Is it my imagination or is the injury rate at Munster far far higher than at other teams like Leinster or Ulster. It doesn't seem to be just down to the age of the players and miles on the clock as many of our young guys are picking up serious injuries.

Probably why the conditioning coach got the boot...

    Scrum clinics in Munster.

Munster Rugby Scrum Coach, Paul McCarthy recently conducted an Age Grade Scrum Clinic in CIT, Cork.
The session was the last in the series and was carried out in conjunction with a similar clinic in Limerick. The emphasis was on the 'Full Scrum' and the aim was to benefit the players leading into the Summer Programme.
Over the previous months the players have developed their individual techniques to scrummaging and with the co-ordination of Paul McCarthy, James Hickey and Darragh Hurley the sessions have been invaluable for their development.

There was a few of these held recently, hopefully some attacking/backsplay workshops are held early next season in 3 or 4 venues throughout the province next season

Also, Munster have confirmed their pre-season fixtures:
Munster will take on Bristol RFC in Musgrave Park on Friday, 17th August in their first home game of the season.

This follows a match against London Irish which will also be hosted in Musgrave Park on Friday 24th, August and could see scrum half Tomas O’Leary returning to Munster to be pitted against his old team mates.

I think Munster consider the pre season games as small games and so suitable for the small stadium.

Is that Nagle in the white, he's filled out a bit if so.

I think since they moved an extra Rabo game to Thomond they now play the two pre-season friendlies in Musgrave.

Ah do you poor dears in Limerick not get enough of the games as is ;)

That said considering the awful attendances in Cork the past few years I'd hardly complain if they moved more games to Thomond

I don't mind the games being in Cork, it gets few enough games but really think it's time a game was brought to Waterford. We've been pro for 15 or more years now, it's time to get out of the heartlands.

Well im too lazy to go to cork for a pre season game so.... at least 1 pre season game should be in limerick

The real place one of these games should be is waterford. Waterpark are doing serious work underage and the club will be back senior in a few years time
The Munster branch need to be doing serious work to increase the profile of rugby in the south east of the province and a full munster game would help with that

There was a preseason game in Limerick last year IIRC.

Clonmel would be another great venue

It's absolutely crazy the way that area has been overlooked.

Really annoys me when they play A games in Thomond when they could be good for drawing crowds elsewhere in Munster.

I couldn't believe the facilities in Clonmel when they played there. They have a newly built covered stand that seats about 1,000 , and they're a junior club as well. I've seen far,far worse set ups in AIL 1 clubs.

Ya used to love playing there with the new stand, seats are right good too

Best facilities of any club in munster IMO.
3 full pitches,2 of which are very good pitches, a large training area. stand that seats about 400
decent enough gym. loads of dressing rooms. bar, theres a couple of all weather pitches that they rent out and could use if they needed to

Shame the club isnt doing as well as it potentially could. Clonmel is a big town with lots of very good footballers, soccer and gaelic, and clonmel rfc arent reaching the potential they could

Just checked, yeah, we played LI their last season, I thought both games were in Cork.

Not many A games have been played in TP, last year we played Connacht there but that could be because it suited Connacht, no point in bringing them across the province when TP is so close to them. In general the A games are usually spread around the province, Nenagh and Tralee hosted B&I cup games this season.

Looks like 5 Limerick based players and 2 of them from the one family, 2 of the set of the Ryan triplets.

Nail on head, especially when you compare them to Nenagh and more recently Cashel

Anyone know if the Sweetnam that is on that panel is the Cork hurler?? I'm assuming it is, how many talented young sportsmen called Darren Sweetnam can there be...?

Wonder what sport he's best at.

It is the cork hurler. decent rugby player, plays 10/12/15. interesting that he's named in the squad as if cork do well in the hurling he might be fairly busy until mid august/september

We'll just have to hope that he's not :p

He looks like a class hurler though, tremendous athlete for his age (which isn't surprising if he's playing rugby) and very skilful too.

I see the FAI have stepped in a blocked another soccer event being held in Thomond Park . Is it a case of if we can't have it no one else can ?

It would be a nice bit of revenue to offset last years deficit on the stadium

A four team pre season tournament involving Celtic ,Chelsea , Limerick and another team , is the info I am getting. Just came up in conversation today. Don't have any other details .

    From the Limerick Leader
LIMERICK soccer fans look set to miss out on the chance to see Chelsea and Celtic play in Thomond Park after the Football Association of Ireland refused to sanction a lucrative pre-season tournament in the stadium.

Thomond Park had lined up the Champions League finalists and Scottish Premier League champions plus two other “leading European teams” for a tournament to take place on the August Bank Holiday weekend

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 13,264 ✭✭✭✭Fireball07

I think it's ****ing stupid. Stopped the Barcelona friendly before and now this. It'd be good for Limerick to have big teams playing here...Thomond Park is a great venue.

Just because it clashes with the Dublin Super Cup  what a load of crap.

Surely the more tournaments that we can host in Ireland, the better?

That's pretty bad. Whatever our complaints are against the IRFU at least they're not as bad as the FAI!
