    No plans at the moment. That said, a lot of my friends have left and the list of pro vs con of staying is pretty lop-sided. I don't wanna get into it but Doctors are treated a lot better outside of Ireland.

    What's your field, Jay?
    Ive meant to ask that i dunno how many times. :pac:

    I was actually thinking of Australia writing the last post :o I'd consider the US since I have family there, but each time I go there I like it less. Great for a holiday but I don't think I could set up shop there. Not exactly enthusiastic about the rampant advertising/consumerism or their education system. They do have a very high standard of living though.

    lol, you don't really get a field until further on, general surgery atm but I hope to go into GP or Psych.

    Is it true that gp gets paid more than any other doctor. I would love to settle in new york. Where the family is. All the hockey and nfl games I could go too. Also the lovey ladies they have over there

    America would be my first choice, always wanted to live there but it doesn't seem easy to get in and the jobs don't seem to be as readily available anymore either.

    I'm a fully qualified electrician and am working on an Engineering certificate so hopefully they will work in my favour if/when I move.

    I was in New York last year but I wouldn't fancy living there. Might be easier if you have family there though.

    No that's not true, especially since new contracts/caps have pretty much smashed the wages. Older consultants and specific surgeons get paid much more. Other surgeons though, wow, they don't get paid enough for the horrible job/hours they have to do. So basically you'll have to be old and with a family before you get paid bigger money. In your 40s, still taking exams lol. New doctors go into the realm of minimum wage, saved only by overtime, if the hospital decides to pay us. Wages are a lot higher in the States, training schemes better too. But money isn't the only thing when it comes to your job.

    NY does definitely just depend on yourself. I was on holiday there and I enjoyed the much quieter state than in Manhattan. Probably being Irish I didn't like the tall buildings and the manicured parks!! They have some magnificent places to eat and lots of things to do though (and lots of irish pubs) I can definitely see why people love it.

    Just checked and I'm eligible for a Canadian Skilled Work Visa..... If I had nearly €8,000 ready to transfer with me. At least I know I meet everything else. Need to start saving now!

    How does one even start to apply to get into America :confused:

    Reasons I want to live in America
    * Attitudes to alcohol
    * Respect for teachers
    * The government
    * Getting to watch wrestling live :pac:

    They seem to all require you to have a job waiting, or be a student. Anything else will likely be short term.

    Any PS3 owners here that can give me some advice?

    I've got a 40 GB PS3 that I've had since 2008 I think. Always taken good care of it. Anyway I was playing a new game yesterday and suddenly the console just went black. I had to turn it off and I tried the game again but while the menu came up, it wouldn't recognise the game. I tried another game, and even a CD and all I got was the menu screen. The system wasn't making any noises or anything like it normally does.

    I did some reading up and I think it may be that the bluray drive is not working any more.

    Anybody have experience of this? Dunno what to do.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 12,478 ✭✭✭✭gnfnrhead

    Sounds like what happened to mine. Think it was making a beeping noise before going back to the menu.

    If you've had it since 2008 your warrenty is well gone. Open it up and make sure nothing came loose, clear it of dust etc. If it still doesnt work, have a look and see how much it would cost to buy a new disc drive. It'll be cheaper than a new console and probably cheaper than sending it off to Sony for repairs.

    3D? Snacks?

    Usually costs that much for two. 10 each for tickets, booking fee for the ticket and 9e for the large popcorn two drink deal. I do like going but pretty expensive so don't do it often.

    My bank holiday entertainment is the Dublin Louth game. I'm from the west so I think it could be the start of the transition from culchie to Dub. I've been fighting it as much as I can but soon I'll be calling myself a Dub and wearing my PJs to McDonalds.

    I'm not a cinema goer but Cineworld on Parnell have unlimited viewing for €20 a month. Bring your own food and drink and save a fortune.
