The more you read about this rangers debacle the more you think this shower should be put out of business for good. Rangers FC is fundamentally rotten to the core.

Scottish football needs rid of Rangers as they currently exist. They should be wound up. A new club could be started instead that can tap into some of the support that the old rotten Rangers had. The new Rangers could start with a blank sheet, with no sectarian baggage and corrupt financial practices.
You can kill the man but not the idea. ;)

Exactly the new rangers will be just as bigoted as the old rangers.

The same old rambling? Heard it all before. I don't think too many Rangers fans even entertainment the drivel any more.

That's rich, aren't there several Celtic fans who see support for the IRA as 'part of it's Irish heritage and traditions' ?

As for some of the comments here: If you hate us so much, **** off to the Celtic thread.
    Simple, really.

    We're 'rotten, bigoted, sectarian' ?
Fine, don't come in here if it bothers you so much.

Your use of quotation marks there would suggest you are directly quoting someone, can you reveal who these several Celtic fans are that support an organisation that no longer exists

I didnt really want this thread to go down this route - but are you seriously asking that question?
The Boys of the Old Brigade and Roll of Honour are fairly standard fixtures on the songsheet, home and away.

I don't particularly care what they sing tbh - but arent these songs in relation to that defunct organisation you speak of?

These are "quotation" marks, the use of 'these marks' is to ascribe something to a person/place/thing. Context is important as is personal style preferences some people never use " " some never use ' '. Formal style guides suggest ' ' should be used for ascribing meaning, concepts, glossary explanations, etc.

No one said it was weird, it was merely asked as to how it came about, see the basic difference been that Holland have a league that is signiificanly higher in quality and standard that the glorified pub league that is the LOI ;) We really should set you up a little thread of your own where you can randomly pop in and slate all those who support teams outside their country of birth and where you can shine up that chip on your shoulder, build a bridge man

No The boys of the old brigade is about the 1916 freedom fighters and Roll of Honour is about the hunger strikers, the first one has absolutely no connection to the IRA as they wer known in the last 3o years and the second one is about 10 young men that were basically allowed to die by the British government, the song is not as such a song glorifying their political or terrorist activities but more a song of outrage of how the 10 were allowed to die in some sort of effort to save face.

And even if we were to accept that they were songs glorifying the PIRA how does the fact that some fans sing them establish the theory that Celltic fans see supporting the IRA as part of Irish tradition?? Why do Rangers fans sing The Billy Boys and what traditions are they upholding by doing so??

The Hunger Strikers, who were all affiliated to the IRA or INLA ?
The same song that mentions to keep up the fight ?

    Aye, pull the other one.

The quotation marks weren't aimed at anyone in particular.
It was more meant as a way to show that that argument (The songs are supposedly traditional and part of the Irish heritage) has been used in the past.

    I'm Belgian btw.

    Why do you bother?

You come on this thread, snipe, refuse to debate and then run away.

Do you post similar such musings as this one on EPL threads?

Chip? He has a potato field on his shoulder... sure his Shels buddies are renowned for singing The Famine Song themselves.

The same Hunger Strikers who were also elected members of both the British and Irish parliaments?

So you know a fair bit about oppression, giving and receiving.

Surely you can fathom an Irish perspective even though you clearly know very little about Irish History

    Firstly.
You asked the question, let's drop the condescending tone ok?
I've already stated that i don't have an issue with the songs, on many occasions.

Yes, Boys of the Old Brigade references 1916. However, and you're an intelligent guy, do you really believe that everyone makes that distinction?
It's similar to songs that Rangers fans sing about the Ulster Volunteers Force, i have no doubt in my mind that there are large elements who just hear the "UVF" and instantly equate it with the modern day version.

You know it, and I know it.

Same goes for Roll of Honour.
Personally, i have great respect for those men who died for their beliefs, for their cause and in the hope that they could make things better for those around them, and nothing but hatred for Thatcher's government.
However, each and every one of those men was either a member of the PIRA, or the INLA no?
It may be Irish History and Tradition - it doesnt mean everyone is going to welcome it.

Not in the slightest. Are you denying that some of them were members of British parliament and the Dáil?

Apologies for getting your nationality wrong btw.

Oh yeah, as for The Billy Boys.

Must be a long time since you were at a Rangers match.
