How long is Jones' contract for? If its up anytime soon you have to worry about him getting any kind of extension with that injury record.

I know weve confirmation ryan murphy has joined the academy through the link on that 7s team, shouldnt the release about everyone joining the academy be released soon enough, as in the next week or two??

You never know with Munster, the code of omerta is strong with them.

Think Holland is decent enough tbh, any other names stand out?

That's all our full-backs! Unless Scanlon is going to come good or else we have to convert LOD/Zebo/Earls full-time.

LOD prefers fullback, afaik. If we need to bring someone in then bring someone in.

I think Scanlon is too short to make it but I've been wrong before.

you never know, a different club and his injuries could clear up, worked for Wilkinson.

He's on a full time contract next season so hopefully he'll get the chance to prove himself.

He should do as the Murphy and Jones will miss the pre-season. I hope he comes good but just can't see him making it to the top level.

It should be released soon. If Murphy is in the academy, hes probably not the only one.

He scores a try in this match. Doesn't look too tall. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=muotDipdILs

I brought this up the last time Jones shipped a major injury but does anyone think the fact he was fast tracked into the starting team when he moved to Munster has had any effect on the number of injuries he has shipped? I would think that moving a player from a plan of slow introduction to first team physicality and probably a higher focus on physical development to suddenly engaging in consistent first team intensity surely must increase the risk of injury.

Jones wasn't first choice when he got his first major injury (neck injury against Connacht in the ML). He hadn't got into HEC squads beforehand.

Well if LOD prefers it and is better there, then great. From what I've seen, he's very good under the high ball, seems pretty intelligent and isn't scared to attack the line at pace. It's hard to know how good he is defensively, positioning-wise and stuff, but I always thought he looked more solid than Zebo.

I keep trying to stop myself hyping up LOD, but he's looked really good every time I've seen him. I'm getting slightly worried tbh, because I think if he was as good as I think he is, he'd have got more chances this year. Hopefully that's just paranoia and he does turn out to be a very good player.

I don't know the ins and outs of his development, but he was 22 when he arrived at Munster. I don't think anything about his career has been fast-tracked tbh, but if that is what's behind all these injuries, I'm afraid that ship has sailed for him now.

He had one match for Leinster before moving and then in the September of his move he played all of the first four games that month. That's a considerable step up and could be seen as being thrown into the deep end. He then played two more before that season ending injury. The start of the next season he was again thrown in to start the first three games of the season before being forced off again with a lengthy injury. It could be just pure misfortune but I'm sure there is a reason why players are generally introduced slowly, especially those with smaller frames.

I doubt it tbh, but you never know.

He did his neck in a collision with O'Connor, his knee when his leg turned on a divot in Thomond and his ankle landing awkwardly. Hard to see how they could be avoided.

That being said, i'm not sure it is just bad luck, can it be? Maybe his body has an untreated, inherent weakness that is causing undue strain elsewhere. Iirc, (this could be an urban myth) d'Arcy had a run of hamstring injuries which cleared up when he got a new car with a different seat posture.

He's another guy who picked up a lot of niggles this season, I wouldn't be too quick to rush him. Ronan O'Mahoney looks to be an alright prospect, think he also covers fullback.

It was the around the last week of may last year but as we're totally finished up this season it could be earlier
Murphy isnt the only one from what ive heard. Jack oDonoghue from waterpark is the other name ive heard to be joining the academy

I've certainly heard it before that the more upright driving position of a Jeep/SUV is better for your back than a sports car (general rule being that your knees should not be above your waist - I'm no expert though), and that can also have a knock on effect re hamstrings.

Not sure if clubs have any rules on the matter - in the Premiership while you still see some players in the sports cars, a lot do have SUVs. For Leinster I've seen BOD in his Lexus Jeep, Kearney in an Audi jeep and SOB in a Kia jeep, but no idea if that's just coincidence that the only 3 I've seen have similar cars. I think I saw a picture of Healy in some class of jeep too.

I'd love to see Healy or SOB try and fit in a sports car...

At full back? Does he have the hands. As, 'By The Grace his Da' he controls everything at Munster, he might be worth a shot.

Collision and torsion injuries are difficult to prevent. Their are ways to strengthen areas of potential weakness but it takes time.

This is absolutely true. We bought my wife a Scenic a few years ago and my bad back problem disappeared entirely because of it's seat. It was far more comfortable than the seats in any car I've been in. I drove it a lot rather than my own because of the seat. It was almost like sitting on a dining room chair. Mainly a Sh1te car apart. We only kept it for 18 months and got her a C Max which had similar but not as good seats. We then changed it for the latest one and the seats look the same but it's like sitting on concrete. Fortunately I only have to fill the washer reservoir on it. I hate it. I prefer to wallow in comfort in my car than be tortured in hers.

If O'Donogue makes it that would probably make him the first Waterford player in about 20 years or so to get anywhere near Munster.

Damian Duff had to get rid of whatever type of Mercedes sports car he was driving while he was at Chelsea as it was found to be causing his persistent hamstring injuries.

Think there has been a few in the academy, Murray Kinsella I'm sure was.

Yes, you're right. Still no senior player in that period though.

What options do Munster have at scrum half next year besides Murray and Stringer?

Don't rate Williams at all, not confident of him even at rabo level

Sheridan is only a youngster and haven't seen enough to comment tbh!

saw this morning in one of the papers that Leamy has to see a specialist later this week to decide whether he would retire or not.

I hope it doesn't come to that.

Even if he gets a reprieve, his body is clearly struggling and has been for years. We can't really expect to include him on our medium term plans.

Is it my imagination or is the injury rate at Munster far far higher than at other teams like Leinster or Ulster. It doesn't seem to be just down to the age of the players and miles on the clock as many of our young guys are picking up serious injuries.
