My teacher said (who def knows his stuff) that if a comparison comes up, say the question on the DEB mock, "compare secondary activities in two european regions (non-irish)" you can do 10 srps for paris basin and 5 for mezz (or the other way around. 10 for mezz and 5 for paris basin). The comparisons DO NOT have to be 50% one region and 50% the other and you will be fine as long as you have the 15 srps.
Maybe you're saying this too, but what happens is if you said "Paris has a cool temperate oceanic climate which promotes the growth of crops such as grapes, but the Mezzogiorno's climate and Sirocco wind limit it to vines" - thats 2 + 2 marks. You'll see it on last year's marking scheme. But you wont get either mark if you cant contrast it with anything!

    English :
If Plath comes up , I'll be shuffling in my centre , if she doesnt at least I got some tips how to handle my 'depression' .. if you know what I mean ;)
Hamlet : It will be Hamlet / Role of women me thinks ?
80% sure one of the Q's will be on women
    Comparative: Definitely GVV & Genre

    Physics: God knows.
Hopefully heat & sound exp & Joules & Boyles maybe? so I heard anyways
Doppler effect , something on the electron with einstein explanation and photoelectric effect , something definitely will be on the light , maybe draw a diagram of the lenses , critical angle maybe , something to do with gravity will be on for sure etcetc

Geog: I regret doing geog now , could have done agr science and better off learning how to deal with cows and sheep -.-
    Such a long course..

Biome : characteristics of soil , human interference with soil , and HOPEFULLY animals adaptations to the biome.
Physical : I actually don't know? hate physical geog but heard that something on rivers , earthquakes , and DEFINITELY rocks ( rock cycle , and that question that was on the DEB mock , the human interaction with rocks ) will be on.
Regional: looking at the exam papers and talking to my teacher ..
-draw a map of either Irish or European region
    - Primary activities in either european or subcontinental ( might be even comparison)
    - Secondary act in Irish or subcontinental ( again , maybe comparison)
    - Tertiary act in all 3 diff regions ( again , maybe comparison)
    Elective:
    - don't think overpopulation will be on ;< which is the easiest of the elective ..
    - maybe migration
    - central place theory , and all the craic with the models and ****
I think they will give us while awkward questions this year as they are running out of questions .. the biome questions are getting more and more ****ed up every year so better pray.
and tbh .. LEARN THE WHOLE COURSE IF YE WANT AT LEAST A B .. cause they can throw anything at your face and you'll be surprised as never.

Biology: again .. learn the whole course and be familiar with everything .. they always try to fix as many subjects as possible .. although I'm not studying plants. **** that **** , worse of the all.
    but yeah
    - food
    - ecology **
    - genetics **
    - human reproduction
    - plants -.-
    - photosynthesis / respiration **
    - heart & blood *
    - exp on enzymes
basically everything .. I did 2 mocks this year.. in the first one I got 40% and a month later 60% .. so I hope I'll move up to B1 ;)
    THATS ALL HL BTW.

    OL Maths ..
    Paper 2 is a disaster.
but apparently as it's the first year of them giving us the profect paper it suppose to be easy .. god knows tho.

Good luck everyone! Don't stress cause it will affect your grades.
Try to relax .. if you know what I mean ;) gluck!

What are people learning for the biome q in geog?

Animal adaptations, factors influencing soil characteristics and human interference with biome?

    WHY DID I PICK GEOG????

Well my essays are usually broken up into say transport and tourism for tertiary, so i would talk about tourism in paris, then talk about mezz and say how it's similar or different. then talk about transport.

Oh, of course - that one up there would go under climate, same idea :)

I narrowed down my geography study. Opinions?

    PHYSICAL:
    -landform (waterfall and meanders/oxbow)
    -interactions with rock cycle
    -interactions with rivers
    -karst
    -plate tectonics
    -short/long effects of earthquakes

    REGIONAL:
    -cultural
-all of paris basin + mezzogiorno (in case they ask for a comparison)
    -primary and tertiary in brazil
-tertiary in bmw + gda (in case of comparison)
    -eu expansion

    HUMAN:
    -historical and rural settlements
    -overpopulation, changing migration, donor/receiver
    -central place theory
-urban problems (dublin) (pollution an traffic congestion)

    BIOME:
-adaptions (putting emphasis on this one)
-and will try and cover characteristics and human interactions of/with biomes.

Anything else I'm missing? I figure I'm well covered for physical, should be alright for human and regional. Regional is really tough to learn though.

Whats is the cultural? Like for what country?

They let you decide what region you study for cultural. I studied Brazil (European settlers/Portuguese, African Slaves and the Native Yanomani).

They could ask for a specific region for culture.

Ugh, I dunno lol, so many possiblities.

What year have they asked a specific region? I've never heard of that before and we only did one region.

For all ye Business heads out there, some predictions from moi. Got an A1 in the Pre, had better get it again- i'm doing the whole course but what i'd suggest:

    Q.2- UNIT 6
    • Economics Variables
    • Differences between Public/Private Ltd. Company
    • Social Responsibilities of Shareholders
    • Categories of Industry

    Q.3- UNIT 7
    • Significance of EU Expansion
    • EU Directives/Regulations
    • European Institutions
    • European Policies (CAP/ Social Charter)

    Q.5- UNIT 4
    • Change Management (TQM/Empowement)
    • HRM- Functions of a HR Manager
    • RATIO ANALYSIS
    • Benefits / Limitations of Ratio Analysis
    • Possibly benefits of preparing P&L / Balance Sheet

    Q.7- UNIT 5
    • Business Plans & their importance
    • Reasons/Implications of Expansion
    • Evaluate Debt/Equity Capital as sources of finance for Expansion

when you talk about social responsibly of shareholders do you mean of the business towards its shareholders? :)

That's a good idea. What poets are you doing, anyway?
I think I should be alright with Plath, Heaney, Kinsella and Kavanagh or Rich. Right? RIGHT?!?

You should be more than alright.

My plan is to study Heaney and Plath really in depth, learn a sample essay, read poems, learn quotes etc. Then just learn sample essays for Kinsella, Rich/Kavanagh.

Total guess work my friend ^ but that seems to be what might make an appearance, stuff like TQM hasn't been up in a couple of years! My Teacher's one of the best ones EVER without doubt and that's what she's been saying anyway!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 789 ✭✭✭FaoiSin

Yup I reckon Heaney is definitely gonna be up. Can never be too sure though.

My English teacher told us that at a conference he was told that they just pick the poets out of a hat so it's dangerous to make predictions. He may just have been saying that to make us study all of the poets, but it seems logical that they should do that so I'm just going to study all the poets.

But an Irish poet and a woman has always come up. You think that's just a coincidence? Hopefully not.

Well of course, they may pick poets out of the hat and then change it so that there's an irish poet and a female poet, but on the other hand there's usually a fairly good balance between male and female and irish and non-irish poets on the course so a coincidence is plausible, either way, I reckon there will be at least 2 wild cards out of 4
