Euros aren't harder tbh yeah at the World Cup you get the likes of North Korea, Honduras, Angola types but you still get teams(and more importantly the players from) the likes of Ghana, Brazil, Argentina and Uruguay in the world cup. If I were to be ultra critical I bet a lot of countries are wondering what we are doing at the Euros
    :'-(

Smaller pool of more talented nations, with the exception of one or two south American/ African teams. The worst thing the world cup ever did was expand.

Good thing the euros ain't doing that......oh wait YES they are doing exactly that. From ironically 2016 there are 24 teams in the finals. Why Hello...it CANNOT possibly be IT IS! by Jesus its Scotland! At a Major tournament no less, has it gotten this bad, well no not really but you do get my point.

Euros is much more difficult to win than the world cup imo. Much better standard of teams than at the WC.

It's not much more difficult to win because the World Cup adds Brazil, Argentina, and Uruguay. In the World Cup it is easier to qualify from the initial group stages because of said poorer teams from Asia and Africa, but in general it's still more difficult to win a World Cup.

As a side note on Uruguay, they finished 4th in the last World Cup, winners of the Copa America last year, and look well on course to qualify for the next World Cup, all with a population less than Ireland, just 3.2 million.

I disagree. Plenty have big name pro footballers have said that its far harder to win the euros than the world cup. these are players who have played in both. One of the main Reasons being is that these players play against each other all year in friendlies and in club football in Europe, so are familiar with all the players, and know they're strengths and weaknesses.

Where as there are players in the big name south American teams who still play for SA clubs, so they will not be familiar with the players and play style of the european teams as much, which most of time is a big negative. Where as you can pretty much predict how south American teams play and what formations they stick to.

Also the euros is always far more exciting than the world cup. Compare the world cup in 2010, to the euros of 2008. No competition quality and entertainment wise. Euros is just a higher standard.

Take out teams like Brazil, Argentina, Uruguay and perhaps the Ivory coast and Japan at a stretch, and theyres lots of teams who qualify for the world cup that wouldn't have a chance at qualifying for a euros.

A prime example is Ireland, we very rarely qualify for the euros, and the times we have we pretty much fail miserably. But the times we've qualified for the world cup, we have done well for who we are. Sure Saudi Arabia was in our group in 2002. Says it all really.

Whether this will change with the new larger pool of teams for the future Euros remains to be seen.

Horror story here but I reset my LG GT540 and lost all my contacts. I'm with Meteor so I'm wondering if it's possible to retrieve contacts or is it a lost cause?

Maybe the tiredness caught up with them. All them play in Russia which restructured its league and they ended up playing 18 month seasons. Sickened Greece got through they are a terrible side to watch even with Brian Kerr on commentary.

I agree, Kerr has been one of the best things about this tournament.

FFS. I had Russia, Spain, Germany and France to top their groups at 20/1. I thought France would be the ones to mess that up....

Well that all depends on whether or not you appreciate the art of back-to-the-wall defending of a 1-0 lead, which I love to watch and i'm going to watch the full match again for the second time later :D

You're underestimating Greece big time, had a bunch of ref decisions go against them, unlucky to miss the penalty against a very weak Poland and had a perfectly fine goal disallowed against Czech. Should really have won the group on 7 points.

Admittedly they cheated a lot tonight but Russia would have done the same thing if they were winning.

I don't know who said that, but the fact that Denmark and Greece have won 2 out of the last 5 Euro's is proof enough that the Euro's are easier to win. The World Cup is always won by one of the best 3 teams (at that particular time) in the world.

The euro's is a far better tournament overall than the world cup. too many poor, dull games in the world cup due to poor african, south american and asian teams in it. This years euro's has been stellar like always.

Would absolutely love for denmark to beat germany, and portugal to beat the dutch, which means that the germans go out I fink. Pity it wont happen though.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 10,469 ✭✭✭✭GTR63

Hope Germany make it through to the quarters I want some good teams to make it. Amazed that Holland can still make it after being a disaster in the tournament so far.
Galway won not much you can say about it way too easy to score and we still give up way too many easy scores. At least we are in the All Ireland Quarter finals at least.

Ugh Ger Canning on commentary if this ends in a draw he will no doubt say the replay is next saturday in Tullamore.
Who is Van Der Van Persie?

Holland must watch tapes of Offaly to prepare their defense for matches, all over the shop to put it mildly. Then again the players higher up the pitch have done damn all on or off the ball either.

Pleased to see Germany and Portugal qualified.:)

Holland have been the worst team in the tournament plenty of talented players but more ego's and a rubbish back 4, Steklenburg saved them from a total pasting tonite. Portugal & Germany clearly deserved to go through.

Yeah, with their talent if you'd told me pre-tournament that Netherlands would finish pointless, I'd never have believed you.

Ronaldo has scored in 5 major international tournaments in a row, hard to believe that its true 04-12.
Just read something in a old issue of world soccer about a player who has played in 4 seperate decades (80's, 90's, 00's +10's) for his country. Anyone who can name him fair play. Has never played at a major international tournament but has played for big clubs.

And Ronaldo is only 27, still got 3 or 4 tournaments ahead of him.

As for the trivia question, i'm sure it has to be a goalkeeper, is it Rogerio Ceni?

They have so much more talent than us though. They embarrassed themselves at this tournament.
