Honestly I don't need a second stick on the 3DS. The PSP proved that first and third person games aren't really suited to a handheld experience and this had nothing to do with the controls. If I want to play an action game like Gears of War or Call of Duty I'll play them at home. I'd much rather something like Dragon Quest, Layton, Touch Detective, Loco Roco or Ouendan when I'm on the move. What games currently really need the second stick on the 3DS? Resi maybe and monster hunter clones which I can live without. The DS was probably my favourite console ever and never did I think it needed dual analogue controls. The PSP on the other hand came into it's own when it moved away from traditional console games and concentrated on games suited to the handheld experience, again this has nothing to do with controls before some one chimes in about it.

Exactly! Most games on the 3DS have no need for it. Action or adventure games with nice big levels or worlds might benefit from camera control. I know people are sick of these remakes but Super Mario 64 should be re-re-released on the eShop with a 3D touch up  that would benefit from camera control with a second circle

Best price so far is at Shopto. I wonder if Amazon will have a good price and any bundles...?

Screw the 3DSXXXL, did no-one else hear that Namco-Bandai are developing the new Smash Bros.
I was hoping to say that first lol, I slept in. IGN had it on twitter last night

All true, but why restrict what the handheld can offer now? Especially as there are games that do use the dual stick. How much better is RE with the twin sticks?

I'm not saying the 3DS needs two sticks, but its certainly an avenue worth keeping open. Now we're back to more abomination ad ons if needed

Now that I think about it, RE Revelations is the only game I've really used the twin sticks for. Got rid of MGS 3 as I wasn't enjoying it at all.

Still, rather have it there than not.

Plus if you think about it, if you only had that XL version, the add on with the second stick won't fit it.

Unless they make yet another add on for that one too, but I seriously doubt it.

Sure, it's worth having there than not but I won't miss it. I actually think that the DS was better off without it, it meant that comapnies couldn't shovel a port of a PS2 game on to the machine like on the PSP and meant that there was a shift to more original content.

Exactly. There's no reason not to have it, especially on the XL version it should be integrated. Now everyone that has the first stick addon will have to purchase another one if they go for an XL

There's an Xibit meme to be made there.

Yeah true, but they just found other shovelware to fill that gap. The DS is loaded with brilliance, but it's not without its fair share of tripe either :)

I just think it was mad to restrict the XL to one stick, even if a 2nd one never got used, at least it was there if needed. It's addon city now again

'We know you like console add ons - so we've left an add on off a revision so you can add on to your original while you add on to your revision!'

Or something. Now my brain hurts.

It's a pisser but nintendo know what they are doing. Only the more enthusiastic gamers will buy the frankenstick and it will only be used by games like Resi or MGS3 that appeal to these people. And as a part of that group I know I'm gullible enough to buy it. The vast majority of the 3DS's market will be happy to buy the usual games that sold well on the DS, the ones that didn't need a second stick like mario, layton etc.

So Nintendo save money on each 3DS sold and make a bit extra on us gullible chumps.

  • Moderators, Category Moderators, Computer Games Moderators Posts: 54,083 CMod ✭✭✭✭Retr0gamer

I'm sure that everyone will be talking about how Nintendo has totally messed up with 3DS by not add the second stick. I'll be off to paddy power to put money on the 3DS totally trouncing the Vita in terms of sales and a nice sales spike when the XL launches.

I think the Kid Icarus control scheme is charming once you adjust to its inherent ludicrousness, but I still think a proper dual stick mode would have been a nice addition.

This looks like it could be great:

    From Bedrooms to Billions
A documentary feature film telling the story of the UK Video Games Industry from 1979 to 1996.

That would mean Nintendo admitting they were wrong, like that will ever happen.

They shot some footage with Jaz Rignall the other day. Looks good. I donated to the 100 Yen film (look out for me in the credits!) but not this one, yet.

I'm fine without the second stick. Having no second stick for camera control is a sacrifice I'm willing to make if it means a system that isn't flooded with first person shooters.

I'm cringing thinking about the new ad campaign from Nintendo for the LL :D
Hopefully more celebrity endorsement!! The Zelda ad made me want to buy Ocarina even more but I still haven't found it for under €30 :(

Evil never dies, it just moves to another console under another name.
Warning, music is crappy and loud when it starts up.

It actually plays better than ROTR but is still a crapfest.

Neat. Someone went around New York taking photos of the locations from the Blackwell games.

I was only there a few days ago. It's taken from the Highline (well worth a visit). I was actually thinking to myself it would make a great photo if I had a camera in that exact spot.

I still pop in now and again, but there is nothing really interesting, and what is there is too expensive I feel now. They've upped their prices. Do any of ye still go in there?

I did, actually bought something as well. I've noticed their prices are ever-slowly moving towards Gamexhange on Talbot St sort-of prices. I paid 15e for KoF Neowave, Gamexchange charge around 19e for KoF titles. Somewhat depressing we're essentially back at square one in regards to retro-gaming in Dublin, the nearest brick & mortor is slowly outpricing its target-market. I know there's defenses in terms of survival, good-business et al, but still......

I miss 3D games a little. They hadn't a clue what they had 90 percent of the time. So you'd be charged 40e for something common as SF Collection 2 on PS1, then turn around and nab Paper Mario (GCN) for next to nothing.

I pop in now and again but rarely buy anything. I got a sting rpg called Evolution on the dreamcast for a fiver a few months ago but it's fairly crap.
