US SNES is just plain ugly..

Uglier than a PAL Snes with an import adaptor & US cart plugged into it?
Uglier than a PAL Snes with it's cart slot cut & widened?

    Didn't think so :p

My Super Famicom looks like this and I still think it's prettier :pac:

Yep, it's an absolute monstrosity of a thing! Works a treat though.

Only problem with my one is it's the 24Mb version - so it can't support games bigger than 3MB in size.

Why would you use an import adapter. Mod it and widen it unless you like playing your games in slow motion.

If you used an import adapter to play PAL games on an NTSC snes then it would still run full speed ;)

Are you sure about that? The PPU chips inside the Snes determine the refresh rate...& they're hardwired to 50Hz in a PAL model

Well I love my US SNES and the square carts are the bomb, with the names of the games on top aswell for easy storage

Think you need to re-read what o1s1n said :)

Also does a widened slot really look that bad (ooh-err matron!).

Aahhh, I missed the NTSC bit. It's very easy to mod a US Snes to accept PAL carts, unlike the other way around.

Damn, I'm actually bidding on a cheap Super Famicom....
    Maybe I'll lose....

So, how much does a US Snes go for these days?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 10,656 ✭✭✭✭OwaynOTT

US SNES is a beauty! The only problem is the washed out smarties color of the buttons but you can just use your pal controller in it right?
The systems are fecking expensive on eBay though. I haven't came across a cheap on yet*.

*This forum does things to you! Perfectly innocent sentence but I know the thread is about to go sleazy in a way only general retro discuss can go.

I like it, it's certainly no uglier than its cousin which is the Famicom

    Famicom.jpg

But that's probably allowed to be ugly because its Japanese yeah? :D
It's still at least 497 times better than the Piece of Sh!t that is the NES
    another replacement 72pin connector anyone?

  • Moderators, Category Moderators, Computer Games Moderators Posts: 54,083 CMod ✭✭✭✭Retr0gamer

Even I could see it was a dreadful design when I opened my US NES up to replace the connector. What genius decided that having the carts inserted at an angle into the connector wouldn't cause problems. I'm going to have to get another replacement 72-pin connector myself. I'd love a top loader but they are hard to find and look a bit **** in all honesty.

Have to agree re the top loader, NES carts are meant to be sideways

Gladly no. It's an O2 money card which doesn't have enough to cover the balance on it as I thought it wouldn't be shipped until the 1st.

Not exactly a surprise but it looks like the 3DS XL ribbed for her pleasure is getting a circle pro addon.
It may look a bit different from the below image.

Just checked the FB page, seems to be true.
Does this mean that Prototype 2 wasn't the success it was supposed to be?

there's no point in buying a Super Famicom really for me because the PAL machine is identical barring the name on it, & can play the SFC games.

    +60hz ;)

Has a extra battery included also for longer play time !

No, it's not that bad, but it shouldn't need it gods dammit!!!
A second circle pad is all the console needs to be perfect, bigger screen be-damned!
The 3DS-XL means that we may never see one at all, not if they are this happy with the current form.
Maybe the push just isn't there from developers?
Maybe Circle Pad Pro sales suggest there is no desire for a redone 3DS console?

    Not fair!

Plus, I was going to salt away the money for either a PSVita or a PS3, now I have to consider a 3DS-XL as well!
Not to mention the WiiU at Christmas!

Where am I going to pull all this money from?

    Hethen MicroSonySoft fetishist talk!

In my day the Dreamcast didn't need no fancy schmancy second analogue stick!
Neither did the Saturn's Nights-Into-Dream's controller!
    Nor the N64!

And we played them all uphill! BAREFOOT. IN STINKING 50Hz!!!

This second analogue stick fad is as decadent and depraved as The Kentucky Derby!

And the one thing that all those console had in common was....

In 3D games, 3rd person view, the issue was always, always, always with the camera controls.
Even in something as sublime as Croc Mario64 the camera could, on occasion, go a bit mental and so you had to use the yellow cross pad, repurposed as second stick.

Even the awesomesauce Mario Galaxy, wonderful I here you say...
    Yes, yes it is.
    Faultless certainly?
Well, the camera was seldom an issue because it couldn't afford to be as the Wii had no second stick, so it was all levels built around spheres, camera problems solved right there.

So, here we are, in the second decade of the 21st century.
We don't have real hover boards.
    No holidays on Mars.
    No hovercars.

The least bit of the future that I can demand is that my chosen 3D displaying handheld has a 2nd circlepad so I don't injure myself playing Kid Icarus!
