They are just digging a hole for them self's why would they be only looking to get the car in there name now if they had bought it in 2008.

Might have something to do with the age of the car.

I wonder what will happen now that they no the Garda are going to be come looking to take the car back will it disappear , and what happens to the person that was trying to get it in there name as it is really looking like they either robed the car or knew it was a robed car .

The person had a letter witnessed by a solicitor I know and it says the car was bought from someone whose name he can't remember and he doesn't have the exact address but it is a block of apartments that I lived in 7 years ago.

Who told you about the letter? who has seen the letter?

The form needed to transfer ownership by a buyer is witnessed by a solicitor.

If its the person that stole it or was involved, the fear would be now that that happens and the OP still might not see the car again.

The gards should have gotten the keys off the op and taken it if they got no answer.

All the letter would be is the form that you fill out if you don't receive the log book when buying a car its just a signature and stamp. I had to get one done before 2 min didn't have to have the car with me and didn't cost a penny.

I suspect the DOT has now finally sent the Gardaí the file.

The op has the keys, would the current owner not have to get new ignition or something?

The gardai didn't see the car but there are a few lock up garages around the property

    Very interesting mate :)

Really hope you get it back whether it be a '93 Nissan Micra Automatic or a '03 Mercedes S-Class.

If you do get it back, Plenty of pics please :)

I would assume they'd have gotten a new key or a new lock set by now but if it has remote central locking the OP's keys would probably still open it. I'd say all they did was code a new key to the car.

DOT and the Gardai are in contact now, Gardai know who has the car and where it is located.
They are going to go back to the address and speak to this person, I assume the car was not there when they called.
Gardai can do a quick check to see if it has been taxed or insured since it was reported stolen.
You have not received any fines or anything so it may have been of the road for ages.

    Christ, been following this thread.

How difficult can it be to recover stolen property?

Why are AGS and the DOT slacking so much, furthermore, why would they advise the chancer that they have been rumbled? beggars belief.

It really makes out that the best way to solve things would be through vigilanteism,

Really hope you get your car back OP, this is absolutely crazy.

Everything takes time, no point in charging in without all the facts and it's probably one of a thousand things dot and ags have to do.

    I suppose,

but if the car has been moved/hidden its no use to the OP, its more the notification to the other party that grinds my gears to be honest, its like doing a drugs raid at a house but ringing the occupants before to let them know.

This person that has it may not be the one who stole it, they could be innocent.

Looking less and less likely now.

They're still in posession of stolen property regardless of innocence, the OP owns it, its tough titties for the person holding it currently.

Do you think? why would they chance looking for the log book now?

    I am aware of this.

They thought 3 years was long enough for a change to sail through unopposed.

Why would they lie saying they bought the car a year before it was robbed
