It's not 2008 anymore. Leamy hasn't been fully fit, nor in form, for quite some time.

True...but he was good this year in a few HC games when he came off the bench. He wasn't completely fit but he still brought a huge intensity, he was at a level that none of our other back row players can bring at the moment.

Leamy wasn't exactly playing that bad before his injury to be fair

On The very few occasions that Leamy managed to play 6 over the past few year she showed up well. He was never an 8 though.

As for as absolute first choice goes, can you really drop Coughlan?? I know we have to build for the future but Coughlan is consistently one of the best players on the pitch when he plays. If Leamy comes back, I'd make him first choice, otherwise I'd put Ronan at 7, I suppose.

That said, I wouldn't mind seeing a good bit of rotation. Give players like LOD, Hanrahan, Nagle, Foley, Kilcoyne, Archer, etc. gametime but not just in matches where we're playing our 2nd team basically. Give them games with the experienced players in relatively big games. And obviously Butler and DOC2 aswell.

Say have your full-strength team out, but put LOD on one wing, with Howlett on the other. And put Kilcoyne in an otherwise first-choice front row. Maybe Hanrahan at 12, beside Laulala. Give them a chance to learn from the experienced players.

And he shouldn't be afraid to drop players either, that's most important. When everyone is fit, we do have a good amount of options. If competition for places is healthy, it improves form all-round.

I suppose you could have Coughlan in there too but he is getting old that's just the way I was seeing it. I agree with earlier posters that we need a good hard running bruiser of a back row (Henry Tuailagi style :D), someone like Nick Williams but better.

I don't think TOD or Ronan are Heineken cup winning quality unfortunately. Fine players don't get me wrong but I think be need a bit more tbh.

Yeah LOD and Hanrahan need to be played a lot more at league level. Hanrahan at 12 might need to bulk up for European level I think. Maybe he would be a good option for a future 10? He has been playing there quite a bit for Bohs. Yeah Kilcoyne looks like he'll be pushing for a HCup starting spot in the next year or so.

Nagle is a great player, I was surprised last season that he didnt get more game time seeing as he was man of the match in a couple of games.

I'm liking the look of having a good few Bohs players in the Munster team for once :D.

Would be rare that someone in the squad doesn't get on at some point. Would be nice if it was against Ireland.

Nice one. Does anyone know how many of those players are getting picks because they are academy/subacademy and how many are getting picked because they impressed at munster 7s and all ireland club 7s

    From reading the link
Ronan O'Mahony, Brian Hayes and Ryan Murphy(joined to start the academy for next season) are academy
Johnny Holland and Darren Moroney are sub academy and the rest are AIL players

Maybe I didn't make my point properly, but did they get picked because they were in the system or because they went to Munster 7s with their club and impressed.

I presume they were picked because of their performances in the club 7s competition but you never know

I guess thats confirmation that Murphy has joined the academy for next season

Johne Murphy who also sustained an ankle injury in that game will be out of action for three months as will Damien Varley who picked up an ankle injury in the RaboDirect PRO12 clash with Ulster May 5th.

    http://www.munsterrugby.ie/news/10493.php

    Jones - 4 months
    Murphy - 3 months
    Varley - 3 months

    This is completely ridiculous!!

Still that leads us to mid September. Not the worst thing. It does raise questions about his injury proneness.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 14,595 ✭✭✭✭CIARAN_BOYLE

You know I was hoping that with a good off seasonand a full preseason that Munster would be able to draw a lint under this injury crisis and move on but if its dragging onto next season.

More like double that. Wallace and howlett are two years nearly.

This is actually good news by recent standards.
Murphy and Varley won't miss any games and Jones will only miss a couple.

    Good to see they've a 7's squad.

I've seen Johnny Holland a few times and been impressed. Could be an academy contender too.

3 serious injuries in 3 years

Hope he isn't made of glass and he's just unlucky

Like him and really hopes he gets back to where he once was but Munster must be asking themselves what's the story with him at this point. I think he has one year left on his deal. If he ships another injury after this one, surely they'll need to review the contract and look at restructuring things if they re-sign.

Holland is good but not sure he's acad standard.
I know weve confirmation ryan murphy has joined the academy through the link on that 7s team, shouldnt the release about everyone joining the academy be released soon enough, as in the next week or two??

I think so. I hate to say it but Munster have to make other plans and those plans shouldn't be based around Jones, Murphy or Hurley.

I'd love to see Jones come good but we just can't risk it.

That's all our full-backs! Unless Scanlon is going to come good or else we have to convert LOD/Zebo/Earls full-time.
