You are not forced to do it. If you don't get co-op you have a semester in the college doing like 2 or 3 modules or something like that. There's no gun to your head about co-op like...

    5 modules actually.

If you don't do coop it 2 crappy modules and a coop report on a summer job
    or 3 crappy modules

I thought it was in your contract to mandatorily accept a coop placement if you get the job?

so you can't just drop it after you find out its unpaid?

Serious? I had to do 5 when I got my exemption from Erasmus, assumed it'd be the same for co-op. Zoiks.

Well Erasmus would be 5 subjects abroad so you'd have to do the same here.

AFAIK you don't have to accept unpaid coop, it would be an unfair financial burden on students.

We were told the only one we cudnt accept is non-paid. I'm not sure can you decline a non-paid job if you take the interview for it maybe?

A few people got offered paid co-op in my course but didn't want to do them because they were off away up the country etc. Co-op office said fine but now you can go find your own

I haven't heard anything good about the co op office, I'm due to go January 2013 and applied to go to the USA and haven't had any luck finding my own now I'm starting to get nervous about the co op office now :\

That's fair enough. If you really didn't want to do co-op, just throw the interviews, or not turn up for them.
Either way I think it would be silly, 6-8 months experience in some relevant workplace is better than whatever amount of irrelevant modules, pay or no pay.

Large coffee in the Spar Shop has increased from €1.85 to €2

Heard the 3 fruits for a euro is gone now as well.

    Who is this new manager?

AFAIK it has been taken over by the same people who run the DCU shop. Nothing to do with ULSU anymore...

Tell them you're there for the full year, and get somebody to cover you who is coming back from co-op in January. Simple!

We have a single box room available for the year but if you'll be able to find a sound person I'm sure we can work something out!

dont know of anyone going on co-op for the first semester. :( next week some will be taking people for one semester instead of risking having an empty room so ive to try again.

I did General Chemistry CH4001 in the first semester in engineering, I squeeezed everything I needed onto one page for the exam. I didn't do chemistry for the leaving cert and got a B3 overall with two days study. I still have the sheet if you want me to scan it for you?
