I'm bitterly disappointed. I bought myself some chicken wings the other day specifically to eat tonight, and I just found out MY MOTHER FED THEM TO MY BROTHER.

    JoeyQoL doesn't share food! :pac:

Ah, I suspected that it was that show. Very overrated imo.

    Don't hate me. :pac:

Its a pity you just missed Comedy Central's Joey Vs Food weekend...

Friends references always go over my head as well. I never watched the show when it was on and only absorbed any information on it through pop culture osmosis.

My biggest arrrrgh is that the NUIG website is refusing to allow me access to jstor.

    A pox on thee!

Surely these heathens should be cast out of C+H, doomed to wander the wasteland that is the rest of boards for all eternity? (Or at lest until they discover the greatness of Friends...)

Its not that good of a tv show. I'll never understand why its so popular.

It's nothing special. I often look at American sitcoms/comedy, listen to the laughtracks and wonder "What the f*ck are you laughing at?, That's not funny at all".

I'm convinced that one day the world will wake up, look back at the popularity of friends and collectively say 'What the hell was that all about'?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,384 ✭✭✭Duffy the Vampire Slayer

Just to clarify, I'm referring to Friends the tv show, not the concept of intimate relationships with other people.

Didn't think I'd be saying this, but I've got too much work coming my way lately! I can't fit it all in! I'm basically doing little bits of work for three people, which is already clashing a little, and I had to turn down a couple of days' work from a fourth because I didn't have the time!

It's all just random days once in a while but the last week has been non-stop! Next week will probably be totally empty then!

One of the people wants a hand collecting furniture from Dublin tomorrow which I said yes to without thinking! I know it's half getting paid to sit in a van but we're leaving at 7 a.m! And I can't sleep :-(

I thought everyone, girls included, watched it cos they had a crush on Jennifer Aniston.

Top rated comment- 'With the laugh track, this is a stupid show about nerds. Without, it's a heartwrenching documentary about the trials of a man diagnosed with Asperger's.'

I watch TBBT and find it bearable if there's absolutely nothing better on. But I appear to be the only one that doesn't understand why the other people remain friends with Sheldon. Because if I knew someone like that they'd be garroted and hung off a balcony within two hours.

I'd just like to point out that Friends didn't have a laugh track, it was actually filmed in front of an audience.

But that's just a live laugh track?

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 1,812 ✭✭✭Precious flower

I always thought that shows that used laugh tracks weren't funny for the simple reason that they had to tell people when to laugh suggesting that it clearly wasn't obvious when you should laugh. I hate the look of shock I get when I say I hate Friends, as if I've clearly lost my mind! :pac:

Yeah but as opposed to being a track put in to tell viewers when to laugh, it's actually an audience watching the show.

Yeah but as opposed to being a track put in to tell viewers when to laugh, it's actually an audience watching the show.

It would still have those green flashing icons that light up indicating when the audience should laugh, can't really see a whole lot of difference.
