against former club Celtic in the Champions League tonight.

The Russian side host Neil Lennon's team on the artificial turf of the Luzhniki Stadium and McGeady, who signed from Celtic in 2010 for £9.5m, will have to contend with mixed emotions at facing his boyhood heroes.

"It'll be the first time I've faced Celtic," the winger said. "I try to catch most Celtic games on TV and I keep up to date with what's going on online. But, obviously, I'm now a Spartak player.

"Of course, Celtic are the team I grew up with, the team I support and the team I grew to love, but tonight that all goes out the window."

McGeady, who scored 31 goals in 147 league appearances for Celtic, admitted he is already excited at the prospect of going back to Glasgow for the return game.

"To just be back playing at Parkhead, for a different team, it's going to be a great experience," he added. "When the draw came out my phone was ringing off the hook with everyone phoning and texting me about the draw and how good it was."

McGeady was rested for the 3-1 win over Amkar at the weekend which took Spartak to fifth in the Russian Premier League, four points behind leaders Anzhi Makhachkala.

Spartak are looking for their first points in Group G, though, after losing 3-2 at Barcelona in their opening game. For their part, the Scottish champions played out a goalless home draw against Benfica.

Lennon, the Celtic manager, is wary of the threat McGeady will pose. "He has improved since his days at Celtic," Lennon said. "In the games I have watched Spartak play, Aiden has probably been their best attacking player.

"He looks in good condition. We all know how good he is on the ball but his movement off the ball is excellent. He covers the ground very quickly and he will be a threat. He will want to win the game and he will want to play well."

Celtic (possible, 4-4-1-1): Forster; Lustig, Wilson, Ambrose, Izaguirre; Forrest, Brown, Wanyama, Mulgrew; Commons; Hooper

It's good to see Sammy back. So it will be a 2:2 draw. Header from Hooper and a Sammy penalty.

Wanyama is a beast in midfield! great tackle to start the move off....class finish by Hooper.

Some sweet finish by Hooper there. Great start, hope they don't sit back too much now.

What a goal. Brilliant cross in from Lustig.

We need to keep playing them on the break. Think that was our first real attack.

    still early days though

Didn't look like a foul from Mulgrew in the first place.

That looked like a penalty on the replay

Daft yellow for Charlie there. We must be more confident defending though. Hoofing it up has to be a last resort. Plenty of times we are giving the ball away needlessly. Theresspace there when we break as just shown by Sammy and Hooper.

Couple of feet offside there, looking very good on the counter, just hope we can hold out at the back

    Unlucky, just offside.

Did Wanyama even touch him? Referee has been poor.

Should have been a definite penalty with that earlier tackle on Commons. Crocker claiming the guy got a lot of the ball, well I don't think he got any of the ball

Provan was saying the same. They only showed one replay and it looked a definite penalty.

It didn't look like coming either

That was coming, very frustrating considering Samaras made a mess if it a minute earlier

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,133 ✭✭✭Stevecw

Ah balls, that all came from Samaras arsing around with the ball, and then giving it away far too easily. That wasn't deserved at all.

Thought we were looking comfortable and were deserving leaders. It's a shame we couldn't make it until half time.
