This one is for Sera, and a very belated one at that!

Finally picked up Shinobi 3DS today (the game that seems to get cheaper by the week!). I had been playing the Game Gear version on the way in to town, and playing the newer one on the way home it's actually quite a loyal update to the formula. There's a few modern tweaks, but it's certainly nice to see a real old school successor.

Yep it's surprisingly great and surprising it came from such a lowly mobile phone developer.

I was looking at the trailer and I thought it was a bit odd doing another side scroller for 3DS when the gamegear one is available. :P

Only real downers so far are the half-assed graphics (kind of like a slightly upressed DS game at time) and occasionally sluggish movement speeds. But it has that same mix of unforgiving platforming and only semi-generous hitboxes that we all remember from the heydays of 8 and 16-bit.

Was thinking of making it my next 3DS purchase as well but got Cave Story for it today sp will have to leave it a while.

Shinobi 3DS is brutally hard in some places. I have had to stop playing it on several occasions in fear of smashing my 3DS.

Proper old school relentless platforming action though and I agree with mr. JU about the graphics, they seem quite murky and some enemies almost blend into the background.

Had a woeful experience in Gamestop yesterday, went in with money in my pocket to buy games, some good ones to be had including Dragon Ball, Elite Beat Agents and Guilty Gear all on DS.

Went up to pay for them but one of the boxes was cracked so I got the girl behind the counter to change the box to a new one, which she did.

Then to my amazement when she came back she totally blanked me and started serving some spotty teenager, flabbergasted I asked what was happening and she looked through me like I was some piece of plop she just trod on.

Still flabbergasted she then proceeded to serve another person, all this right in front of the manager whom I then approched with my grievances, he told me he hadn't seen this incident.
He was standing right there looking at me the whole time.

Needless to say I smashed the games down had some choice words and left. The whole experience was horrible and now I feel like I can't go back to that shop for fear of having to give some members of staff a slap.

Tell me about it, real problem is the fact that they actually have lots of good DS games all at good prices which I'd like to buy but alas now I feel like I can't shop there anymore, it's really píssed me off.

Well I made it through testing that "job lot" of games from Japan and the US.
Out of 310 Famicom, Super Famicom, Genesis, Saturn(Jap) and a few misc games I've got 50 games that appear to be dead out of the 310.
I think that's probably fair enough as that's the risk with these job lots, non of the games are sold as tested.

I'll try and fix the ones that don't work during the week but even if I cant save any of them it wasn't a bad deal.

I'd say the carts will work with a bit of cleaning. The saturn games though, no chance really if it's a bad copy.

Yeah, I knew it was very risky with the disc based games. I'll look into how places do this disc resurfacing and see if I can do it myself.
Anyone know how Smyths do it?

Indeed, I'd be very surprised if you had that many dead carts. The things seem to last forever.

I'd be sifting out all the decent ones and giving them a good scrubbing.

It's about 35 or so dead carts and the rest as discs. I did some quick basic cleaning with Isopropyl Alcohol and cotton buds but I didn't spend much time on each cart as I'd loads to get through.
I'll spend a bit of time cleaning them during the week and see how it goes.

As a bonus I had a lovely dead cockroach looking creature at the end of one of the boxes from the US. At first in my tired and delusional stuper I thought the seller had included a free toy, he hadn't :(

Similar with the discs, weed out the best one and get to work on them with toothpaste.

At least you thought the cockroach was a toy and not a tasty chocolate treat :D

Apparently, it's just like Strider (see if anyone remembers that particular poster!)

Should be picking up a cheap 360 with the rrod

Is this an easy fix and what are the odds of success?

Also any possibility of explosions or electrocution:D

If i fix it can it still be connected to xbox live?
