    A few different ones:

Chemistry - ammonium sulfate and KMnO4 or water of crystallisation
Ethanal is also likely cause it's the last year any students might have actually done the experiment
    Rates of reaction for q3
I'd expect a full water question
    Substitution reactions in organic

Irish - my teacher reckons oisin I dtir na nog or spailpin fanach, but not both together

English - id say Plath will come up but it might be an awkward style question so my everyone answers on her, Larkin, Heaney and kinsella.
Hopefully deception for Hamlet or the character of hamlet! Women is likely though
    Gvv and LG

Home ec - I disagree about fish, it got a full question in 2010 so I reckon it might only be a short question. Carbohydrates are due up possibly with fibre and vitamin b for q1.
Household technology is a maybe, divorce, microbiology and additives :)

Oh and pass maths watch out fr the empirical rule, been a lot of emphasis on it at conferences.
Ok so Oisin is basically bealoidis right? Spailpin is probably the four part question i'd reckon!

Hope to god gvv and larkin are up :D

Home ec I'm doing both juuuust to be sure!

And what the hell is the empirical rule again? :pac:

For history hl would you be safe enough to learn:
    Dictatorship and democracy:
    Hitler and Nazi state
    Strengths of Mussolini
    British post war economy
    Anglo American pop culture
And maybe stalins internal policy?(since that's basically the case study?)

    Pursuit of sovereignty:
    Treaty negotiations
    Eucharistic congress
    Belfast
And maybe one other ( perhaps someone could recommend a good one?)

    Northern Ireland:
    Coleraine
    Welfare state
Fall of stormont and power sharing
    Sunningdale
I want to leave out apprentice boys cause my essay for that is weak but is it risky not to at least know all the case studies?

And for the document It's most likely India right?

I feel fairly prepared (despite my username, that was from the mocks :P) I just need to know what to focus on at this stage and some reassurance that I'm not wasting my time with those essays would be much appreciated :)

I don't think the treaty negotiations will be on, simply because they're a case study for next year, but I could be wrong.

Yeah my teacher is really emphasising the Eucharistic congress and not so much the treaty but as it's my least favourite section I'm trying to be prepared for the case studies and just hope at least one comes up as a straight forward question

yeah bealoidis is about it id say :)

amm the empirical rule - i just learned it yesterday! - it's that thing where you're given the mean and the standard deviation. Adding and subtracting the standard deviation to the mean once gives you the range of numbers that 68% of the data is in.
Do it twice and you get 95%, 3 times and you get 99.7% and that's it! :D

My teacher said to learn how treaty caused the civil war rather than the negotiations.

Also, nq12, where can I get some info for empirical rule? the book is pretty **** for it, and I don't really understand it.

ALso, what are the case studies in the european book in history?

Apart from propaganda, what else could they ask on nuremberg rallies?

so was lookin through the old geo papers, and saw this one:
"Examine, with refernce to an example you have studied, the development of one economic core region in Europe."

Might sound stupid, but just for clarification, Dublin CAN be used?
    :o

Yeah, it should be accepted, but now, it would be something like "one European region (non Irish)"

omg  just realised that Loyalty/Betrayal has NEVER been asked in Hamlet! That's kinda the whole central theme of the play is it not? Without Loyalty and Betrayal nothing would have happened in the play! I'm so excited now, but it probably won't come up. Don't like Deception at all, I have an answer I did for it in the mock (based it on Appearance Vs. Reality essay) and it only got 41/60. I'm assuming when you're asked Deception you can talk about Appearance Vs. Reality like? Or can you :(

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 8,572 ✭✭✭Canard

Deception is appearance vs reality PF. :P

I'd LOVE loyalty and betrayal, I got an A1 in my answer on it so I know what to say and point out and ugh <3

Appearance v reality is pretty much deception. Betrayal is kind of similar, no?

Patchy~ you know the way you got an A1, would it be ok to discuss how the individual characters have played a part in betraying or being loyal in the play? I was thinking of talking about how Claudius/Gertrude/Polonius and Rosencrantz and Guildenstern have betrayed people, friends and family in the play, and then discussing how the avenging sons are driven to avenge out of loyalty and also how Horatio is unwaveringly loyal to Hamlet throughout the play? :P

They can't really ask much else besides the propaganda or else a straight up question on them alone, which would be a tough enough question to get a full answer on.. but in the Nazi state/internal policy you can get a good paragraph in about them, but again that question is unlikely since it came up last year..

I tried to explain it in a reply just there but ive probably explained it wrong...im sure there's a site that will explain it better but i agree about the book, it's terrible

the european case studies (dictatorship and democracy i presume) are the nuremberg rallies, the show trials and the jarrow march :) the jarrow march is very short and the others are quite interesting, so not too bad to learn.

    Death
    Power, authority & kingship
They're the only other two I've prepared I think!

I narrowed down my geography study. Opinions?

    PHYSICAL:
    -landform (waterfall and meanders/oxbow)
    -interactions with rock cycle
    -interactions with rivers
    -karst
    -plate tectonics
    -short/long effects of earthquakes

    REGIONAL:
    -cultural
-all of paris basin + mezzogiorno (in case they ask for a comparison)
    -primary and tertiary in brazil
-tertiary in bmw + gda (in case of comparison)
    -eu expansion

    HUMAN:
    -historical and rural settlements
    -overpopulation, changing migration, donor/receiver
    -central place theory
-urban problems (dublin) (pollution an traffic congestion)

    BIOME:
-adaptions (putting emphasis on this one)
-and will try and cover characteristics and human interactions of/with biomes.

Anything else I'm missing? I figure I'm well covered for physical, should be alright for human and regional. Regional is really tough to learn though.

Looks grand to me! Reeaallly well covered for Physical! I have a question with the Mezz/Paris Basin. I know PB well, and if I learnt 6 points on Mezz thatd be ok in case of a comparison right?

My teacher said (who def knows his stuff) that if a comparison comes up, say the question on the DEB mock, "compare secondary activities in two european regions (non-irish)" you can do 10 srps for paris basin and 5 for mezz (or the other way around. 10 for mezz and 5 for paris basin). The comparisons DO NOT have to be 50% one region and 50% the other and you will be fine as long as you have the 15 srps.

That's been asked twice in the last 16 years (1996 and 2005) they'd hardly ask it again!

Both teachers in my school told this to us:
there's some guy around monaghan who predicts hamlet every year and so far has gotten it right every year. This year he predicted "popularity".
That's a question I'm gonna know especially well.

EU expansion came up last year I think? Wouldn't be very likely to come up again would it?

Hard to say. You see, a lot of questions repeat. For example, river and rock cycle interactions. I'm doing it because it's pretty simple, and just to be safe. :)
